for those that know me and what I do skip a few lines lol
for those who have no clue who I am or what I do read on. I own V1rtualdesires were a company that makes 3D toon content, we have a paysite, sponsor program and a few other projects in the works for thsi coming year, Now our market is not as large as say our 'real' counterparts are so i'm always looking to reinvent the wheel so to speak, the succesfull ways of promotion work for us just as they would work for say a teen niche but I always want to go two steps further. (ok so here the deal) I'm sure almost everyone is familar with PHPNuke, What i've done is taken a nuke script and tried to create the all in one type site, this site HERE brings the contents of a link list, hub, tgp, freesite, blogs and a forum all into one site. now i've looked all over and have not found anyone else doign this sort of thing in any type of niche, toon or real, is there a reason for this? Is it an unwritten rule to keep all the feeder type site seperate? or did i just happen to stumble onto a good idea here? I'm looking for feedback, sugs, and anythign else helpfull in what direction if any I should do with this lil side project. So far I threw about 10k of traffic to it in the last 30 days (about 4.5k has come through so far) and that generated a total of 6 sales from the various banners and links aroudn the site, I think this type of site could generate a lot of return surfers and sales but without proper feedback and knowing WHY others are not doing this I am not sure if my results are just a fluke. So I ask you all tear it apart, and let me know what you think. Thanks -Loki- |
interesting....
gonna examine this... |
sounds good Nick lemme know what you coem up with, if you need anymore info on the ins and out behind the concept jsut lemme know
|
Loki, I'm doing a similar thing with Purve ... i'm currently filling the link list and getting the forums started, we already have a webring and I'll eventually do a toplist. My thinking is the same as yours - all those traffic sources feed each other, and the more cool shit you have on your site the more chance of repeat customers - something we've NEVER cared about in porn until we realized all the newbie surfers ran out LOL
Its not something common in the adult industry, but mainstream have been doing this since they started. They call it a 'portal' ;-) Why doesn't the adult industry do it? Because most adult webmasters are stupid & can't see past their dick. ;-) If you want to earn extra money for beer on the weekends, definately follow the masses. If you want to earn a living, keep thinking outside the box ... |
I'm not sure what it is..but I want one :)
|
Thats just what i was thinking, I knew about portals for quite some time even built a few back in the day for some mainstream clients,
I was just amazed that more ppl are not doing this in adult yet. Now my only remaining question would be, are there any downfalls to doing it this way with one site as opposed to the traditional way of having many sites containing the same types of content? -Loki- |
I've had the idea from hell on what to do with this...
I think ;-))) |
Loki, obviously there's search engine benefits to having more sites with the content spread across the sites ... but, check out how much SE traffic portals get, and the PR of the front and sub pages / backward links etc.
You just need to do your main site really really well ... get heaps of incoming links, update it regularly so the spiders see new content etc. revolve everything you do around the 1 site - link all of your other sites to it etc. Its a slightly different mentality to building 100's of feeder sites - it needs to be BETTER ... but no reason why you can't do both! |
another point loki, a 'portal' is kinda just a big branding exercise, so pull in EVERY resource you can think of for branding your central site.
eg: http://www.purve.com/store.html I've never sold ANY cafe press items, probably rarely will ... but fuck the thumbs look professional and make my site look like it has an awesome store!!! LOL your portal can have as many sub categories and sub domains as you can find content to fill it ... |

SE's apart it would make a great exit landing space for alledged garbage traffic. :) |

>>SE's apart it would make a great exit landing space for alledged garbage traffic. good point! so if anyone needs a landing page for some garbage traffic ... http://www.purve.com :agrin: |

Currently I'm pushing viewers to our tgp, our paysite, our freesites and our avs sites, as well as gatherign as many sponsors that fit our niche as i can find. At firt I wanted to build the biggest 3D Adult portal and then route the traffic where I wanted it to go, but then after the end of the first day I noticed I had made a sale from the portal itself, then my whole idea of the site changed. what i'm thinking now while this market style is still pretty much untapped is how benificial might other niches be in this format? Props on your store, mine got shutdown by those bastards cuz my stuff was concidered a violation of their tos lol -Loki- |

Didn't Robin Nixon do that back in '99 ?

the audience on your 3d sites really care about quality and what the content is like, they care about how you made it etc - plus its rare. that audience wants to chat on boards and do all that stuff that revolves around your niche. someone looking for chicks with big tits is probably not going to care about the community, they just want to get to the tits. but if you built it right, any niche could work ... a portal is basically just a big collection of relevant content & sites gathered into 1 location to make it easy for the surfer to find. so no reason why it can't work across all niches ... we ordered some stuff from our redhotgreetings store recently, just to see what the quality was like as i've heard lots of bad things. i ordered a thong, a pack of postcards and the metal lunch box. the thong printing sucked, you could do it at home yourself cheaper and better, the postcards were above average, but the metal lunchbox was AWESOME. definately recommend for using as prizes ... |
Heres a lil update, Started putting together a Coed (Teen) Portal Tell me what ya think http://www.nakedcoeds.net I'll unlock the forums so you can see the movies & Galleries.
Also anyone who wants to do something like this I will gladly pass along the BBCode hack that allows you to embed the webpages & media into threads on the forum. -Loki- |
Loki, I love this idea... I've spent a couple of thousand putting together a hosted affiliate traffic tool like that aimed at celebritybling affiliates.. which was due to be ready on Nov 1st.. Dec 1st... Jan 1st..
Not as full on as your site though.. not sure i would want to give affiliates admin access to phpnuke. Using GEOip, browser language and incoming referer queries to filter the traffic is a big part of my angle on it too. |

Thanks for the props on the site, It is coming along nice and fast, The cool thing is since this is my 2nd one I've gotten a system down so i can launch it soon. Right now the forum is ready to roll, 35 galleries, 18 movie clips and the rules are up as well. The main section of the site is started with I think 19 site spotlights and all the banners are in place (minus 3 sponsors i need to finish setting up today) All in all This should launch Monday :) -Loki- |
