Watching the confirmation hearings of Bush pick for AG and just announced that obscenity is one of the areas he is going to focus on.

Discuss.

Nickatilynx 01-06-2005 11:41 AM

Fucking Excellent!!!

I have said this before....

Fuck being an AG...if I was an ambitious local DA...

I would pick on a few gfyers in my area , raid their homes , grab their computers and start prosectuing them for obscenity.

Why?

1.) By "Community Standards" most would find it hard to establish their sites were not obscene.

2.) Most could not afford decent legal representation..

Slam dunk a few cases , say 6.

Watch other GFYers earning 500-1500 a mth realise its not worth the risk. And quit.

Get local and maybe national headlines.

Gain votes.

Get solicitations for standing for higher office.

:)

but then maybe I'd just be an evil DA :)

It will be funny seeing people say how they miss Ashcroft!

The "community standards" stuff is complicated. A well known Utah case showed a good way for people to defend themselves.

The stuff that bugs me is that if they TRULY wanted to come up with a solution, even one that could potentially be used internationally, they could.

Nickatilynx 01-06-2005 12:39 PM

internationally?

expand?

sarettah 01-06-2005 01:25 PM

Well, I bet Bush could be convinced to invade over all the countries with WMDs (Websites of Massive Decadence).

TheEnforcer 01-06-2005 01:30 PM

Now, this is something that the USA could act on it's own to use and could potentially be expanded through negotiation and treaties with other countries. While that admittedly would be a very long process if it were attempted to do internationally the USA could easily get the ball rolling. This way the USA has a way to effectively deal with it in our country before trying to bring others on board. It's NOT a perfect soltuion but one that could be built to include many countries and could eventually make it easier

Remember ICRA? Every computer built has the capacity to recognize tags and block certain sites and it would be VERY easy to build a system requiring that website operators, no matter whether they be mainstream sites or adult orientated, be required to have a content rating that would allow the screening out of their sites based on sex, violence, language, and other factors. Sort of a V-chip for computers. I don't petend that the ratings would be very easy to agree on, but it could be done. No one here wants anyone who isn't an adult to be looking at their site. It's a waste of bandwidth. It also protects website operators from the censorship that many in the government and in the country would like to put in place. There would be penalites for not registering your site(s) and a review board to ensure people aren't doing stuff like registering nudebeachbabes.com and saying it contains no nudity., etc. It also places a burden on parents to actually take the initiave in monitoring their kids web use while maintaining adults ability to enjoy certain material on the net that the courts have determined they have a right to enjoy.

That's the basics but you get the gist of it. It places burdens on both camps while protecting the concerns of both as well. Admittedly there is a whole lot of foreign sites out there that bring up seperate issues that we can talk about but for now you get the gist of my idea.

Hmmmm ... not to rain on Inabon's parade, but if Bush does invade all the countries with Websites of Massive Decadence, and you live in the United States but host elsewhere ... you could be designated an Enemy Pornographer and interred in Gitmo.

Very valid point, and i agree. The main point here is for those of us who do things right and have busted ass doing it right and being profitable. It is not fair that because of some religious crazy peeps that more than likely are more obscene and more corrupt than the things we show on websites make our life miserable. Offshore is not for outlaws and breaking rules it is and option to maintain what you have built with the effort and money you have put in to. yes adults should be the only ones seeing adults hell i dont want no kid on my site for 2 reasons

1. most of them cant pay
2. it is just not right

however in a country where the effort to be free has twisted the law in such way that they can't even agree on how to create a law to protect without breaking the so called rights and when there is nothing else to do then let lawyers fight it out it is better to be safe and know that your income won't suffer.

treaties yes there are many treaties the advantage we have is that this country was already invaded by papa bush and trust me people don't like that idea too much yeah noriega is out but the price was too high lots of deaths trust me i saw it on a documentary and read the stories and asked people. so yeah we may deal with bush but it is not a kiss ass deal it will be something where bush wont be able to do much as far as flexing politic muscle.

internet is pretty safe down here from those acts. Again only for the legal fuck the ones that break the law and do kiddie porn and other shit. :moon:

my 2 cents

hey very valid point no rain here all sunshine...

however i wonder why bush has not been able to put offline the beheading video sites. none and that is more decadent than big dicks fucking tight pussies.

:)

Nickatilynx 01-06-2005 02:24 PM

Interestingly enough..

Here in Canada broadcasting the beheading video (especially if it isn't newsworthy) would get you into more trouble than pretty much any porn movie.

As I discovered when I had the , at the time the brilliant ,or so I thought , idea to open a gore site.

on the subject of the USA cracking down on pornography inside the US , reminds me of stories told by relatives (I'm from the Maritimes) of when the US had booze prohitibitions and how my relatives made absolute killings either driving or boating booze over the border. :)

It was said they could make 1000s of dollars for a days work in the days when the average Joe was earning $1 a day :)

I hope the US prohibits all of the filth!!! :)

My genes will obviously kick in and find a way to import sleeze into the Good Ol US of A :)

At , of course , super profits , whilst not breaking my homelands laws in any way! :)

BRING IT ON MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!

Gonzo, I think you should look in that big bag and start finding some dirt on the AG!!!

The only way to beat a politician is to attack his reputation - give the news something more newsworthy than yet another attempt at getting rid of porn.

oh look, I think I just found his name in my porn subscriber logs ... that's got to be good for a few hundred joins in free publicity :agrin:

Its just another level in the game ... & anything that eliminates some of the players can't be all bad ;-)

I second that!

btw Nick, semi-related matter, HoneyBlond has volunteered in the past to get the pearls forum/monthly contest up and running .... all it needs is a thread once per month with all the nominations in it, and a prize for the winner.

Definitely. And at one time I thought it would be impossible to see anyone miss Janet Reno... but how many years did people agonize over THAT loss?
