WegcashCorey wrote on weasel's board..

Thing is in the board business, your advertisers are your lifeblood. You have to go the distance for them in a multitude of ways:

1) You need to get people there posting. We can talk quality over quantity another day because the simple fact is the more people that are actively posting on your board, the more people will make the trek over to check things out. People are always looking for something new, whether that is business threads or gossip.

2) You can't drive major programs away from your board. Plain and simple, if a major program wants to quit advertising, the following steps should be made:

-Ask the advertisers why they are canceling and attempt to resolve the matter at the core of the issue.

-Offer the advertiser some type of plug or deal which should be gauged by the length of past support.

-If those fail, part ways with the advertiser on a good note. Always remember, new programs that have the capital for mass advertising are often times the endeavor of major programs. You do not want to short yourself the opportunity to bring that advertiser back in the future.

3) Support the current advertisers. weasel's board and GF-Y does an excellent job in this regard. Sic Cash sends our products traffic; hence, they believe in our business. They always have. So when they say they like our products, it is the truth and I doubt they have any advertisers in which they do not believe in there businesses. I rarely have to awaken Chris to pin our threads, they just get pinned. GF--Y is also good in this regard, although the style and audience you cater to are diversely different.

4) Try to have some class, if not a lot, a little goes a long ways. Aeon posted on O-prano that back in the day, he used to flame me hard even though at the end of the day, in some cases, he was wrong. Thing is, I would automatically apologize. Why? He is the client. The customer. He might send 1 signup a day, he may send 30, I don't care. I want them all. That is my job. When you own a board, you have customers. Boards are no longer the only Conoco residing off the freeway whereas you do not even have to clean the bathroom because people just have to use your services. You need to clean the bathroom. You need to smile and be friendly.

I will never post on O-prano again. I would never suggest anyone advertise there. That is not a ransom, it is a reality. There are only 2 people that post on this board that realize how deep my connections in this industry go and I doubt anyone knows who they are. Rest assured, those connections would take my advice and they have a lot of capital to spend. I will be taunted timelessly over there for the lifetime of that board; my personal information will long be sifted through by them to use against me. That is life, a life which comes with the territory of doing my job. At the end of the day, I wish them all the luck in the world and hope the new change leads them down a path of future successes. I wholeheartedly believe that having class goes a long way and that said, I would likely not retaliate in any event that threats came to fruition. I also wish Michael the best of luck with his future as he has undoubtedly been a leader in this industry for a long time.

Just my opinion.

How deep can his connections be in this industry when 2 years ago he was sucking cock waiting on tables for tips.

Holy shit, now he knows how to run a board. Is there anything the Waiter can't do?

the best advice I'll ever give you besides "don't eat the yellow snow"
never hire someone who's handle is that of a kind of bread..... ;-)

sarettah 12-01-2004 04:47 PM

As a potential advertiser and someone who's roots and connections in this industry goe extremely deep and who knows everything, but mainly as a POTENTIAL ADVERTISER...

I know for a fact that the best thing for a board to do is to give away their advertising for free. That is the best way to attract advertising to your board. Once you have good advertisers with deep roots and connections you will get lots of posters and eventually some of them might actually post something worth reading. Once that happens you'll make the bling.

In fact, I would highly reccomend that a board PAY their advertisers to advertise there. That way the board will make their money even quicker.

Also, a board owner should never disagree with any potential advertisers because that potential advertiser is a potential customer and as we all know (at least those of us with extremely deep roots and connections) the customer is always right.

Listen to my advice and you can't go wrong.

I know this for a fact.

IMHO.

No they arent, the POSTERS are a boards life blood, they are what can ultimately make or break a board.

Again, yes you can, there are SEVERAL large programs we dont allow advertising to be sold to on the GA Media resource network.

Quote:

Ask the advertisers why they are canceling and attempt to resolve the matter at the core of the issue.
Most of the time advertisers cancel because they dont track traffic properly.

What the point in only seeing how many webmasters signup to your program? They also need to know how much traffic was sent by the resource, for example, we recently had a client want to cancel their advertising because they only saw 80 new webmaster signups to their affiliate program in a week, the fact that we had sent them OVER 5000 clicks and their affiliate signup page looked like it was designed by a 5 year old on crack cocaine obviously didnt have anything to do with it LOL

Quote:

Whilst losing a paid ad space - good stuff ;)

No they beleive in the $2k you bring them each month, the truth is, they couldnt give a shit whether your program fails or succeeds, just so long as you keep sending them payments every month.

Thats my take on webmaster advertising anyway ;)

Oh and if anyone is interested in getting some fresh wm traffic to their programs, shoot an email across to rainey@gamediacorp.com who can hook you up :)

You missed maybe the most important part of running a board. A successful board is a community of users. More specifically they'll be users who have a common interest and are like minded. The size and strength of that community is what ultimately dictates success or failure.

If you have a strong active community of users, everything else will take care of itself. Advertisers who desire to do business with the demographic of that community will come. And the community will take care of itself, the board is merely a piece of software and a URL....it is no more significant than a meeting room where a real world club might choose to meet. If the room is no longer desirable or the management fucks up, the club moves. The same happens with boards on the web, not just in adult but other similar "user groups" as well. This is not adult specific.

Sure, you can build up traffic to a board and lure advertisers with sheer numbers with pay per posts, stuffing the board with employees, sig-ho's, etc. Money can be made that way, but the vast majority of the people are there due to monetary motivations. This is the difference between employees and friends/family.

A true online community is more like friends and family. People are there because they enjoy each others company and want to hear what each other has to say. Often life long friendships are built that extend beyond the realm of whatever the common interest of the board was whether it be adult entertainment or fly fishing.

You might wonder why an entire board full of people might pile on when one of their own is perceived as being attacked. Again the answer is simple, they're friends that extend beyond business relationships....it's more like family. You can buy business relationships, you cant buy friends.

My advice is: don't take any advice from me. Look at my history and be afraid, be very afraid. (only kidding...primarily)

Dontcha love people who protest how deep their industry links are? Dontcha just know they've met Jenna Jameson and that's about it (and even I've met Jenna Jameson).
