So Dubya wants the changes the 911 commission suggested implemented as quickly as possible and they are being blocked by House Republicans ???
 ****************************************** http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=100...=top_world_news Frist Says Congress May Revive Intelligence Overhaul Bill Nov. 21 (Bloomberg) -- Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Congress may try before the end of the year to revive a bill to overhaul the nation's intelligence services that was stalled by objections from Republicans in the U.S. House. First supported the legislation to reorganize intelligence agencies under a single director when it was voted on in the Senate, though he said on CBS's ``Face the Nation'' that the version being negotiated yesterday by lawmakers was ``not ready.'' House Republicans were right to stop it, he said. ``We're not going to just jam it through tomorrow,'' Frist, a Tennessee Republican, said. ``We've got to get it right. That's what the American people deserve.'' The legislation is intended reorganize intelligence agencies as recommended by the independent commission that investigated the failure of U.S. spy agencies to detect plotting for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that killed almost 3,000 people. President George W. Bush endorsed the commission's findings. .................................................. .. |
I haven't paid much attention to the news over the last 48 hours or so, but IF what the people trying to block the bill are charging is correct, and the new "Intelligence Czar" really would interfere with battelfield intelligence - then I'm on the side of some folks I don't usually side with.
Quite frankly, I only want as much cozying up between military intelligence, foreign intellience, and domistic intelligence as is absolutely necessary. Frist's statement, however, reminds me of one I've seen attributed to Ghandi (as well as others) - "Excuse me, I'm the leader - I must catch up with my people." |
PD, is this Trotsky or Kalinin?

But my reason for posting it was because it is Bush having trouble with his own party... No democarts to blame or anything and this is a piece of legislation that Bush has said he wants passed... So, it might just be a blip or it might indicate that Bush might not have entirely smooth sailing ahead just because the reps won't have to hardly talk to the dems anymore once all the new seats change over.... The House can still be awful independent when they want to be.... |
Oh, I think the folks on the right are going to give Bush fits unless he panders to them even more than he already does.
