Well, if Bush-Cheney etal wouldn't put vast distance between themselevs and the "Unfit for Command" book, before, they certainly should now.

I think that it speaks volumes about the characters of both Bush and Cheney that they did not outright condemn the book as trash right up front. Just imho of course.

Anti-Kerry Book Scribe Sorry for Slurs
By JENNIFER C. KERR, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - One of the authors of a new anti-John Kerry (news - web sites) book frequently posted comments on a conservative Web site describing Muslims and Catholics as pedophiles and Pope John Paul (news - web sites) II as senile.

But as he prepared to launch the book, "Unfit for Command," Jerry Corsi apologized for the remarks in an interview with The Associated Press Tuesday, saying they were meant as a joke and he never intended to offend anyone.

In chat room entry last year on freerepublic.com, Corsi writes: "Islam is a peaceful religion — just as long as the women are beaten, the boys buggered and the infidels are killed."

In another entry, he says: "So this is what the last days of the Catholic Church are going to look like. Buggering boys undermines the moral base and the lawyers rip the gold off the Vatican (news - web sites) altars. We may get one more Pope, when this senile one dies, but that's probably about it."

Corsi, who described himself as a "devout Catholic," said the comments are being taken out of context. "I considered them a joke," said Corsi, who owns a financial services company and has written extensively on the anti-war movement.

In a March posting, Corsi discussed Kerry's faith, writing: "After he married TerRAHsa, didn't John Kerry begin practicing Judaism? He also has paternal grandparents that were Jewish. What religion is John Kerry?"

Kerry and his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, are Catholic.

"I don't stand by any of those comments and I apologize if they offended anybody," Corsi said.

The Kerry campaign called Corsi's Web chat postings disgusting.

"President Bush (news - web sites) should immediately condemn this sleazy book written by a virulent anti-Catholic bigot. It says something about the smear campaign against John Kerry that it has stooped to enlist a hatemonger," said campaign spokesman Chad Clanton.

Calls to the Bush-Cheney campaign were not immediately returned.

"Unfit for Command," which goes on sale Wednesday, accuses the Democratic presidential nominee of lying about his decorated wartime record and betraying comrades by returning from Vietnam and alleging widespread atrocities by U.S. troops.

The book claims that Kerry earned his Silver Star not in a barrage of enemy fire, but rather by killing a fleeing Viet Cong teenager. It also questions the three Purple Hearts that Kerry earned, saying that none was for serious injuries and two wounds were self-inflicted.

According to medical records from his naval service, Kerry still has shrapnel in his thigh from a war injury.

"I think it's important the country have the facts about John Kerry so that they can reach a reasonable decision," said co-author John O'Neill, who succeeded Kerry in command of a swift boat. O'Neill also is spokesman for Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, which began airing an anti-Kerry ad last week.

yup, thinking the same thing here as well

I was going to go over and see Kerry's big speech tonight at the Thomas and Mack, but the traffic is a nightmare..I'll just watch it on TV.

He did pay some lip service earlier today in addressing the Yucca Mountain situation... I hope that if my vote helps get him in the White House he keeps the fucking promise...

just remember, this doesn't affect just Nevada, but all of the states that that nuclear waste will be travelling through to get there...

see, I'm not concerned about the taliban boogeyman hitting the nuke dump, but everyone who's state those trains pass through carrying all that nuclear waste had better be concerned....because if they were going to strike, that's where it would be...along the route, not at its final destination...

You people don't see anything wrong with describing catholics as pedophiles? Sad.

only the priests

I think the Catholic church is the world's largest cult...

the only difference between David Koresh and the Pope was grooming and financial backing

your pretend ignorance for the sake of being different while baiting people into what you feel is an easily winnable argument and exercise in semantics about the difference between "all catholics" and those molesting children/covering it up, is sad.

chodadog 08-11-2004 07:29 AM

Not even talking about semantics. The whole thing about catholic priests being pedos angers me, but not for the reasons that you're most likely assuming. People don't realise just how common sexual abuse is. I think the last statistics i saw about the catholic church were that 1 in 25 priests had been accused of molestation. Fucked up, indeed, but sadly not very far out of line with the rest of the population. What annoys me about the catholic church situation is that people aren't aware of the general population statistics. So people focus on the catholic church when the issue comes up, not realising that there's a good chance someone living just a few houses down the street may be a pedophile. I think it gives people a false sense of security to think numbers like that are isolated in the catholic church. That scares me.

yeah, but if the guy down the street molests children, he goes to jail, he doesn't get a fucking transfer and cover up...

betcha they do...

or it is swept under the carpet.

Yeah, so?

You got one guy who sounds a little flakey in there.

Otherwise, you have a book of 60 eyewitnesses giving their accounts of how Kerry lied on everything, plus 250 signed affidavits supporting the statements in the book - compared to the nine men who were on Kerry's particular boat (they operated in groups), which were only with Kerry for two or three weeks per assignment. Out of 25 officers who served with Kerry, only one supports Kerry and 17 say he's a loose cannon and is unfit for command.

So what it comes down to is, the word of 10 men who barely knew Kerry compared to 250 who observed his actions and 60 who were direct eyewitnesses to the events concerned - all of whom were there.

I heard the doctor who treated Kerry on the radio today. The individual who signed the medical report worked under him. They have no idea how he got the purple heart for a tiny piece of metal half an inch by one eith of an inch just under his skin.

You better read the book before you decide who is lying - 10 men on the democratic side versus 250 on the consevative side. They're not making any money from the book and some are even registered democrats.

...between us boys,
would you wanna have Bush as your commanding officer in Vietnam?????

(after he completed the tour of duties as National Guard, of course)

you know what is interesting?

all thoise people ARE alive to tell the stories how they served UNDER his command....59,000 dead named on the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington DC envy them,
regardless if they are lieing or not....

One guy who's flaky ???

First of all, he is credited as the co-writer along with O'Neill who has already been pretty much completely discredited as to his motives.

Then, you have Elliot, the guy who reccomended Kerry for several of the medals. He signed the affidavit, then he goes and publically says that he should have never signed the affidavit then he signs another affidavit saying what the original affidavit said. Meanwhile, he helped Kerry campaign in a previous election, apparently having no problem backing the man.

Then the doctor you quote, saw him on TV last night and saw him debunked pretty well. I think it was John Stewart that pointed out that the doctor's name does not show up as the attending doctor on any of Kerry's medical visits. Further, if the wound was so superficial and so unremarkable, why the fuck does this particular doctor remember it 35 years later. I mean, he must have attended to many many wounded people in Vietnam. Many of who had extremely serious wounds, but he remembers clearly that Kerrys wound was nothing.

The guys in the swift boat organization served when Kerry served, nothing more. They did not necessarilly serve alongside Kerry or see him or know him personally.

I will take the word of 9 men who served directly under Kerry over 250 paid off shills any fucking day of the week.

PornoDoggy 08-11-2004 11:10 PM

I served with Admiral Elmo Zumwalt and Admiral Hyman Rickover.

Actually, Admiral Zumwalt was the CNO when I enlisted, and he showed up and gave a speech to us while I was in "A" school after boot camp.

Admiral Rickover was in charge of the sub force when I was in. I actually did meet him a couple of times - one when I was interviewed for a position on his staff and a couple of times when I escorted some prospective Nucs to interviews with him.

My relationship with Admirals Zumwalt and Rickover is roughly the same as the reationship of the signatories on all those "affidavits" to John Kerry.

Oh yeah ... my dad served with Eisenhower, too.

This whole subject (Kerry's military record) is bullshit. It is on a par with the attempts to tie John McCain to the Forrestal fire (hey - he was on deck waiting to launch when it broke out), or the obscene way the bobbleheads attacked the record and patriotism of (Congreesman and former VA Director) Max Cleland, a triple amputee due to service in Vietnam.
