After this latest wave of hacker attacks which use 3 different types of IE exploits, only 2 of which have been patched so far by MSFT, I decided to switch to the browser many of my friends have been praising: Firefox. It's got easy privacy controls related to pop-ups and cookies, it includes tabbed browsing, has google search built in, and customizable toolbars that you can create yourself.

Buff,

Nice isn't it? Hell I even upgraded from 4.6 ...lol...

SykkBoy 06-25-2004 10:13 PM

I'm still a diehard netscape user, but might look into firefox

Hell Puppy 06-25-2004 10:19 PM

I think they got it right with the 0.9 release. So far I'm pleased.

With all of the security exploits that are out there, I think a lot of people are waiting for a good alternative and this just might be it. Seems to render all of the pages well, available on Linux, Mac and Windows, and has a nice selection of plugins.

They also made the transition very seamless by importing not only your bookmarks, but stored passwords, cookies, history file, etc as well.

There's really no reason *not* to try it, you can be online surfing with it in under 10 minutes.

My brother keeps saying i should update to .9 but i'm too lazy. Been using .8 for a while and i love it. Way less memory intensive than IE, too, which is always great.

TheEnforcer 06-26-2004 10:43 AM

hmmm.. might have to check it out..

Mike AI 06-26-2004 02:10 PM

What;s URL to download this software?

Peaches 06-26-2004 04:16 PM

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

I'm going to try it on my laptop. I moved from NS to IE just a couple of years ago, so moving again should be painless ;)

masterp74 06-26-2004 04:47 PM

I must say firefox .09 is great.

I dumped opera last night

Hell Puppy 06-26-2004 08:08 PM

Only flaw with it I've seen so far is you're one of those nasty evil TGP people who runs a post and gives away all that content to surfers.... The approval and editting tools of the latest TGP software dont work worth a shit with it. And that's a shame because that's the exact type of task where you're most likely to get hit by some clown trying to make 2 cents off crippling someone's machine with a toolbar.

Do that. You won't regret :)

It's small incremental (0.8 - 0.9) but more stability and surfer-friendly...

Simple : I enjoy while surfing with FF 0.9

:awinky:

Opti 06-27-2004 07:33 AM

I just tiried it because of this thread.... but just like most other netscape related products I have tried, it has crashed several times already.... and it couldn't manage to import my exisitng ie settings, passwords and favourites.

I cant use the google toolbar and it renders html quite a bit different to IE too.

I like the tabbed window feature.. but I think I still want to see the web the way most people do... maybe when they get to version 6 it will almost work properly, like netscape.

Cleo 06-27-2004 09:23 AM

I still prefer Mozilla over Firefox. I use Safari for most of my browsing, but keep Mozilla around for a few sites that don't work properly in Safari. Personally I don't know how anyone can use a browser without built-in tabs and popup blocker.

Mike AI 06-27-2004 12:50 PM

I have been using FireFox all weekend....

I am digging it a lot!!

pushpills 06-27-2004 01:03 PM

I can't seem to get through firefoxes popupblocker so I hope surfers don't start using it (I doubt they will).

It's a pretty good browser, there's a certain search I use that brings up about a meg of results that freezes i.e. alot but firefox handles it no problem.

atlant 06-27-2004 01:18 PM

Yes... FF is nice for adult WMs... and bad for surfers :)

Hammer 06-27-2004 01:58 PM

I've been trying it and like it so far too.

Is there any way to change the default browser in ICQ so it doesn't launch IE when I click a link that someone sends me? It's kind of a pain to remember to copy and past the link.

Actually FF is good for surfers and bad for WMs. We don't want to deal with popups when we're surfing but most of us make money from popups, so anything that stops them is bad for us and good for the surfer.

Just starting using it = so far, so good :) The new laptop's graphics REALLY sucked on IE for some reason. Now everything's really small, but not as pixalated. I need to have dinner with Gonzo, HP and RNB so they can put my laptop in working, useable order ;)

So I s'pose you would also want us to curtail recruiting hot young models when her big bulldyke girlfriend is standing right there as well? I personally just think she was insulted that we didn't want to shoot her too.

I've been using FireFox for months and I love it..

No more spyware getting installed... Fewer browser crashes... etc etc. FireFox is great.

Been using Firefox for a few days since seeing this thread. Only complaint is that I can no longer copy and paste tabled data into Excel.

:(

check the firefox/mozilla homepage -- they might have something about it in the plug ins or FAQ.

Well, I looked around and could not find anything that would allow me to grab multiple cells and paste them into Excel.

Copying and pasting multiple cells puts all the data into one cell in Excel.

If anyone knows how to do this, please lmk.

TIA
