I dislike AVN, but I wonder what the real story of why D$'s girl Jenn got let go. Was she fired? Are they cutting back to save money? Is there some drama here? She was under contract, seems AVN would be legaly bound.
Hard to tell with this group, they earn money with their smooth talk... |
For D$ to pull the Players Ball - something major must have happened. That is an emotional thing to do, if it truly was making the $$ people thought. OR maybe it was not making money, getting tougher to get people to cough up cash to put it on? IT went down hill a few years ago.
Wonder what the real story is?? |

I've always thought he may have fallen into the trap of catering to the beer money crowd. Most of them have no business plans, they spend whatever they make on things to impress their friends. Vegas is just a big party for them, any business done is coincidental...and they're all about flash over substance. I wish sponsors would start to realize that the people who are serious are more than willing to pay for their own meals and drinks, and they do not go to the shows to be able to tell their friends back home they were rubbing elbows with pornstars and rappers. Music, a bar, food, strippers, etc, are all nice, but secondary. And it's important that if there is music that it's not on the ENTIRE time or that there are quiet areas to retreat to in order to have conversations. Shows and parties should primarily be about getting some face time with people you're either doing business with or might have an occasion to do business with in the future. |

I have met, at least twice the number of posers, as I have REAL people... and would much rather have a good meal, and nice conversation with some real business involved, than I would hang out and try to decide who not to do things with as I watch them show their true hand at some party, tripping over themselves just for another photo op. without naming names, ( I have no time for the drama today) I would rate the bullshit factor 85% to 15 % from all the people I have met over the course of the last year. That does get a little frustrating. and contrary to popular belief, I am not into the party seen, or see no point in getting drunk or fucked up on drugs, as a way to get good business done. ( I do not classify pot as a drug) it actually cracks me up, to see people beg for a vip status at a party, while blowing off a chance to actually sit and do business with someone. I just don't get it.... but hey whatever, I guess that is what makes me such a nobody LOL |
In the Internet World - Jen was AVN. Most know I have had my ups and downs with AVN since 1995. But, Jen was usually there finding a way to keep things civilized between us. I do not have one bad thing to say about Jen. I think AVN should have found a way to neogiate the contract instead of firing her. They are not on that good a ground or popular with the Internet world (who are not part of their video world) They may come to find the firing was a mistake?
How good a relationship would you have with an organization who just fired YOUR wife who has 9 years of service & a contract? Would you want to do anything, in any way of cooperation with them? Sometimes people neogiate good contracts, are just TOO successful, and become too expensive? |

sometimes it is easier to hire a rookie to monitor the already exsisting systems at a much lower rate. ( I do not know Jenn, or AVN. I am just basing my statement on a general practice that is often employed by any business. In order to increase the bottom line.) |

No more KBrother? No more Wiggers Ball? They updated www.marketingfirm.com - maybe they spotted some newbies on the horizon and are just freeing up some more time to properly cash in? |
It is interesting to see how many posters at G F Y say the Player's Ball is the or one of the main reasons they attend a show.

First we take the content world by storm becasue of the AIDS tests and now we take the FFNB to the masses.
Fat Fucking Nobodys....our time has come! EAT MORE IF YOU WANNA SCORE! |
It takes all kinds of people, locations, and events to have a successful TradeShow that people will pay to go to.
Rap is certainly a long way from Elvis. I of course am from the latter generation. But, in my day - make no mistake - I could party with the 'best of em :-) I have to watch and listen very carefully to figure out what people want, and try to give it to them. I am from a more serious generation, who believes in networking & seminars - over loud parties & strip clubs. But that is me, and there are few in this business of my generation. So, I have to find the middle ground. This industry is very diverse in age, experience and what they enjoy. I have been to 1 PB and 1 PHB - so guess I am politically correct ahahahaha. The PB at Cybernet will have a Regae theme, which should go over better in a place like San Diego, and the Canes Bar and Grill is a great place. I am pleased that D-Money decided to make it a part of Cybernet; just as I would have been pleased if there was a PHB. I have learned that MY preferences are not really as important, as offering choices to this diverse group of Sponsors & Attendees. You can't please everybody all the time, but maybe you can do something to please most some of the time :-) |
I have never met Jenn, but from the people that I trust who do know her say she is the one in the family with the real skills and talent. I am sure she will be picked up by someone soon.

Very funny thread on GFY. So many sheep in this industry.
Does anyone really thing this will change AVN or the Internext shows at all??? If all the GFY kiddies boycott it because of the Player's Ball not being there - wouldn't that be a good thing? |

AVN Fires Advertising Manager Jennifer Rosenblatt At Scott Fayner's well attended birthday party at Club Ice on Cahuenga Wednesday night, I heard speculation that AVN VP Darren Roberts was behind the firing. According to speculation, those parts of the AVN empire that Darren runs are more profitable than the parts that Paul Fishbein runs. Therefore, he's achieved more power in the AVN machine and he made the decision to get rid of Jenn. I also hear that Farley Cahan, head of AVN Online, and AVN editor and publisher Tim Connelly were glad to see her go. I understand that the primary reason for the firing was financial. Jenn's contract and annual salary was just demanding more money than AVN wanted to pay her. This firing has been in the works for about six months. |
Jennifer doesn't work at AVN anymore? That is not what I wanted to hear.. I liked Jennifer.. Very easy to get along with. Always took care of any concerns I had.

The easy money is gone, cash flow is tight, and no one is throwing around money like they used to. Companies are getting tighter with those ad dollars, and I'm sure the ad revenue and trade show revenue charts at AVN look like an upside down hockey stick at this point. Lots and lots of other popular employees at various companies have lost their jobs in the last year, and I think there'll be many more unfortunately. |
