Looks like the Lighting are going to sweep Montreal!!

Game 3 was awesome - must have ripped the guts out of the Canadiens!

I will enjoy dinner in Hollywood! :P

I'm just pissed my Sharks did not SWEEP last night :-( BTW, DrG would sell his new "scooter" for tickets if the Habs made it past this round some how.

I am new to hockey, so can you explan why Montreal is called "Habs" ?

JohnV 04-29-2004 06:16 PM

Mike,

something to do with them being called the Habitants way back in the day or something goofy like that....some of the fans (not their true fans mind you, but "fans") from up North don't even know why their called that

I'm sure DrG will fill us in later by using his wisdom, as he is a very long time Habs fan.

OK I looked it up on the Internet... Amazing how helpful it can be.

After sorting through links to porn, fighting off dialers, spyware, and pop-ups... I got this

Quote:

Habs: A nickname for the Montreal Canadians. the word comes from the French "habitant" (those who live here).

Seems pretty silly for a name. But hey, I am not French!

It does seem silly, that's for sure...I'm not french either, so what the heck...Habitants it is :salute: LOL

eh, that sucked....

Didnt show up in game 1 and chocked in game 3.... It was all over than....

Habs is indeed from Habitants which was (is?) a deragatory term for French Canadians used by English Canadians back in the days (Im thinking 30s - 60s)

Not sure why it stuck.... I guess "Go Canadiens! Go" kinda sucked ;)

Well Mike, you can pick the place, but please, no strip clubs! :P

OH YEAH! they sweeped!! Watched the game on T.V. last night and had mixed feelings because I wanted to see the 'Habs' come back to Tampa. I was in the box directly beside the GM of the Canadiens during game 2 and I can tell you, it was awefully quiet over there almost the entire game heh heh. So I wanted to see them play here again, but there will be other games the Extreme guys will go to. But to see them sweep like they did last night was kick ass, I yelled at my T.V. so much my voice is shot.
Next Game I go to Mike I'll see if I can see ya there bro, kinda doubt it with as many people that go.
