I am with Anthony...the end of an Era....

dantheman 03-17-2004 01:49 PM

sad to see it go, I made my friends there:(

Evil Chris 03-17-2004 02:13 PM

Who'd a thought that 3 or 4 years ago.

End of an era. I cut my teeth on that board.

Carrie 03-17-2004 02:24 PM

This is silly. It's like a friggin wake for a flat message board that's nothing but spam now anyway.
Netpond is still there, message boards are still there... no reason for all of this dumb drama.

Spoken like a true Newbie. :)

There are moments in this industry that stand out. One of them was the exodus of Ynot with Serge to Netpond.

Netpond ruled for the longest time, was number one in everything.

It wasn't just a flat board. Everything stemmed from that board.

You could free hosting, you could get traffic, you could get resources.

With the demise of the flat board, you lost one of the most prolific communities ever seen in this Industry.

Drama over a board closing. The amount of time most of us spent on that board, it wasn't a thing, it was a person.

Someone who gave us laughter, someone who made us angry, sad, and most important, made us alot of money.

I owe alot to that board, it's more than what you think, but then again, you would have had to be there.

sextoyking 03-17-2004 03:09 PM

Anthony,

Spoken like a true soldier.

I couldn't of ever said it better myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thousands and thousands of hours were spent with that online family :)

Yup!

Best move I ever made.

Calling up Serge during the revolt and having this convo:

"Serge , if you post on Netpond , I will never censor you"
"If you don't , it'll be my new home"

:)

Have to say too , Serge was as good for his word. :)

We went from " a " board.
To "THE" board....literally , overnight :)

Nick,

It was "The Board" no questions or doubts in my mind.

damm 10's and hundreds of people reloading all day and night. Oprano and a couple of other boards a great you know. Lots of online friends, biz talk, etc.

But when the flat boards stopped, and threaded came in it seemed to loose a little of the closeness or something, I don't know.

I remember talking with Mikeai and Serge, saying to compete, get with the times, etc you need to change oprano from flat to threaded. Serge didn't want it at first, Mike was worried too. I was pushing for it, now thinking back, it was the right choice, but the right choice isn't always the best choice :)

Serge no doubt about it, you helped make Netpond very popular also :)

confucy 03-17-2004 03:42 PM

I posted my first CONFUCY comment on Netpond.

Meat welcomed me and allowed me to do my thing.

Carrie, you of all people, should understand the loss.
Didn't you make your debut in porn on Netpond? You
sure as hell kissed enough ass there to remember how
good the board was in its heyday.

I will write your comment off to PREGNANCY BLOAT &

Serge, I pissed off Aga.

I have learned that the big guys are allowed to piss and fight,
because they end up kissing and making up within 30 days.

Little fish are not forgiven if they go for the jugular.

You enjoyed the fact that you stole webmasters from Netpond's
board. You were not forgiven for many months by the Netpond
team. If you hadn't visited them in London and paid them off
with Russian rubles, there would still be a battle taking place.

To Oprano ....... from Everywhere

Don't think that's stealing, if you lead what you already led

LeeNoga 03-17-2004 05:12 PM

Definately a legacy board.....I still am pulling shrapnel out of my ass from all the gun fire :-))))

NetPond has to be experiencing some down turn to let most all project managers go, and closing the flat board etc.....

Heard they were gonna D/C the Statistician and now they announce they are gonna keep it alive.....but I wonder how old the stats are.....they said it was not profitable and they got a riff going with the ex-project manager.

Shame to see NetPond #1 back slide to God knows what position, but its the times and dunno how they could have prevented the slide.

Bestat 03-17-2004 05:40 PM

Damn you need to check your journal you keep on me and youll read that I have been around since Condom. No I didnt post till much late into the Netpond game...I kept my mouth shut and tried to learn a few things.

If your doubt it ask Carrie...I was enrolled in the beta brigade.

There are a lot of people that lurk ...

Carrie 03-17-2004 08:41 PM

Anthony I spent two years at least on that board, worked for free for Netpond for 10 months before being offered a job there, held the hand of newbies for a year after that pulling my hair out...
and all the time I was posting on that flat board. It was my HOME.

Don't assume to tell me how I should and shouldn't feel or that I'm being a newbie because I'm not moaning over a script that's simply been replaced with a better script.

Netpond is still there. Meat and Aga are still there. Jayman, Bree... they're still there. It's STILL Netpond. It's STILL offering up a ton of resources to anyone who needs them, good information, help for newbies, and especially - message boards for community and networking.

The old gorilla isn't dead. He simply upgraded, and this sentimental crap is just that... crap.

If you guys were truly so damn sentimental about Netpond and it was SO important to you, you'd still be there posting and they wouldn't have to close that board down, now would they?

confucy 03-17-2004 08:52 PM

Carrie, go drain your nipples and take a valium.

Damn, you are bitter! What is so damn wrong about
sentimentality? You entered Netpond after it had
gone through many changes. You are still wet behind
the clit!

Netpond went down because the owners lost interest.
What do you think would happen to Oprano or Shawville...
excuse me...JustBlowMe, if Serge & Brad stopped posting?
THEIR BOARDS WOULD FUCKING DIE! There would be no
leenoga.com without Lee!

If you had never posted on Netpond, it might still be alive
today. You ran your mouth nonstop for the entire time you
were there. You are a black cloud wherever you appear.
Did Lensman ever disban you, big mouth????

The nice confucy is back, but you are taking the bitter
confucy's place. Have some heart, pregnant lady. You
wanted another kid, now deal with the fat stomach and
the water retention that is making you so grumpy. :yowsa:

Peaches 03-17-2004 09:13 PM

So confucy - everyone else did business and formed relationships on the Condom/Netpond board. You have been banned from it for quite some time. Exactly what is your emotional attachment to something the owners don't want you near and that discusses an industry you don't participate in?

Carrie 03-17-2004 09:18 PM

Carrie,

Touchy touchy.

From your own mouth, don't assume to think you know what we feel.

You don't understand, fair enough. No one here faults you for it.

Those of us who do understand, share the kinship that was the Main Board that was Netpond. Not the spam riddled sham of what it used to be.

Your credentials at Netpond really don't mean much. The fact that you don't understand the difference of the board when we populated it, and how it is now, shows the difference between those of us who made our bones on it, and those who simply came after to pick up the crumbs.

It will never be what it was. I wish Meat and Aga the best with their new venture.

Since I spent 4 months doing the paperwork for the sale to go through between Nickatilynx and Aga and Meat. and the 2 years I ran it, 1 year of running the Newbie board, it is near and dear to me . But that was then, this is now.

:)

confucy 03-18-2004 01:30 AM

Peaches, I was going to ignore you, but you are so much fun...trolling after me - post after post!

You don't have a clue what I do or what friends I have made on the boards. You choose to only see the negative. I got to you years ago. Jesus, woman! Even CJ forgave me for my early mistakes.

I visited Netpond from the day it was created. I was like Gonzo...just another reader. When I finally started posting, I threw in a comment or a question now and then using a different name every time. One day, I stepped back and told myself I should be a part of the group. The mistake I made was that I tried to be anonymous. It didn't work. The tight-knit group didn't want an anonymous opinionated voice. I got hurt and fought back. I was lucky enough to have Lee Noga and Meat on my side. Meat didn't ban me...Aga did. I have put it behind me. I respected the ban. I have never posted again on Netpond from the day I was banned.

I remember all the craziness, the off and on banning of Serge, the posting of the latest news, the contests, the fights, the shows, the jokes, and the hundreds of different personalities. It reminds me of the death of Napster. Changes take place whether we want them to happen or not.

Meet me for a drink sometime, and then judge me. :wnw:

Are you coming to atlanta to meet Peachie for a drink? Ill bring the FFN crew too...we will all buy you a drink! But you have to drink Ice Wine by the pints.

But out of curiosity....what the hell does Napster have to do with Netpond?

Or did you hear that Kev and Darci were back stage with Lars over the weekend?...they were snapping pics and asking him about Napster! I think they were celebrating his upcoming segment on the History channel.

Since I spent 4 months doing the paperwork for the sale to go through between Nickatilynx and Aga and Meat. and the 2 years I ran it, 1 year of running the Newbie board, it is near and dear to me . But that was then, this is now.

I know your history with Netpond Anthony, freckled with good and bad as it may be.
None of that makes *my* history with the board and my feelings about the board any less valid.

I'm touchy not because we disagree, but because you attempted to invalidate my feelings with your down-the-nose post.

If Netpond itself were being closed down I'd get sentimental with the rest of you. That's not the case, though. The boards are still there. The flat board would still be there if all of the people who have posted here and on the flat board today with their sentiments had kept posting there.

Like I said on the flat board, the only shame about it closing down is that it was neglected and left in total disrepair to become a spamfest - humiliated and disgraced - before it was finally let out to pasture.

observations from this thread:

Confucy is really funny
Anthony is really smart
Carrie is really bitter

:yowsa:

Anthony, great posts - my sentiments exactly.

Carrie, who the fuck is Bree & wtf does she or any of the other Netpond Version 8.9 members have to do with what is being discussed?! Just because you don't get the conversation doesn't mean you need to dump your shit on us all.

For something that's 'just a script with some words on it' you sure do seem to have your knickers in a tangle!

RIP Flatboard! Thanks for the friends, foes and funds!

I think perhaps you and the mosquito need to get together and discuss the meaning of "bitter".
The only thing I'm bitter about at the moment is being on dial-up while waiting for my DSL line to come in next week.

I'm not dumping shit on anyone. What I *see* is a lot of shit-dumping, though.

You all look like a bunch of old friends getting together at a pub to toast the passing of an old group member, reminiscing over the good times you used to have... when not one of you bothered to check in on him over the past year and see how he was doing.

If you don't see the hypocrisy, that's okay... my glasses aren't rose-colored. Toast up!

This might not answer your question, JR. If not, well you got me thinking. Not only was I not fired from Netpond, I was the first to leave. Three months later the Exodus came and Adult NetSurprise sprung into being.

While I enjoyed (for the most part) my time at Netpond, and it was certainly a learning experience working there, I have always been a tad proud being the first to leave and not going with the crowd.

Not putting anyone down who stayed longer or decided enmass to stick together. That was cool for them. I just have zero regrets having decided to go my own way and doing my own things.

If that turned out to be tangent, so be it. My opinion on the board closing was already posted on that board. :)

Carrie, no hypocracy.

I have some friends who would take a bullet for me, and I for them. One I haven't seen in three years, another probably not for seven. If anyone of us needed the other, we'd be there in a moment's notice. When anyone of us do next get together, time will have folded to zero, it will have felt as though no time has passed and we'll pick up the inate rythm of our banter immediately.

If, heaven forbid, one of them met with an unfortunate accident, by your analogy no one should show up for the funeral since having not seen each for years means by your definitioin that none cared for the other. Maybe now you can empathize. And if you don't, then you don't.
