Anyone see this?

http://skype.com/

Skype is free and simple software that will enable you to make free calls anywhere in the world in minutes. Skype, created by the people who brought you KaZaA uses innovative P2P (peer-to-peer) technology to connect you with other Skype users. If you are tired of paying outrageous fees for telephony, Skype is for you

I get unlimited long distance in the US for $39.95 a month from SBC (local phone co) and rarely call over seas. I think having to make everyone I talk to be a Skype member would be a much bigger pain than just picking up the phone and dialing.

No doubt, but its almost like a advanced ICQ. You can haev a core group of people you can commnciate with through your computer using voice. Collaberating with offices, friends, employees across the world will be easier and cheaper.

there's been stuff like this, net2phone was/is one of the popular ones

My stepmom video conferences or talks via some software when she talks to her family in Germany.

anyway, this could get some popularity since they will or did announce it on kazaa

I think it's a great idea for business and ya can't beat free for pricing :D

But what will the software cost? will it be a one time payment or a monthly rebill?

It would be great if everyone had it and excellent for our new non adult biz becuase we fax broadcast over 9400 faxes to the USA last week at a cost of £565 - £590 on our current price plan with BT so the savings would be massive when you think we can be faxing everyone on our database (23,000 contacts and growing) all over the world 3 - 4 times a month it gets expensive.

Trev 03-12-2004 06:28 AM

Oh and I forgot to add we're on a reduced business price plan with BT so imagine how bad it could be

I use it frequently. It's pretty damn good, especially for international calls.

Calls to the Europe for free! Can't beat that :)

better sound quality than your telephone? Bullshit.
Just go into any yahoo chat room and listen to people crackling over those microphones and tell me it's better sound quality. Bah.

No need for skype, msn messanger has been supporting this for almost 12 month and the quality is outstanding.
