If asked , what would you say you have learned from this business.

(Someone just asked me) ;-)))

For me it is :

1.) Budget that this business ends next week
2.) Never ,ever , ever , try and have a "relationship" with "content".
3.) If it sends hits , it can be spammed.

:-))

Anyone else?

I learned that:
the more you make money for people, the more chances they fuck you
with MikeAI, Lord Aga and Nick being exceptions.

I also learned that people you share food and wine at the table with you, people who go out of their way to do something for you are your friends, everybody else are just "business associates"

...and you can take it to the bank
;-))))

LadyLaw 03-11-2004 09:31 PM

What I've learned:

Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

You meet the same people on your way up as on your way down, only the roles have reversed.

A smiling face is not necessarily a friend.

No one gets out alive.

cj 03-11-2004 09:35 PM

i've learned that

1) if you stop learning you may as well give up

2) at the end of the day, everyone is in it for themselves

3) if this business stops, the most valuable thing i've EARNT is a place at the dinner table of my friends, and they a place at mine

4) kissing ass only gives you brown lips

5) success comes in many forms, the least of which is money.

6) money can't make you like yourself, no matter how much of it you have.

Nickatilynx 03-11-2004 09:44 PM

probably very very true...

That is very true , and at the same time very sad.

Vick 03-11-2004 09:49 PM

My head is a little thick right now and I know there's many more and better ways to express them but here are a few

Never stop.....learning or doing

Don't depend on anyone but yourself

It might not last forever so enjoy it while you can

Not all pussy is equal

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck then..... it is most likely a duck no matter what anyone says

Quote:

that people you share food and wine at the table with you, people who go out of their way to do something for you are your friends, everybody else are just "business associates"
:okthumb: :okthumb:

If you're at the table for half an hour and you can't see who the mark is ...... it's you

Hope for the best and plan for the worst

Nothing is unbelievable, however a lot of it is bullshit

Gratitude many times has a very short shelf life

Try not to be surprised by anything

Anything can and will happen

When you depend on so many different things to be in line have a quick easy alternate for when one or more go wrong

Message board personalties are just that

Good people come in all walks of life

not sure I picked all these up in just this business but it sure stamped a lot of them home

Edit - p.s. the ancient Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times" can really suck

p.p.s. - Nothing is forever

well..it's just a human nature, nothing we can do about it...

This is true. Also human nature.

one mans success is another mans nightmare

if you don't quit, you'll get what you are after (unless you are a fuckhead)

*KK* 03-11-2004 10:07 PM

I've learned...

Nick's a crook (allegedly).

Serge always paid the best on clicks AND sold them the cheapest.

Don't take Scotty's night vision goggles.

MikeAI still likes less than a handful of people.

This shit won't last forever.

If Visa doesn't like you it won't last much longer.

And most importantly, pay attention, it is possible to get a clue once in awhile.

I'm old and I learned a lot of the things being mentioned in other dealings with people and business, but a couple of the things I DID learn in this biz are:

1) Not everyone in it is a sexual deviant. :awinky:

2) This is the most tolerant of "different" group of people I have ever dealt with. I remember my first show in Miami (1999 I think). I was petrified that no one would talk to me because I was just a plump middle aged soccermom and everyone else was in the "Porn Biz" (except Lee Noga B) ). I could not have been more wrong. :okthumb: If you're young, old, skinny, fat, FFN, Player, Player Hater, gay, straight, mixed - everyone is accepted (or rejected) strictly on their skills and personalities. It may have a lot to do with most of us "meeting" on the computer and not face to face, but it's one of the strengths of this industry IMHO. :rokk:]

AM Jeff 03-12-2004 12:37 AM

Sabby, after watching you on cam.
Who WOULDN'T wanna fuck you...lmao
:awinky:

Mike AI 03-12-2004 12:39 AM

It could take me until next week docuementing all the things I have learned....

Definately reafirms human relationships.
Watch to see how money effects people, including myself.

I am sure I will think of other ones.

The Model / Cam Bimbo Sabby (Imallboobs) and Webmistress / Business Sabby are two completely separate personalites.

I can deal with the surfers. Webmasters are much more difficult, LOL.

Now, have you ever had any difficaulty dealing with me?
:biglaugh:

Sabby 03-12-2004 12:58 AM

Never! I have never tried to do business with you though :)

Geesh..ya forgotten ?
:o

Sabby 03-12-2004 01:44 AM

Jeff you are a GOOD guy! And a good friend. Most people on this board are.

I'm just alot more cautious than I have been in the past. Thats a good thing :)

You forget Brad "little weasel" Shaw is not in the business eitehr. He is a businessman. Didnt you see him with his suit on in Vegas? Problem is he siad he didnt do any business. I dont get it. Why would you fly all the way out there get dressed in your finest Sears and Robuck Olive suit and get yourself a booth that looked more like Pizza Hut than anything and not do any business? Maybe Vegas is the place to premiere your new breast augmentation?

As an aside someone says they are having happy hours and buying people drinks in different cities. At the last meeting of the FFN board we put together a pool as to how long it is before someone shows up at one of these things...gets drunk and reminds him that they havent been paid. If he belches out one of those high tech snappy retorts....our money is on him getting all of that ass whupped. I guess the only thing left to do is "bleed and sue".

Anyhow I should remind you that where as Mitnick can social engineer your ass....I on the otherhand have advanced powers of the "Jedi Mind Trick" beware reading my threads.

One thing that everyone needs to remember..."The easy money is gone".

SykkBoy 03-12-2004 02:52 AM

To err is human, to repeat is stupid

Friends don't always make the best business partners and business partners don't always make the best friends

If you've never failed, you aren't trying hard enough (even babe Ruth struck out once in awhile)

The people outside the business are much more deviant than the people in the business ("It's always the straights" ;-))

Most sponsors shave closer than a wilkinson sword.

Try everything at least once, only a fool wouldn't.

Only true friends don't play ass games with you.

If your from GFY, then you've already lost.

Sabby 03-12-2004 04:19 AM

DONT paint yourself from head to toe with strawberry jam and then sit for 30 minutes with you legs crossed.

DONT put an Easter Egg in your ass (there is a very good reason why anal beads have strings on them).

What I have learned in this business?

People are fucking thieving, scamming, lying backstabbing assholes. Not much else.. oh, and that traffic equals money.

Dravyk 03-12-2004 04:57 AM

Trust the "crooks" the most -- they know you're looking so they will either not screw you at all or screw you the least

Trust the "honorable, loved-by-all longtimers" the least -- cause you won't expect them even capable of doing anything wrong, and so they will screw you the hardest and it will hurt the most

There are of course exceptions, but that has turned out to be the rule these days.

Hooper 03-12-2004 08:38 AM

Two lessons i've learned:

You get what you take.

Tend to your own house.

Bishop 03-12-2004 08:43 AM

It is always just business even if it feels personal.

Traffic is the end all be all.

The asking price is always to high.

The normal looking people are probably the crooks. The strange looking people can probably be trusted.

It usually only takes 10 seconds to spot the fools.

There are some people in this business who can figure out how your making your money with only 1/10th of the equation.

this gotta be the thread of the year...VERY interesting read, very educational

Almighty Colin 03-12-2004 09:24 AM

It's not what you make as much as what you save.

Almighty Colin 03-12-2004 09:35 AM

In the end, you must make you own judgement on who to do business with. Can't say how many times someone has tried to convince me not to do business with someone that turned out to be great for me.

Don't listen to people who are doing well at something when they tell you how difficult some aspect of their business is. Or at least, realize they are more likely trying to dissuade future competition than do you a favor.

Sharpie 03-12-2004 10:18 AM

"Always lend a helping hand.
The people you help along the way will be your allies forever."

There is NO forever in this biz.
Don't assume anything! The only thing you can count on is CHANGE. Don't be intimidated by the 'big egos - they put on their pants the same way you do. Everyone has some good and bad in them - try and figure out which is which.

Carrie 03-12-2004 10:33 AM

I didn't learn this here but it certainly applies.

When they said it couldn't be done, what they meant was, they couldn't do it.

This business reminds me a little of the used car industry. :)

1) Everyones got to make money ( ie always leave enough in the deal for the next guy )

2) Closing the deal is just as important at the negotiation part.

3) Stick to the truth ( it tends not to come back around to bite your arse when your not looking :awinky: )

4) Know thy friends, enemies & aquaintenances and their strenghts & weaknesses ( that way you don't get to many nasty surprises )

:)
