I was going to use a cardboard box at first, was told by a few people that is what they use. Parent said no. Now I want to use a case from a broken DVD player, like the metal casing that went around it. Anyone know if this is a good idea? If it is, do I need something to ground it since the case is metal?
Or does everyone think I should buy a case? |
How about a case of Guinness? :stout:

We don't need no fucking cases... I ran a server that was a pile of circuit boards for 3 years.... No case... Nada... Just make sure that nothing is metal to metal (hard drives, etc) and you are fine..... just imho of course.... |
I like how you're now poor, lol!
Sorry, but watch the news - trailers burn to the ground with nothing more than a match strike - ain't nobody building a computer in a freaking cardboard box in my house. |

lolol.... I have not lived with my parents since I was 16 :P But, there is no danger there.... In fact the only computer fires I have yet seen were in computers in cases... Bothe of them caused by power supplies taking a turn for the worse (and both caused by miswiring in the respective buildings they were in) The grounding on a computer protects the components from being ruined, doesn't protect them from burning up... That is what surge protectors and power conditioners are for... Look at your TV.. Is that a grounded plug... Probably not. How about your lamps ? Or iron, or toaster or any of the other small appliances sitting around your house.... In this case, cause the power cord goes directly to the power supply (and I have yet to see an ungrounded cord for a puter power supply) the power supply (which is the most volatile part of the puter) is grounded.... There is no more fire risk in this then in any use of electronic equipment. |
$21 and your problem is solved.. looks like it even has a power supply and usb ports.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...3&category=3669 Or if you want to find another one.. here is a shortcut to relevant results. http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?q...10&BasicSearch= I've had friends that just had their computers in a pile of hardware sitting off to one side. Get a box they don't cost much.. not sure where you live but there should be an electronics discount place near by. Its cheaper to buy a case than it is to try and build something.. as long as that something isn't made out of cardboard. haha |
Your moms head and or uterus, both are barren and have lots of free space.

What kind of insult is that to say her uterus is barren and full of free space? All you are saying is that she is not pregnant. |

hmm.. maybe cardboard isn't such a bad idea.. hah.. I would see if you can find a mom & pop computer place and tell them your a starving student in need of a computer case. It won't likely be $1 but it will probably be a lot less than shipping would cost on ebay. You might also consider looking on ebay for listings only in your area. Find someone that you can just go to their house and pick it up. |
a friend of mine had his computer all mounted on a piece of ply wood that he had hanging on his wall like a picture....was crazy, I liked it :)
|
(you guys are NOT helping me out here.......
|
hey CT, after you get though hanging that cardboard box case on your wall we can go get some beers and cruise main and holla at the hotties.
:P |
