Well? :-)))

Hmmm.
|
i dont think it will be stopped before peoples ability to abuse it will be stopped for the most part.

For 3rd party, I would say Summer 2004. But I am always pesimistic.
There will always be"scammers" who work around the rules and make millions. |
I think they would like to stop it. I think they would like to have stopped it a few years back. However, although technically it could be cut off only for adult entertainment, that opens Visa/MC up to lawsuits unless they also prevent everyone else from recurring billing as well. That would mean shutting down everything from AOL to automatic payment of things like utility bills.
And perhaps more importantly it would hurt consumer confidence in their products. They would essentially be admitting that they cant control how merchants bill consumers cards and taking away the feature instead. Bad marketing move. I think they are more likely to just make it tougher to do for adult. Or at the very minimum they might do something like require an email to the consumer a few days before the transaction reminding him that it's coming and offering a chance to cancel. |

I do not think recurring will be removed as an option, however VISA/MC will keep lowering chargeback rates, so processors and sites will be at risk if they do recurring as done in the past years. The solutions they could do, might aswell mean the end of recurring for most sites.
Scams will still be here - they will just adapt... setting up offshore and onshore companies with a lifetime of less than 6 months. They do not need an adult merchant account to do these scams, since they are not planning to stay in business for a long time, do not have to pay taxes because there are no money in the corps, when the taxman wants his cut etc. Banks have shown they are too slow to stop these scams, so the only way to stop this in the long run is if the police/legal system starts to work together international. |
So far 11 believe it will happen and 14 are delus-, um, think it won't ever. Interesting.
