And bust my ass for him, and absorb everything he knows about becoming successful.
Do things like that really happen, or only in the movies?

Candice 12-01-2003 10:02 PM

it will happen only if you apply it... :wnw:

And how did the successful person become successful? By getting out there and trying, failing, trying, failing, trying and finally succeeding?
Or by being handed everything?

Methinks you'll appreciate it more and learn more if *you* are the successful person that you learn from.

i'm halfway there, but it'd be nice to learn some shortcuts.

i hate wasting time (and money) figuring things out on my own that other people already know the answer to

Well it never hurts to ask!
Find someone successful that you trust, and just ask them. "I'm thinking of doing this in this way, is there an easier way of doing it or should I be looking at it differently?"

Besides, when you're doing it yourself you'll often come up with new ideas that other people haven't thought of. Not giving yourself the opportunity to do that would be a crime. :)

Hooper 12-01-2003 10:14 PM

most successful people are self centered and greedy and will stop at nothing to become more successful.

unlikely that you'll find somebody who is successful that wants to teach you how to do the same thing :)

all my friends are losers with day jobs.
I have 1 friend who works from home but I already make more money than him so he doesn't motivate me.

I appreciate your thoughts though, very true

I agree 100% and I don't blame them.

but still it's nice to have some help sometimes from someone who will actually do the work (me)

So, your solution is to go to work for someone else ??

If you are already making more cash than your buddy, then you are on the right track....

Paying attention to what certain people (not me for sure..lol) say on this board will keep you on the right track..... :okthumb:

I don't find anything remotely funny about a woman strapping a child up with explosives. Poor taste doesn't even begin to scratch the surface with this photo.

Most of the guys on GFY think that a "good" gallery has to look like the front of a paysite with tons of graphics to out-do the next designer.

They've forgotten the basic principle... KISS (keep it simple, stupid), and that text grabs a surfer's attention much faster than a graphic that's still not done downloading.

Generally when you go against the majority of GFYers, you're doing the right thing :P

Edit: Blah.... after further thinking, I've edited what i said.. why? Because Im an asshole sometimes.. my bad

how do you measure success? I have been doing this full time, for myself for 4 years or so. Guess that makes me successful. I remember when I gave NBritt the porno 'bug' and now this is what he has been doing full time for awhile now (he and I go way back! think years and years) guess that makes him a success. Whats your measure of success? Yes, I can still pay the bills on my own (had I stayed in oHIo LOL) but I wanted more. More challenges. A chance to grow personally and professionally, so I was offered and accepted a job working for someone else. My new measure of success will be in seeing if my contribution to this company (ExtremePaychecks) will add value to their bottom line. I take a lot of pride in my work, anything I do is a source of pride to me. Ask NBritt or Gonzo how sensitive I can be! LOL I am a regular pouty lil bitch when it comes to gallery designs LOL My measure of success is if I can pay my bills without stress, look at my own work and feel good about it, and if others feel that it is outstanding. None of these will buy me a Nomad or Hummer but down deep, I think it is a much tougher standard of success to meet.

Excellent advice.

I think that if you intern with someone that needs help and is sincere about teaching you that you could learn a lot. I was looking into different investments to diversify. I normally always have at least one or two non-adult things going on and cash is always good. I’ll even do this for hobbies like my farm here. I raise tilapia in pools. I actually worked at a local fish farm 4 days, busted my ass but he taught me a lot in a short amount of time. I would have made some really costly mistakes and I also dialed myself into his network. He’s happy to answer questions or add my food order to his larger order. When I first approached him he thought I was nuts. I told him I’d work for no pay if he let me see how it was done and answered some questions. Let me tell you, its hard ass work. It’s a great hobby but tough business.

I’m not sure you can do that in adult, especially today. The climate is changing so fast and to be honest I’d really think about starting up new in this business right now. I’d hit the resource sites, learn what you can and heed Carries advice.

i had this conversation with my cousin many times. "i want to work for you... i want you to show me everything... i want to learn all i can... then i want to make myself millions"

it was one thing to have this conversation with family. but as an employer, what would they get in return for sharing all this info and experience with you?

What do you offer them? you have to ask yourself this question everytime you are looking for a job. Why will it be of interest to them to offer you so much?

what do you think life is? an episode of Kung Fu?

People are not in business for the simple satisfaction of being in business so that they can share all their knowledge learned through trial and error... successes and defeats and constant risk with others.

you need to start by making a convincing offer to would be employers. if you can't do that, then you will not find what you are looking for because you are asking for value that is infinately greater than that which you offer.
