I know a great many people who are evangelical Christians. I don't have a problem with them - any more than I have a problem with Muslims, Jews, athiests, agnostics, pagans, zen Buddists, Presbyterians, Pedestrians, Budweiserians, or followers of Reverend Moon.

The folks I have a problem with are the ones who aren't content with governing their own conduct in accordance with the dictates of [insert diety here]. The ones I have a problem with are the ones who want ME to behave in manners that they consider moral. The ones I have a problem with are those that misread "render unto Ceasar that which is Ceasar's" as "try and make Ceasar dictate what we want."

Mike, I suppose I can see where you make the assumption that I am somehow "against" the born-again crowd. It's just not true. I know a lot of really good, really nice people who fit that description.

It's the politicians in preacher's clothing (and the bobble heads who follow along) that I got no use for.

Community is normally better of not knowing. A neighbor who minds their own business is a good neighbor in my book. If what I do has a negative impact on someone, relative, neighbor - then they have may have a right to to "know" but since it does.. they are better off being left in the dark. Good think I don't live in Jersey I guess.

in general if someone is "born again" usually they have screwed up their life so bad they feel the need to be "born again" - most "born again" have a "interesting" past

If you look hard enough you can usually find some dirt on "born again"

So I'd know/find the dirt ..... and keep quiet about it....

I agree. The less I know about my weird neighbors too - the better! What I do know makes me worry about the property value! :rolleyes:

However, I do have curious neighbors... I got in an argument with a woman down the street who called my then 10-year old "a little bitch" to my face (because my daughter and her friend were playing catch with a tennis ball in the street near her home). She said, "well your family is weird anyway... you sit in that house with the door closed and never come out... what are you doing in there all day?"

I have a feeling she is the sort that would cause trouble. She already called the school board to report my kids truant. We are registered homeschoolers with the state so fortunately I had my "papers" as proof.

But family? If I had born again Christians trying to stick their nose in my business I wouldn't talk with them about it at all. It's like talking to a wall... been there, done that, won't do it again.

Both my brother and SIL are born again X-tians and I merely tell them I do internet advertising. I don't speak to my mother, who is also born again, so it's not an issue. :)

My entire family knows what i do

including my 90 year old grandmother and except for the under age kids

well excpet my 15 year old cousin cause he saw me front page in an article about porn

My other relatives know, but for my brother and SIL, it would bother them that I do this and they'd never be able to understand. What I do or how I feel about what I do wouldn't change if they knew, and I doubt our "relationship" would change. But they would be upset and possibly hurt and there's no reason to do that to them, IMHO.

My parents know.

My father works with computers and the internet so he doesnt find it all that exceptional. Just a job.


My mother doesnt understand. And since she doesnt understand, she assumes its illegal!

My family does not know I work in this industry. I think they think I am some sort of drug dealer.

And I would tell them what I do, but they are very eccentric and drive me insane, so best they think what they do for now.

When I was a kid they wanted me to act like a grown up, and now that I am an adult they treat me like a kid. Go figure.

Almost everyone in my ex wife's family knows also (except her parents who are wearing blinders and don't want to know and her Grandmother who we never felt any need to tell)

I'm fortunate in the fact that my family is fairly open minded plus my family has always said I was a little eccentric (nice way to express I'm crazy he he he)
