Without plastic I would have a lot more scars than I do. |

K&B was a chain of stores down south. But is no more. Their vodka was the shizzle. :) |
Great stuff sarettah. Very creative. You need to work on your singing though. That sounded like Bob Dylan singing Elton John ;-)

cherrylula - the word shizzle (or what ever) should never be used in a post that has Audrey Hepburn as the avatar Holly Golightly would never have used that word Last edited by Vick at Nov 1 2003, 07:50 PM |

Audrey Hepburn would never say shizzle
She is/was the embodiment of exquisite beauty, grace and class I long for the new era when English and language will again be a thing of beauty, refinement and grace When idea, sentiments and concepts will be expressed with passion, elegance and charm Not the vulgar guttural styling that have been influenced by screw top 40's |

Playing a drunken whore in Breakfast at Tiffany's doesn't exactly scream class ya know. ;) But no disrespect to Ms Hepburn, she wasn't exactly a mirror of that character in real life. |

I've watched Breakfast at Tiffany's at least 50 times Holly Golightly (Eula Mae?) was a girl child/woman looking for something that she didn't even know - is it inside her, is it something she has to find from outside of herself, for that matter what will make her happy and what is she really looking for the screaming reds, not like the blues and Fred/George fell in love with her in spite of and because of everything about her, the hidden innocence, the internal strife Holly Golightly can't even name the cat because she can't give it a decent home But the party in her apartment is too cool |

I have no idea who you are, but you nailed that shit on the head. |
But what about how she gets drunk and brings home that rich guy she's trying to marry? You don't think Holly was putting out?
You have seen the movie way more than me, I admit, cause I think I have only seen it once. But having been young and wild myself once, it didn't take me long to see that little quality in her. Not saying I used to be a drunken whore or anything, but its pretty obvious she was trying to marry into money. And in the end when she fucks up and gets arrested and gets a bad rep, that rich dude dumps her pretty fast. Had that not happened Holly's ending might have been pretty different. And that looking for something... to be loved for who she is? Not for who she is trying to be. Fred/George, isn't he a manwhore himself? |
Fred/George is a kept man as he is a writer who hasn't been published in years and has a "patron" - story line has him tossing the patron (and actually working and being published again) when he thinks he is in love with Holly
Holly is trying to marry into money, but is it because she is afraid of love or is it the best resort she sees, a combination of both? Running from herself and a fear of love? Love is an incredible strong emotion and does/can leave one vulnerable I don't think Holly knows who she is (I think she admits as much or she doesn't know what she wants) and that is part of the internal conflict Funny thing is I don't consider Breakfast a great movie but enjoy Hepburn's performance and the feel of the movie 60's cocktail parties have an immense appeal and a swinging groove B) |
Hey any chick that has champagne for breakfast, or before breakfast for that matter is ok in my book.
I mostly dig the big black sunglasses thing. Ive spent many mornings wearing them myself having partied through most of my early twenties. I'll have to watch that movie again though. I suppose I am trying to find a parallel in the movie with todays world, where "kept" means a little more than cashing someones check. I think Holly is just a young female coming of age trying to figure things out about life. She seems to be trying to conform to what she thinks society expects of her, like she absolutely must find herself some big wig husband in order to be accepted. She drinks cause she really is miserable in thinking she is doing the right thing. And she is still finding herself indeed. Hope I'm not too far off the mark here or anything, I have only watched the movie once and thats what I got from it. The ending was pretty cool, poor cat. Pray hollywood never does a remake of Breakfast at Tiffany's! |

"She drinks cause she really is miserable in thinking she is doing the right thing" - I'll go for that and it was the in thing to do. Who could resist a swinging 60's lounge party. I spent a few years swilling Martini's trying to capture that essence. I think the "kept" man was expected to give the keeper sex, it's never showed point blank but inferred to some degree when Holly is peeking in George/Fred's window and his keeper is tucking him into bed and has left $ also read a rumor that "Bennifer" were supposed to star in a remake of Casablanca - I'll commit heinous crimes to prevent that from ever happening I won't watch the remake of "Sabrina" on general principle and grounds of good taste |
Fucking Eh !!!!!!
You take MY THREAD and turn it in to a discussion of Audrey Hepburn (bless her soul) !!!!!! dam fucking dam people !!!!! Who do you think you are ???? :groucho: (I'm done now...carry on please) |
I'll use anything as a reason to discuss Audrey Hepburn (where's the wolf icon)
Surprised that Edd hasn't shown up with his Audrey Hepburn fetish, he must be chained up again :) |
Blame Serge... He's given GFY'ers Oprano-envy :)
