Great example of ignoring a problem will not make it go away.

Yup
welcome to the assraping these psychotic fuckstains will unleash when they start throwing temper tantrums.....

JR 08-28-2003 03:37 AM

so apart from a few updates now and then on message boards... who is providing true leadership to fight them? what is this fight? who is fighting it? what is going on? what is the strategy? where does it all stand right now?

no one really knows.

they were right to pick on adult webmasters. were are too unorganized, self centered and selfish to fight back. its an easily winnable battle if the case has any merit at all. in the end, we will be relying on companies like Time Warner and Disney to fight them.

I'm beginning to feel the same way JR...

I thought our donations to the IMPA would at least bring us some constant info on their website. I undrstand the legal ramifications and that the site will probably have to feature more than just attacks on ACACIA, but at least some info would be nice.

While I still support the IMPA, it would be nice to have some recent tidbits of info....and I do understand the problems of discussing a pending lawsuit/courtcase.

Far-L 08-28-2003 10:50 AM

The IMPA site will go up today or you can all beat me like a redheaded stepchild.

The IMPA is not fighting Acacia. It is merely assisting with research efforts. Over 20 companies are fighting Acacia, and Homegrown is one of them.

Far-L 08-28-2003 11:00 AM

... and please... don't get frustrated trying to figure out what is going on... best to call me and I will be happy to give my opinion on the subject...

Like some one already said , it is hard to post ongoing info, in a pending case. You dont want the adversary to get too much insite on what you are doing.

thats the funny paradox about the whole issue. its hard to get wide support for something that no one understands and can feel informed and good about.

Far-L 08-28-2003 11:18 AM

and btw...

Thanks for the support!

I don't want to name names in case they want to remain anonymous, but some truly great support has come from webmasters that frequently contribute to this board.

If anyone wants to step forward and take a bow then they can expect a standing ovation from me and the others that are tackling these problems.

I am immensely grateful.

I don't expect posting of your entire info or everything that is happening with the case. Even the most basic of information would be a big help as I've talked to some people who've never even heard of ACACIA or the situation at hand and are asking for information in one centralized location 9these people don't do message boards, etc. so are often in the dark about things like this.

It is never wise to ignore lawsuits. Default judgements can hurt....

Yes sir, you are absolutely correct...

and I would guess that issuing a press release like the one they did cannot be too good either...

aeon 08-28-2003 08:09 PM

Please don't take this wrong...but any group of adult webmasters together makes me nervous.

What is this exactly?...I've seen this mentioned before but is this just a resource - where will the donations go, to whom & for what purpose? Are there any pro-active efforts underway or planned (eg countersuits/media campaigns/lobbying/blackmail with pics of acacia exec's in crotchless panty drag outfits...) will this be a communal legal advisory deal for members...will the funds be available for litigation (either in defense or mentioned above: plantiff actions)?

I know this was created in response to acacia, but exactly how are you planning on responding?

I'm just sketchy on what exactly it is you plan on doing.

[edit] - I noticed you say you're backing a group of webmasters in their fight, but on a case by case basis - for individuals potentially facing litigation - aside from the years of appeals on both sides, how will this help the smaller webmasters that may not have a a few hundred K or your backing to hold acacia off through years of appeals? [end edit]

best of luck -
aeon

Aeon: The IMPA is set up to do research and try to help webmasters forcast issues of which Acacia is only one problem on our horizon.

The IMPA funds can go to help research but the IMPA cannot pay for many of the fees resulting from fighting Acacia. That money is coming out of the pockets of the many companies that are going to court with Acacia.

Jeff Miller, our CFO, will be happy to talk about where the money comes from and what it is being spent on. I can tell you right now that none of it is going to pay us fat salaries or give us expense accounts. All of our time and energy is donated freely.

Every dime has gone or is going into solid research. What IMPA members or non members choose to do with the information is their perogative. We cannot tell people what to do or how to run their business.

I would say our efforts have been extremely proactive and we are frugal. We have had press in print and electronic media, from Wired and Forbes to Tech TV and more. We have been very happy with the response and mind you we don't have cash to spend on a huge pr firm or anything.

Our efforts at creating industry awareness continue and we will seek to show our worth to the community with an ongoing and earnest effort.

We have been on this for longer than anyone else. We responded professionally to Acacia from day one. The IMPA has helped research the issues quite thouroughly. If you look at the IMPA then you will find plenty of information about these issues and you can see what has happened thus far in the acacia matter.

I do understand what you are saying about a bunch of webmasters getting together, but I suggest you watch and see what we are doing. I feel our actions will prove our merit beyond the shadow of a doubt.

You are always welcome to call if you need more information.

206-524-4540 for me, Farrell, or 949-716-8080 for Spike

Thanks for sharing those concerns and criticisms. We have to address questions like those if we truly want to benefit the community.
