my dog actually tries to chase them from the shallows

funny as hell to see a dog barking at the water and ACTUALLY sticking his head underwater trying to catch them

it will be funny as hell and a good lesson if one grabs hold of his nose

HAHAHAHAHAHA

Hey Mikeai, dan,

I need some good sourthern creole crab receipes

As a fan of blue crabs (besides marrying a Marylander, my mother used to drop traps off her dock in Jax), I can tell you that if you plan on making anything more than a VERY small appetizer with one crab, you're going to be disappointed. B)

Mike AI 06-25-2003 10:02 AM

Forest no matter how big the crab is, you are going to need a least a dozen of them before you can really do anything.....

When I was in high school, I was going out with an Italian girl and her Mom could cook....

We would go trap a couple of dozen blue claw crab... Bring them home...

She would cook them into the spaghetti sauce... Just wash the carbs and toss em right into the sauce bucket and then cook the sauce all day long....

The result was pure heaven... A bunch of spaghetti with wonderful Crab and tomato....

Sloppy as hell, but to die for...........

About 10 years ago I had that dinner at a friend's house at the shore of NJ. Pure bliss! I'd never had them like that before or since. :(

Shok 06-25-2003 11:40 AM

I remember when I was young, and I would go crabbing with my family down in southwest Louisiana.

That was the most fun ever, the crabs were so thick, you could just pull off the side of the road near a canal, throw a string in with bacon tied to it and you could pull in 3 at a time.

You could have an ice chest full of blue crabs in about an hour.

I hear crabbing down there isn't so good anymore.

Forest 06-25-2003 11:57 AM

anyone know if its better to keep the crabs in the trap to attrack others or should i take them out after they are in the trapp and store them in another container?

Take them out - they will kill each other.

By the way - just a reminder
Crabs are the trashman of the seas and eat just about anything

Whenever you pull up a dead human body out of water there's always crabs feeding on it

Doesn't bother me, I eat them anyway

We've been using chicken necks for 30 years to get crabs. Started at Amelia Island when we had a place there when I was in HS - would just tie a string around it, put in the water in the marsh, wait a few minutes, and use a net to scoop up dinner. :)

At the Outer Banks, if you ask the head of the meat dept - they have packages of nothing but chicken necks in the back for ya. B)

Freezing them will probably make the meat mushy. :( If you need to save some for later, I'd cook them, remove the meat, and then vacuum pack the meat.
