Is emailing webmasters to promote a program ok? One time mailing. Purchased list.
Does it influence your opinion of that company? How about a personally written email to someone you don't know that well? At what point is it ok to contact someone with a "check out my program" request? |
Colin I personally do not mind, as long as it is a 1 time thing. It seems many programs hammer you - send out 4-5 to your same account, or send out 4 of the same thing in a week....

If it's a list culled from contacts your company or you personally has/have done business with, I don't see a problem with it. There are WAY too many message boards out there to announce things on w/o having to spam webmaster emails of people you've never done business with. From what I can tell, most of the addresses you "buy" end up sending WM's multiple spams to different email addresses. A fast way to tick folks off, if you ask me - which you did. :awinky: And to send ANY spam w/o a way to get off the mailing list is just wrong. |
I'm more annoyed by the spam asking me to buy porn than the ones asking me to sell it. If I get hammered by a company 5 or 6 times on all my accounts and they lie and say I opted in, I will never do business with them. Fuck liars.

I really have no problems with it... I get tons of webmaster spam... I also get tons of porn site, viagra, herbals, real estate, mortgage and all sorts of other spam at various versions of my webmaster addys....
Someof it I look at, some I delete immediately... I have an address or 2 that I use for real business so it doesn't usually get in my way...... and my personal isp assigned addy never gets entered into anything on the net so I get absolutely no spam there... My yahoo addy which is what I enter when I think I might get spammed gets over 250 emails a day and about 249 of them end up in my bulk mail box...lololol.... |
Unsolicited spam goes in the trash can direct and often does the reputation of the spammer.

I have no problem mailing a new program announcment.. or receiving them. In fact since I am a full time webmaster, it's the only kind of spam i respond to.
I could deal with a few less nigerian scams and mortgage offers.. and i could REALLY use a lot fewer webmaster news bulletins... i have unfortunately had to add friends of mine to filter lists cause they think 2-3 "update" emails a week is ok... once or twice a month is good imho... or more frequently if something really special and new comes out... i bitch about those things.......... but send me your new program info any day! I like to see whats coming and whats new :) I do recall one company, gtxcash though that went overboard.. they were mailing huge webmaster lists daily. really pissed off a lot of people. PS.. I'll likely be spamming YOUR inbox (whoever you the reader may be) soon with an unsolicited commercial bulk email promoting our new programs. If you dont like it. Feel free to bash me here or elsewhere. I can take it :D Last edited by Hooper at Jun 12 2003, 02:16 PM |
I don't mind program annoucements.. even to a purchased list but they feel much less effective on me than the ones that come from a program I already know...
Funnily enough the programs that regularly mail for others (and declare it in the email) are the ones starting to shit me... almost better to be not so upfront maybe  Until recently hardly any affiliate programs mercilessly spammed webmasters... GTXcash and Queercash are the only two that immediately come to mind as ridiculously persisitent.. Webmasters might need to start accepting that the herd looks so much like a pack of surfers now we will inevitably be marketed to like the surfers. |
Bidnez is bidnez. Sometimes the exact thing you are looking for comes accross your desk or zaps itself into your email inbox at just the right time.
On a very busy day unsolicited email, just like junk snail mail, goes right in the trash. On days when I am less busy, or on days when I'm buried but don't feel like working, I'll look through it. Part of it is professional curiousity - I used to write business-to-business bulk mail solicitations, and had some pretty good response rates. I think it would be harder to do on the 'net, however. |

Those multi-spamming f*ers though...they need to get slapped! :steemed: |
May he who is innocent cast the first stone....
Dos Tip - Before you start tossing...do you really know who hosts your server? |
