"UK Personal injury claims company, The Accident Group, just sacked 2,500 employees. BUT the fucked up part is that affected employees were notified via TEXT-MESSAGE SENT TO THEIR CELL PHONES. Word is the parent company has gone into liquidation, and there is no money left to pay May's wages. "Last time I check the text on my phone," said one former employee and FC reader."

Sometimes you're the windshield; sometimes you're the bug...

What kind of idiot pays for text messaging on a cell phone? Gee...let me spend an hour typing a message instead of taking 2 seconds to dial the number and actually talk to the person.

This was just on the TV News here in the UK <_< it's a terrible thing to sack so many people using a text message.

This is why I am self-employed and this is why it's cool to be a webmaster, sometimes we forget how lucky we are to be in this biz. :)

Kind of reminds me of the beginning os "Survivors" (Matthau/Williams) where Robin Williams goes into the big board room at the beginning of the movie and gets fired by the CEO's Parrot......

Just thought of this...

They got fired by cell phones... Most Cell phone plans I am familiar with still charge you on both incoming and outgoing.... and extra for text messaging...

So, they not only got fired, it also cost them to get the information....

:awinky:

As fucked as it is being fired via SMS, chances are they didn't have to pay for the privilege of receiving the msg.

If the UK cellphone system is anything like Australia's, you pay for outgoings ONLY, you don't pay for incoming calls or sms. You do pay to retrieve your voicemail on most plans, but other than that you pay for the calls you make and txts you send only. :)

huh?

takes me a few seconds to type 'on my way' or 'can you pick up some milk' ... and it means you don't get caught in small talk that wastes more time than typing the message ... most phones have dictionary's built in these days that guess your next word

the technology we have in australia and uk for sms is awesome ... i don't think usa has picked up much of the technology yet.
