I might be the world's worst driver. Everyone thinks so. It must be true.

Loun 05-22-2003 11:33 AM

Boston has a reputation as well.

For soem reason i love driving there though :)

Almighty Colin 05-22-2003 11:55 AM

I went backwards down a one-way street in Boston once. I stand by my above statement. Do NOT get in a car with me.

Are we talking rudest or worst driving cities?

I would say NY, LA and Miami are up there when it comes to rudest - at least where I have driven, and probably worst drivers as well....

New Orleans definately leads list with WORST drivers... most do not have insurance, and their cars are not road worthy....

Indeed.

I lived in Houston for several months, and then moved to Dallas where I've lived since. Rude drivers in both places...

Not only that, but apparently there's not much funding for driver's ed around here, because people in Houston and Dallas do NOT know how to drive.

The UK to have no insurance and their cars are not road worthy....

But we have road rage and they stab people. :(

SykkBoy 05-22-2003 01:05 PM

Not so much rude, but Vegas has horrible drivers...
mix in the 90 year old senile snowbirds with their 90 foot RV's (the older they are, the longer the RV), the 20 year old rich kids from California driving their Daddylacs, the hick tourists who get easily distratced by water fountains, pirate ship battles, volcanos, etc., the locals who are just trying to get to where they are going as fast as they can (turn signal? whafuck is that?) and the taxi drivers who have become so bad that Nevada is trying to make it mandatory for cab pasengers to wear seat belts and 24 hour alcohol and you have a bad driving cocktail of epic proportions...

and people ask me why I don't drive ;)))

Almighty Colin 05-22-2003 01:54 PM

Seems a lot of people think the drivers where they live are the worst. Maybe that says more about "us" than "them".

DaveM 05-22-2003 02:12 PM

Hands down- Las Vegas. I thought Chicago was bad- till I moved here!

SykkBoy- You forgot to mention the road rage!

voodooman 05-22-2003 02:36 PM

Moscow Russia. Makes NY seem like disneyland.

In the state, NY for the rudest, Miami for the worst(because there are so many old blind people).

Believe it or not, Nashville TN isnt all that friendly either.

Danny_C 05-22-2003 04:09 PM

I lived in Nashville for over 10 years... drivers there are NOT rude... at least, no more than they are anywhere else.

In fact, I moved to Houston FROM Nashville... giant difference.

Buff 05-22-2003 04:24 PM

Mike AI is right: a distinction needs to be made between rude (inconsiderate drivers), and just sucky drivers. But we also need to add in asshole drivers, because there is a difference between just being inconsiderate and going out of your way to piss people off.

Inconsiderate drivers: Miami, hands down. Drivers there are oblivious to the lane markings and just kind of drift back and forth over the white lines on the interstate at whatever speed they see fit to go. They merge by luck.

Bad drivers: Houston, easily. Drivers in Houston do not understand the rules of the road, primarily because they don't read English. They come to complete stops on the interstate before exiting. They make left turns from the right lane. They merge by contact.

Asshole drivers: New Orleans. Turn your blinker on, they block you. Try to merge, they block you. Try to pass, they speed up to block you. They drive slow in the fast lane on purpose to keep you under the speed limit, then they wait til the last second and turn right across 4 lanes of traffic to exit (no blinker). They wait til the last possible second to turn in to make you jam on your brakes, even though if they could have waited for you to go by, as no one was behind you. They merge by force.

hahah, definitely...
that's why even though I have a concealed weapons permit and such, I don't carry my gun with me...I'd be all road raged upside someone's head...LOL

for the freindly law enforcement officers who may be veiwibng this post, I am a total law abiding citizen who always shows courtesy and never flips anyone the bird or calls them a "stupid redneck cocksucker" when they cross two lanes on I-15 to exit to 95 without even looking to see if anyone else is around nevermind actually using a turn signal...

Dave, I'd pop on over to visit you guys once in awhile, but since I'm way out in Henderson, I'd actually have to go across town and it's just too much for me to bear...heheheehhe

Vick 05-22-2003 04:44 PM

Worst drivers - Florida

Everyone is from some place else and bring their native driving style with them. Factor in the blue hair crowd (with the 3 minute long red lights in St. Petersburg) and you have all the elements for horrific driving

Yeah, maybe its just because I ride a motorcycle and I take
getting cut off very serious, and happend to me more riding

Sharpie 05-22-2003 06:31 PM

When we go to shows or hold shows, we always rent a car except ONE place. This is our 3rd time there and we still aren't about to drive there. That place is MONTREAL!. I even close my eyes when Alex picks us up at the airport. The roads are complicated, and the drivers are extremely aggressive. Not a place for the faint hearted.

Forest 05-22-2003 06:37 PM

well if we are talking the world

Jamacia wins hands down

tiny winding dirt road

peice of shit cars

maniac drivers passing eachother at insane speeds

while smoking a spliff

verry scarrrryyyy

Rudest Drivers: New Yahk City

Worst Drivers: Florida (anywhere in the state)

Best Drivers: New Yahk City (They my be rude, but they know exactly where the fuck they are going)

Friendliest Drivers: Kansas City and Northern Cali tie for me

lol... That may be because it is a law in pretty much every state that you have to stop for pedestrians.... Cali actually enforces it though :)

The Plaza here in KC is the same way.....

I just can't imagine you being a bad driver but i'll take your word for it & never get in a car with you lol

however, you can't be the *worst* as my grandfather owns that title ... i told a story in the eulogy at his funeral about this time we did 3 laps of a round-about because he was too scared to exit & the moment i started telling this story the crowd of almost 1000 people all started laughing and nodding along ... he lived in a pretty small town, and the entire town had in some way experienced his driving. He rarely had accidents, but i'm sure if you looked behind the car it would be a pile of other cars who did have accidents to avoid him :biglaugh:

my vote for rudest is new york city, too many cars & not enough room ...

miami has some pretty bad drivers too, all those old, half blind & deaf people who should have given up their license long ago

That is the TRUTH!

i learned to drive on those mean streets and drove a cab and limos there for years

I can drive anywhere in the world where they drive on the CORRECT side of the road

ill never forget the first time i drove outside the us

it was nassau Bahamas i was 16 and on a motor scooter

hadnt even really drove a car and here i am zipping around on the wrong side of the rode

LOL

amazing im still here

cj 05-22-2003 07:43 PM

i fucking hate that place (bahamas)

we hired 3 scooters, 1 of which had a wobbly wheel ... one of our party had a really bad accident, & the scooter company were worried about nothing but their precious scooter while my friend bled on the ground beside it

i've been to the bahamas twice & both times have had bad accidents because of carelessness of the people ... my first experience involved nearly being sucked into the motor of a snorkelling boat because the moron felt it was reasonable to start the boat while there were people swimming around it.

cj 05-22-2003 07:44 PM

their only saving point is that they drive on the CORRECT side of the road

actually if you go to the outer islands of the bahamas its AWESOME

no people small hotels

they have day flight out from here to some of the closer islands

still verry pristine and quiet

cj 05-22-2003 08:24 PM

that's what i was hoping we were doing forest, and we ended up in port lacaya (sp?) on grand bahama island

:barfon:

i have better beaches 30 minutes away!

next time i will plan it all myself so i end up somewhere nice - i hear so many good things about how beautiful the area is & ended up in hell both times i tried to visit ... i have realized though that i'm spoilt when it comes to beaches ... this is the coastline where i live ...

FUCK the bahamas!

Hmm... I see your point. I bet it was a Sunday. I swear, people in the Nashville area are ok to drive around every day except Sunday, and I have no idea why that is. It's wierd.

Atlanta?

No way! We're southern gentlemen! When we get cut off by some clueless soccer mom in traffic we say "fuck you MA'AM!".

Hell Puppy 05-22-2003 11:17 PM

Rudest: NYC -- no contest. only two kinds of drivers there, the quick and the dead.

i once rode with a cabbie who picked me up at a restaurant on the left side of a 4 lane busy one way street and needed to make the right at the end of the block to head for my destination. so after i'm in the car, he holds down the horn, sticks a bird finger out the window and proceeds to scream across all 4 lanes and makes the right hander on two wheels. i kissed the ground when i finally got out back at the hotel.

Toughest to drive in: NYC is first, but San Fran is a close second. The one way streets, hills and the ever present cable car running up your ass ringing that damned bell.

Worst drivers: Las Vegas on the Strip. The cabbies think they're in NYC and the tourists are craning their necks looking at the pretty lights instead of where they're going. Nasty combo. Learn the back streets if you rent a car in Vegas, stay off the strip.
