I've never been in favor of a boycott against French products.
For those who are: There has been a sharp drop in wine imports from France. One importer has said they had a $500,000 drop in sales last month. W.J. Deutsch & Sons noted a 10% drop in sales [$100s of thousands}. W. J. Deutsch noted: "We have seen French wines decreasing. We've seen stores take French wines off the floor of their store. We've seen major chains stop the advertising of French wines in their weekly ads." He reported substantial increases in sales of Italian, Australian and Spanish wines." Many other similar stories reported. |

It is pretty amusing, the French now are all down on themselves, and think they are isolated, and are hurt....
They should have thought of this before hand when they were being blowhards.... Peolple tried to warn them, including Bush. They did not just threaten a veto but they also lobbied other countries NOT to support us ( not only at UN but in actual war where it counts). They also supplied the Iraqis with weapons systems, spare parts for weapon systems, radios, etc.... AFTER the embargos by the UN were put on. Embargos which they voted for, and claimed would put pressure on Iraq! I think we will find out more of their shady dealings as we get paperwork and info from Iraq. Fuck France.... I was thinking of making a trip there within the year... I will go to Italy or Spain instead.... |

i like france though Mike. Paris is really nice and a good place to be. Cannes, Nice and Monaco are really nice areas too. Monaco is really cool. I am going to get an apartment there before the end of summer.
Italy was pretty dissapointing for me. even Rome was. Venice is interesting for about 1/2 a day. Pisa is just a normal city with a little square with a church, another building and a tower that almost fell over. Rome is pretty dirty and crowded, but cool to check out the old stuff. the farther south you go in Italy, i think the worse it gets. I spent some time in Barcelona and i it was pretty cool. Cool to check out all of Goudi's work and architecture. very clean city i thought. |

It's the easily recognizable strong name-brand American products in France that I would worry about them not buying in return.
Coca Cola, McDonald's, Mickey Mouse, Baywatch, Jerry Lewis. Last edited by Colin at Apr 17 2003, 12:44 PM |

wow Serge... it really sucks that we did not see that. looks really amazing.
i think we were going north to Austria from Venice or something and we just stopped there and drove around and walked around. the city itself seemed really ordinary. i knew there had to be cool shit around but i did not have the time to figure it out. for being one of the design and fashion capitols of the world, i thought everything would be trendy, fashionable and cool and every taxi would be a ferrari. thats one of the weird things i noticed about Italy. when it comes to fashion and design.. be it the worlds best sports cars, leather, shoes, yatchs, or anything you can think of, they are top in the world. but the country is basically like a third world country. Coca Cola shares have tumbled recently.
Reasons,I've been told ,disappointing sales (lack of travel, coke is bought by holidaymakers at sporting events etc.) Also I have heard a bright entrepreneur (I think in Egypt) is selling a Cola in direct competition in Arabia with a arab friendly name and marketing program which is making huge in roads on Coke there. The "funny" - funny if it isn't your job, I suppose - thing about the boycott of French products is that the folks who'll pay are the AMERICANS who lose jobs when the companies selling French products in the United States have to start laying off workers.
But it sure is a very cool way of beating your chest and proving how red white and blue you are ... |
Boycotts are great. Doesn't even matter to me who you're boycotting as long as you're doing it for a reason that's important to you.

In response to your condescending tone (chest beating).... It seems to me that if American citizens really believe the French approach puts them in danger, then a boycott is more than just patriotic chest thumping -- but that was a nice attempt to sneak a disingenuous red herring straw man in there, PD. |

companies selling Napa wines will hire those guys ;-)) PD, the end result: France loses, we do not, France doesn't sell anything uniqwue, there is always US or other replacement |
Look, you want to boycott French products - be my guest.
After all, I'm a liberal - we love boycotts, so I'll defend your right to boycott 'til the death. You can boycott grapes, Disneyland, Time-Warner, major league baseball, or bathing for all I care. I, for one, am boycotting business establishments attempting to cash in on the current anti-French hysteria by featuring Freedom Fries, Freedom Toast, etc. I don't really give a fine flying fuck - since I quit drinking about the only French product I'm aware that I use is a friggin' Bic lighter. I supported the war against Iraq and I still have a "condescending tone toward people who think that France believe the French approach puts them in danger," because I don't think there was an immenent danger from Iraq. Danger, yes, but immenent? Gimme a break. And Serge ... France has "lost" if you have an American attention span. We shall see who has lost over the long term. |

Background on our wineries and regions Analysis of our wines by an american - lots of info on individual wines if you click the 'what's in store' link after the intro text spend your money in a country that you know will spend their money wherever you tell them to!!!! :biglaugh: |
You are quite right. That should have read April, 1941.

Hitler attacked Russia on June 22, 1941[/b][/quote] Sigh. Yes, he did. Why, they even learned me that in a U.S. public school, even though we weren't in the war yet. Conversations with the "gloomy" "defeatist" General Staff took place that spring, prior to the attack on Russia. And before the uberpatriots jump to the conclusion I'm comparing Bush to Hitler - I'm not. It's just that I think there are a whole lot of things to shake out before we see what all the implications are to the war in Iraq. |

Oh Fuck!!!!! I forgot and ate French Toast today
Other than that I'm still good and yes I am boycotting products from france and may their Gods bless and keep how they see fit our Australian (and UK) friends Would rather have 2000+ Australian troops and their support than the whole stinky country of france in support (Like france could support anything long term except maybe a fucked brand of socialism) As far as france goes - I would not allow the french to floss with the hair from my sweaty scrotum sack (PLEASE DON'T DO THE VISUAL ..... Awww too late) but for 39.99 USD a minute I might allow the french to floss with the hair from the ballsac of the Forest clone I saw at Cirque Du Soleil tonight :nyanya: If france is fucked in world opinion ... they earned it and deserve it |
anthony, war is the thing where people get killed - that's dead, shot, tortured, buried in the ground and no longer living. its not the superbowl.
do you think the families who now have DEAD sons and husbands and daughters and wives and uncles and aunts would appreciate the football spectator attitude?!?!? you could at least tone the gloating down a little and stop behaving like a drunk football fan on superbowl sunday, and show some sensitivity to those who DIDN'T WIN from this war ... ie, the americans, brits and australians that DIED, and their families who have nothing but 'died for the good of their country' to comfort them. oh and the gloating is premature, being that you still have the hardest part to go. what you do with the next 2 years is the real test. assuming that terrorism & threats to democracy are all over just because 1 country's leader is out of action is a little blind, don't you think? |
