a few days ago, 1000 people in the Democratic Republic of Congo (or whatever they call it this week) were slaughtered in tribal clashes. they used the preferred and traditional means of hacking people to death in their homes with machetes.
where are human shields when they are needed? why dont they care? why doesn't anyone care, much less even notice? why is there a "humanitarian disaster" in Bagdad or Basra and Iraq, yet families being butchered with machetes is just a journalistic annoyance and distraction that doesn't deserve being printed? why is it ok that Black people in Africa can totally butcher each other by the millions and the world is happy to watch? |
No Oil. No geopolitical significance.
What the people in the Congo need to do, is to start a weapons of mass destruction program, and maybe commit some terrorist attacks in the United States. The world is a rough place.... Unfortunately, Africa gets the least amount of attention from the world. JR - Who colonozied the Congo? Which European power? |
Belguim colonized the Congo. They were kicked out in a brutal civil war in the early 1960s.
I heard it mentioned on the BBC. I heard it mentioned on Australian BC. Both of those countries are at war with us in Iraq. I did happen to notice that it flashed across the bottom of the screen on cnn/msnbc, and that other one announced the death toll in a mention that lasted no more than 20 seconds. Even NPR gave it scant coverage. In much of Africa the only nation that seems to give much of rat's ass as to what goes on is not mentionable on this board without the moron brigade breaking out in a frenzy of "most hated nations du jour" bashing and [probably false] claims of wine dumping. |
Why are we always trying to stop genocide? If we'd let it run it's course once in a while, the problem would go away.

Perhaps it's because they're killing each other, rather than an oppressive dictator doing the killing.
Thousands of people die everyday in our ghettos right here in the States, and no one seems to give a shit. |
Colin, a fan of Malthus are you?

it usually takes an army to kill and substantial political support to kill. |

...because there are no tv cameras capturing the action.......

Actually, many DO care; but the people who put the news in front of our faces consider it beneath their notice (can't blame it on Bush/America without implicating themselves). :grrr:
