sarah_webinc 02-05-2003 05:20 PM

nothing to really complain about, my love life is great, I work for a great company, I am working hard on avs stuff (maybe too hard) trying to rebuild my 'empire' and I mostly enjoy it but I have to admit that tonight I really have the 'blah's'.

Nothing on tv perks my interest, hubby is playing music I normally love but that is annoying me too. I don't want to go to bed, it is only 10:30 and plus I have a load more sites to build.

So, anyone have any tried and true methods for shaking the blahs?

sharky 02-05-2003 05:22 PM

when that happens.. you have to force yourself away from the computer for a few days. it always works for me:-)

Mike AI 02-05-2003 05:24 PM

Go shopping, get a lapdance, spend time outdoors, play sports, SEX, more SEX, go out with friends, go to a ballgame, did I mention SEX?

:P

sarah_webinc 02-05-2003 05:30 PM

hubby is under the weather or we would be bonking away..dang colds.

It is pretty hard to get away from the computer in my house..too many of them.

I'm dealing with that right now. I'm trying to plan a trip somewhere. Anywhere. Anyone want me? :bjump:

Seriously, I think I need a change of venue. I was going to go to Amicalola Falls today, but I really need to enter all my credit card/bank crap into Quicken and now it's supposed to snow again tonight. :(

I keep getting those Delta weekly fares where you leave on Saturday and come back on Monday or Tuesday that are dirt cheap, it just always seems there's SOMETHING going on and I can't get away. This weekend and next weekend I have plans

But I'm getting out of here - soon - and I don't care where I go. :okthumb:

T-Rav 02-05-2003 06:12 PM

yep...get out of town...guaranteed to fix the blues...

plus, if i'm not mistaken someone else mentioned...sex :biglaugh:

but it sounds like that may be out of the question for a short while...

if it is a quick fix you need, i suggest going to see a movie by yourself...

originalheather 02-05-2003 06:13 PM

Sarah,

Where do you live? Is it sunny there or dead winter? A lot of times unexplained blahs can be a lack of sunlight.

I wouldn't normally recommend this, but try going to a tanning salon for a few days..the UV light could be what you need.

Also, try using the broad-spectrum lights around where you spend a lot of time. Grow-bulbs for plants should help.

If you are lucky enough to have some sunny days, even if it's a bit cold, get out in the sun for a little while every day, should cheer you right up.

If all else fails, try chocolate :P

Mike AI 02-05-2003 06:19 PM

Sunlight is good, hence me recomending all the outdoor activities...

Gotta get Viatmin K!

I've never been to a movie by myself!! I know it's nuts, but I don't do things well alone  I bet I haven't eaten in a restaurant more than a handful of times by myself and that was only while traveling back in my telecom days.

I'm a social type of gal - I need someone to talk to :agrin:

gigi 02-05-2003 06:29 PM

Isn't it Vitamin D? Regardless....sun is VERY good for you. Good call on the tanning booth Heather, I've done that often.

sarah_webinc 02-05-2003 06:40 PM

I go to the movies by myself all the time, I love it. I'm a movie buff and when I used to work in a cinmea in high school I got spolit by getting to see a lot of movies when I was the only person in the entire cinema. So, I try to go in the middle of the afternoon when I am the only one seeing the movie.

Heather, I live in London. It is cold here now..not as cold as back home but still cold. Really really windy the last couple of days. The kind of wind where you can't wear a hat or it will fly right off.

I am working on BBW sites tonight and I love doing that cause it is my field but I think the problem is that I am in the building stage. When I get to the submitting stage and I start seeing results from them maybe it will feel a little less like a chore than it does at the moment.

I'm sure it will pass, gonna try chilling in bed with a book for a while and see if I can't sleep it off.

Peaches...I used to be the exact same...the idea of eating by myself almost drove me mad...

I have found that doing activities by yourself is very empowering. It gives you a tremendous amount of self respect and confidence.

I like to eat sushi by myself. I like to go to the movies by myself. I like to sit in bars and coffee shops by myself.

The more you do it...the more you want to do things alone.

So, I highly suggest giving it a try. Even if you are the social type.

kath 02-05-2003 07:16 PM

Scented candles are my cure-all....I just grabbed some ginger-peach ones from Pier 1 last weekend and the house smells awesome! :)

But yes...trips are good too...I want to wisk hubby away for a weekend, just the two of us....no kids...and no business. Just ONCE! How cool would that be?

Oh and sex....yes....that's always a good thing. Gotta agree with that one.

:bdance: :bdance: :bdance: :bdance: :bdance:

See, now if I saw you in all these place by yourself, I'd ask you if you wanted to join us :awinky:

I like to do things by myself - outdoor stuff, like hiking, going to the lake (my little one and the big ones) the beach, big mountains, etc. and I HATE shopping with anyone else - I MUST do it alone. I love "playing" tennis with a ball machine (no jokes, please) and hopefully after some beginning lessons from my presently unemployed brother, I'm planning on teaching myself how to play golf this spring.

But eating and movies I have to do with others - who do you "discuss" the movie with afterwards? That's 1/2 the fun :bjump: And whenever I was forced to eat alone, I always had to take a book to read - I can't just sit there and eat - I have to be doing something else...maybe I'm spastic, not social :gbounce:

TheEnforcer 02-05-2003 08:40 PM

Watch the best comedy show ever Fawlty Towers!!!! As a brit I'm sure you know just how damn funny they are!!

I'm with you T-Rav...

I spend a lot of time alone, and for the most part I enjoy it. My hobby is working on projects around the house, and those are things I must do by myself. I get a tremendous amount of satisfaction from a job well done. I like to call it Step 4:

Step 4: Stand back and admire your work. :)

I'm not sure what steps 1, 2, and 3 are, but I do know they involve a lot of cussing, head scratching, and manly tape measure kind of stuff. And when all is said and done I'm a happy camper.

Hmmm... maybe that's why I've been a little down lately. I haven't had anything going on for a while.

Note to self: Go to Lowes on Saturday and walk the aisles until you find a new project. :awinky:

Seriously though, that's what does it for me. :)

Oh, Andruuuuuuuu :inlove: Did you happen to see that I've picked my paint colors for the house? Did you happen to see that getting out of the house would be the perfect way for ME to fight the "blahs"? Are you seeing a PERFECT match here?!!! :bwave:

I leave, you come, paint, get that "Oh, what a feeling! I did something!" oomph, and I come back refreshed, to a colorful home! :okthumb: And if that doesn't get you over the hump, mulching the flowerbeds would be acceptable :)

Just do something spontaneous and fun... Cant cause stress if you dont have time to think about it, so you're forced to just go with the flow, have fun and hopefully relax a little in the end.

I have been known to take someone out for steak....and head for Berns Steakhouse (Tampa). Now that's probably no big thing for say, Sharky. But I'm in Atlanta...heheh. That type of thing works well for Airtran towns....you can just walkup and get a decent business class seat without spending an insane amount of money.

A good wintertime getaway is drive north til you find snow. Follow the appalachains and you'll usually hit paydirt before too long. If not, drive faster....mountain roads are fun...heh... But then you're already there...

Or if snow isn't your thing....point the car in a random direction and drive til you hit beach. Though unless you have a lot of time to invest, I strongly suggest northern and westerly directions... :awinky:

VooMan 02-05-2003 11:09 PM

Peaches, Peaches, Peaches...

I've got paint picked out as well, maybe you can paint my place while I paint yours? You get away for a few days, I get away for a few days, and you finally get to discover the joys of Step 4. B)

And please... I know it's better for the plants to have mulch, but I've spent a fortune on lava rock. I never have to mulch again!

Peaches...my house needs painting and it's sunny and warm here. Guest room facing the ocean, maid service and great cooking.

When can you get here? :P

Uh, Heather & Andrew - do the two of you see where I mentioned ANY WHERE at ANY TIME where painting was relaxing FOR ME??! :zoinks:

Now, beach, maid, cook...that sounds like a deal! I'll bring Andrew and he can paint while we lounge.

And A - my dogs would never forgive me if I put down lava rock :awinky:

A man after my own heart - I don't want to count the times I've just hopped in the car and driven until I found something I liked. In fact, if it doesn't ice up like they keep threatening, I'll probably do that Sunday after I grit my teeth through my Friday and Saturday obligations. :okthumb:

You can always cheer yourself up how I am right now...not what you're thinking ;)

find a copy of Bill Hicks' "Revelations" cough*kazaalite*cough
One of the funniest comedians of all time, taken way before his time, just as he was rising to the top....he did the spceial "Revelations" for HBO and it's one of the funniest things ever produced for them...

his threories of MC Hammer not really being a good dancer, those moves are from satan's cum eating the lining of his stomach, how the US is kind of tlike Jack Palance in "Shane" and his take on the movie "Basic Instinct" are funny as shit...

for some instant cheer, check out anything from Bill Hicks...if he were alive today, there's no doubt he'd be one of the top comedians out there (although he'd probably never clean up his act for television ;)

you need sunshine! i was in London last week and it was raining, cold, snowing and icky.

London is very cool though :okthumb:

i also noticed that people seem to be getting along just fine with socialized medicine, intergration of church and state and an economic model that believes in more government interferrence that in the US

i can honestly say, i've never had the blahs....ever.

perhaps 'cause i do some of the things mentioned above, like
regular sunlight, new adventures, etc., plus i'm extremely
self-entertained. :cdance:

Raya 02-09-2003 12:00 AM

I fight them every day, at least it seems that way. Right now my life is in flux. I'm looking for work, I will be moving in the spring, my sites are still in the growing stages. My relationships are over the place. At least when spring comes it will be easier to deal with :P For now I just keep working.

Hahaha..I knew it. This thing is mega-expensive, but maybe you can figure out what kind of bulbs they are and rig up your own. :D

RawAlex 02-11-2003 03:10 PM

Heather, good point - if you got the blahs, make sure you get some sun time... open the blinds, move the shutters, whatever... make sure you can get some sunlight into your rooms and into your workspace. If you work in a closed office or whatever, take a couple of good breaks a day and get some sun on your face... it will recharge you very quickly.

Fresh air is just about as important - if you work at home, make sure your air conditioner and forced air heat system filters are clean and fresh. Make sure there is enough humidity in the air where you work. All things that make your body and brain happier, and create a better productivity...

A little Feng Shui never hurt, either. :awinky:

Alex

sarah_webinc 02-11-2003 09:57 PM

air conditioning? I don't think the British know what it is.
