Well I have been having a major issues with ferral pigs down where I live. There is a group of about 20+ wild pigs that have been tearing up my yard, rooting around for things to ear. They are a big menace... I have seen them a few times coming home, even once I fired on them with my handgun... which did no good.

So some coon-asses from down the road asked if they could hunt on my property, I told them no problem.... their first night they nailed one.

I missed the fun last night, though I could hear them firing and saw them chasing the pigs across my yards.

I think I may join them tonight, after the b-ball game...

Anyone want some fresh pork?

:okthumb:

Get someone out there to help you round them up, take them to the slaughter house, freeze them and have a big ass BBQ this spring.

I was driving from labelle (just above the Seminole Reservation - It was dusk, I looked over and standing next to road was the biggest fattest boar I ever saw. He just stood there like he was saying. "Just try fucking with me."

I have noticed a lot more boar and wild pigs this year. Do you think it may be the cold driving them out more looking for food?

Peaches 02-03-2003 04:38 PM

Eeek! I think I'd pretty much pee on myself if I went out at night and faced one of those :zoinks: How close to the house will they come?

Dianna Vesta 02-03-2003 04:39 PM

lol- Peaches you should see the huge indigo and black racers (snakes) that crawl across my place early in the AM!

I'm just glad to see them because they EAT rattlesnakes.

T-Rav 02-03-2003 04:45 PM

That looks like fun Mike!

be careful for those "coon asses"...run like hell if you hear the words, "squeal like a pig"...

Mike AI 02-03-2003 04:48 PM

Peaches they come into my gardens that are at the house, though lately they have been rooting up near the road by the trees.

Dianna, I know those guys will be butchering the hog, and using the meat.... they are real coon-asses.... and yeah T-Rav if they say I have a PURTY mouth, I will run quickly!

Peaches 02-03-2003 04:57 PM

Snakes I can deal with - they aren't face to face :)

Michael - what about the dogs? Will they bother them, or will they stay away? All we have "big" are the deer and bear, but they're more afraid of us than we are of them - those things you have don't look like they're afraid of much

Dueling banjos

Mike AI 02-03-2003 05:01 PM

One thing I do worry about Peaches is the dogs, especially since my dogs are very curious. I would not want them to get attacked by the hogs... who can be very dangerous and protective of their young.

That is another reason we are hunting them, to not only protect my gardens from looking like it has been attack by artiliery.... but also to make sure no people or animals get hurt...

Since they are running around the entire section of New Orleans where my property is....

Peaches 02-03-2003 05:07 PM

Yeah, I'm guessing my "Lil' Buckaroo" 22 rifle that I have next to the door for snakes would be pretty ineffective against one of those things :(

Kill those suckers and we'll have a big BBQ :gbounce:

Oh, and Deliverance was actually filmed right around where Wig and I live - I think that's why he wanted to move up here......... :okthumb:

Mike AI 02-03-2003 05:08 PM

Peaches, if I go out tonight after the game, I will be looking for the smaller piglets... they are the tastiest! :yowsa:

PornoDoggy 02-03-2003 05:33 PM

Lived in a rented trailer out in the boonedocks in Maine while I was in the Navy, and was having a problem with my trash getting knocked over and torn apart at night. Heard the trash can go over about 2am, charged out onto the little 4x4 wooden porch carrying a softball bat clad in my underwear, and came face to face (at a distance of about ten yards) ...

with a moose. A BIG fucking moose.

I went quietly back into the trailer.

Um.. in a word... NO! lol

I've seen BlackPowder shots bounce off those ugly things.. they have some damn effective armor plating around their vitals!

They are not too bright, and their eyesight sucks, so getting close to em is not a big problem.. I've hunted them a few times with my bow.... they ARE tasty little buggers tho!

Mike.. be sure to get some made into sausage.. it's great on the grill! ;-)

They will definately fuck up a dog. I've seen them chase people like they wanted to rip them to shreds. If you see the ones with tusk and HUGE ass teeth, you'd know they were quite capable.

It's really not so much fun hunting when they hang out around you but it's a shame to waste food. Maybe you can work something out or turn it in a fund rasier of some sort. All the coon-asses will do is freeze it and eat it anyhow.

I have a 20 gauge rem shot-gun that my dad gave me over 25 years ago. It still shoots like charm, really straight. There isn't get distance but not to bad. Certainly enough to bring a pig down or a nasty ass foul talking man.

Gabriel 02-03-2003 07:01 PM

What part of that thing does the McRib come from?

gigi 02-03-2003 11:43 PM

I had wild boar for Thanksgiving one year....I didn't like it. It is very 'stringy' and the meat is surprisingly sweet! Nothing I would have expected from meat.....weird stuff....

And yes, I've eaten (and still do eat) alot of wild meat...mostly deer, moose and bear....Deer is my favorite...

I'd much rather eat wild meat than the stuff from Safeway....at least you know they aren't pumped up with steroids and antibiotics and you KNOW what they've been eating...lol

:awinky:

Mike AI 02-03-2003 11:48 PM

Yeah I wonder how wild boar tastes, its been awhile since I had some, and it was not much. Though I think it matter which part of the pig you ear. The loin is probbaly much more tender....

Also there are some smaller, younger ones running around... I bet they are tastier....

*KK* 02-04-2003 01:06 AM

OK, this is fucking funny as hell and right on target with the piggies ;)

HAHA Wild Pigs are scary - but make good TV! haha

Rabid Boars!!

They are big and mean!

kath 02-04-2003 01:55 AM

I was thinking the same thing Peaches - lol

I'd be worried about the pets...and the kids....and of course myself. Those are pretty scary looking pigs. I don't think I'll feel bad the next time I eat bacon. *shudder*

I keep forgetting that there's still a "wild" out there where these things roam.

Dianna - snakes? Ick! In the desert we have a lot of snakes, but I'm in a well-developed area of about 10-11 years so we don't see too many wild things here. *thank goodness* I would definitely pee my pants seeing a snake (or one of those boars!) on my front porch.

Billy 02-04-2003 07:47 AM

I remember a few weeks ago I was walking in my lot and I heard a noise and turned around and a big rabbit jumped from under a pile of limbs, scared the shit out of me, I now have to worry about pigs : (

I am going to stay inside from now on :)

I hear you. I'm going to raise my own chickens and beef because it's too damn scary.

I eat a lot of wild meat and fish. There's a trick to it. I always soak it in whole milk for a while. I'm not exactly sure why but it works. My mom taught be that.

Also, wild boar is best cooked outside on wood then add spicy BBQ sauce.

Sometimes game isn't fat enough.

The whole milk thing is interesting DV...I'll have to try that. I think the most important part of preparing wild game is the 'aging' time....the more the better. I know my husband lets his game hang for a couple of weeks at least before he gets it cut up....it seems to make it more tender...

Some game (in fact most that I've dealt with) is far from fat enough...lol. I hear ya!

Usually when I do deer roasts I'll sear it, and then wrap it in bacon first....holds the juices in, and adds some....then a little wine added, onions, garlic and other herbs and it's good to go!

Mmm, i'm hungry now.... :P

I was always tought to "bleed" vension in water for several days, changing the water out every day.

And no good southern woman would dare fry her chicken w/o it sitting in a milk bath (preferably buttermilk) for at least a day :agrin:

Peaches I love you!

Can I send Katie over for a few months for some training? :awinky:

Just because I know HOW to do it, doesn't mean I actually DO it. :okthumb: One of the biggest mistakes I make is cooking for someone and they find out I can do it, lol! I'd much rather hop in the car and go out - or make a snack B)

We can send her to my Mom's! That woman is amazing - you can't stand to be around her for more than 10 minutes, but damn, she can cook southern. Her pastry will flake into 20 different layers. Whenever we want a recipe we have to find a family member that's still talking to her and see if they can get it from her - we swear she changes ONE THING in it though :P

But after marrying one Yankee and almost marrying another, I can honestly say, there's a big "food divide" that isolates our little Southern States, lol! I bet Katie thinks green beans should be crunchy and you put sugar in iced tea AFTER it's poured! :zoinks:

Mike AI 02-04-2003 04:40 PM

Peaches there is a divide between North and South when it comes to food.... but in New Orleans I think it is even larger.

One thing NO is blessed with, and one reason why I never seem to be able to lose any weight....
