For those that think there is a rubber stamp congress and that the "evil Republicans" will have their way no matter what, I would like to present the following example of checks, balances, and the American Way:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Saying they feared government snooping against ordinary Americans, U.S. senators voted on Thursday to block funding for a Pentagon (news - web sites) computer project that would scour databases for terrorist threats.

By a voice vote, the Senate voted to ban funding for the Total Information Awareness program, under former national security adviser John Poindexter, until the Pentagon explains the program and assesses its impact on civil liberties.

....

"This makes it clear that Congress wants to make sure there is no snooping on law-abiding Americans," Wyden told Reuters after the vote.

Thanks Colin...

That was a ridiculous idea anyway...they had to realize that...

The checks and balances has worked very well...and I imagine it will continue to work well...

Colin that sucks.
stating facts that are grounded in reality is not nearly as colorful and stirring as just dancing around the fire and chanting "Republicans are coming to kill your first born male child, so fear your Government"

:bjump: :bdance: :bdance:

Good post Colin.

I saw this on the news, I am glad the repubs and dems are against it for now anyways.

Thanks to Sen. Wyden of Oregon for being a leader in this effort!!!

My telephone is tapped right now.
For weeks everyone I talk to was
complaining about this awful noice
on their end. I couldnt hear anything
and last night I talked to my attorney
and he told me to call the phone company
and see if something was wrong with
the line. Well, I woke up this morning
and called the phone company, well
what do you know, the noise is gone.
So I called my attorney back, he said
ahh they fixed the line huh? I said nope,
I just called the phone company, nothing
was there. Then I heard a click, click, and
he said, your phones tapped.
hahahahahah, what the fuck would they want
to tap some poor guy in Oklahoma for?

Maybe Im paranoid!!! But I have nothing to be
paranoid for.

gigi 01-24-2003 02:39 PM

hahahaha Voodoo...remind me never to call you to talk about my over the border drug deals. :awinky:

You'll get used to it....my best friend is an attorney and she lives with a criminal defense lawyer....their phone is tapped in case one of his clients decides to spill the beans to him while on the phone. :zoinks:

It's all for the good of your country.....now...what haven't you told us hmmmm??? :nyanya:

[edited for spelling mishap] ;)

Near as I can figure, I was running this hotel/bar/rest
and one of the waitresses and her boyfriend whom is
the maint. man got arrested on drug charges one day.
Well, just so happend, they dont have a vehicle, so
I picked them up at thier house the day before.
I can see how that would look kindof suspicious, but
come on.

I beg them to raid my house, hahaha, I'll own this fucking
piece of shit town I live in.

voodooman 01-24-2003 06:54 PM

Ok, It seems I was just paranoid. My phone is not tapped and
the CIA has no interest in me so gigi , we can continue
our drug deal talks on the phone.
