Guess it's true. I am supposed to go to NYC over Thanksgiving.. Do you guys think I should be worried? We plan to do the typical tourist things... Will NYC be a target again as suggested in the recent letter from Al Queda? |
:ttth!: I wouldn't be.
|
As Al Pacino said in the movie Heat....
You can get killed walking your doggie! |

nice line I picked up on TV, USA is the only country where people expect nothing bad to happen.. the rest of the world expects the worst to happen and is rare disapointed ;-))) but on the other hand, I am from Al Pacino's school and be going to NYC on the 5th |
Yes, True...
However, I like to be a bit overprotective of my wife and daughter. It's better to exercise too much precaution than non-enough! |
Sharky, I went to NYC last fourth of July... Friends and family of mine were worried... but I went anyway. Fuck living in fear.
As it turned out, there was an attack at the El Al ticketcounter in L.A... What if I had gone to Disneyland instead? Go to NYC and have a great time, don't let 12 dead scumbags make you change your plans. |

for a measely $5000 I can put you in touch with the BEST protector of all times.. Spanker himself! Last I heard he has a bunker for sale somewhere in Rocky Mountains and it's fully Y2K compatable with 5 years supply of toilet paper... |
sharky,
If in doubt...chicken out. :( |

bad advice...I beleive THE ONLY way to protect oneself is to get rid of ALL earthly posessions and clear up one's soul (alond with the wallet) my soul is lost anyway, so, I'll be delighted to carry the burden of all the people who chose to follow my advice and get rid of it all... sorry, we can't take private planes at the moment.... |
Serge - If you can't handle carrying all those wallets, I'd be MORE than glad to lend a hand... :awinky:

"nice line I picked up on TV,
USA is the only country where people expect nothing bad to happen.." That's funny that you mention this, Serge...I was struck by the same line last night...and then I thought.. How true is that REALLY? I mean..I have never noticed the people of Canada to be particularly anxious about being attacked or injured in some manner... What doom drops down on the people of Mexico frequently enough that they lie awake at night? I think this theory depends on what you expect "bad to happen" means... US citizens prolly don't expect to have their head chopped off by warriors from the next tribe, but most Iraqi's prolly don't wake up in the morning to find their retirement just got Enron'd... It would be interesting to measure the relative stress levels of nations...I'm sure it's been done....Colin? |
The US is probably the most stressed of all the nations, but stressed out for all the wrong reasons.
People in volitaile regions wake up every morning happy to be alive. Americans wake up every morning and wonder if they're gonna be able to make their Benz payment. We, as Americans, take certain basic freedoms for granted, lots of countries are still fighting for their freedom and saftey, we just happen to be 250 years ahead of them in that department, give them another 250 years and they'll worry about the same shit. Or maybe not, how long have some of these countries been fighting? Centuries, Melliniums, Forever? |
well,
those are BAD signs, gentlemen, "Progress leads to Regress" (--C Darwin) are we as a nation too complacent? |
There's no doubt, we're seriously spoiled.
Just one of the reasons "I'm proud to be an aMERican" ;) |

It is quite amusing to see it all:-) |

Serge - I don't think the US is complacent at all. Read GFY and the so many Eurpeans complaining about the opposite.
Jim - My guess is it hasn't been done. Problems: Defining stress, measuring stress, and getting enough research money to do this all over the world. |

Personally I am happy Bin Laden is alive. I hope he keeps running his mouth. We in the US are poor at remembering history, and move on to things quickly.
We have to stay focused in this long term war against terrorism, it will not be won in a few years, but rather decades. So the more Bin Laden runs his mouth, the more we can focus on OUR NATIONAL SECURITY. Infact I hope we do not finish of Bin laden until we get the majority of his network... and then finish him off. It is not bin laden but his thousands of followers and those who wish us harm... So keep flapping your lips Binny Boy... we will be looking for you and your friends! :snipe: |
I'm be in NYC december 20 through 22ncd. I have Conan O'brien tickets on
the 20th so I'm going unless there is some kind of terrorist attack between now and then. How much $ will you guys donate if I yell out OPRANO ROCKS during the monoluge? B) :rokk: :bwave: |
Nov 1st, 2001 right after 9/11 I had to fly to LA to assist a shoot for a commercial for a non-adult client. I tired like hell to move it. I was worried.

I don't think they'll hit New York again, personally, but that is a most unscientific hunch.
I kind of think the next big attack will be against American troops in Afghanistan. Frankly, that's where we are most vulnerable. |

I love NYC... and hope to make it back soon!
One thing I miss about CitySoap - back in the day I was going to Manhatten monthly.... its a wonderful place! Center of the world! :) |

"Ben Laden is alive"...And i got a hunch he's hiding in Bagdhad...
Seems like Hussein is up to something. He's deliberately provoking us in the no-fly zone. :snipe: |
Why - besides wishful thinking - would you assume that bin Laden is in Baghdad?

Pakistan is my bet for bin Laden. Everyone assumes that he has a fleet of private planes or whatever, but really it is extremely difficult to even get cross-continent when you're public enemy #1. For fence-sitting muslims a single tip to the military could net them $10 mil or whatever they're offering, already Afghan villagers have cooperated beyond what we expected.
The length between his communications suggests to me he was in deep hiding for quite awhile, with no good access to a full media studio (he'd want to block out background noise in the tape to prevent any tips to his location.) Personally this whole situation weirds me out, from Saddam's reticence and strange behavior to our incompetence in the hunt for terror suspects. The world is growing smaller by the way with high speed everything, shouldn't this be a bit easier? C. |
Why? Recently, another notorious terrorist 'committed suicide' in a hail of machine-gun fire there. My guess is that ben Laden gave the order. No evidence, just a hunch.
