I was thinking about something over the weekend.. Gonzo and I will always have lots of work to do. We have a limited amount of time to dedicate to the board and occasionally we go out of town.

What would you regular posters think of the idea of having moderator access that would allow you to ban, delete, and edit pretty much anything or anyone. You wouldn't have to ask our permission you would only have to see a situation that you don't like. You handle it.

This would not be a paid position.. I hate that shit. You don't have to be here all the time.. In fact we might give this access to 20 or more people. I figure there will always be atleast one of you around to deal with stuff that doesn't lend itself to a pleasant environment.

I'm not just talking about the old timers when I ask you guys about this.. if there are some newbies that are making money in this industry and you have a level head.. I see no reason why you couldn't deal with agressive posters.

Note if you have a history of being an aggressive poster you can immediately exclude yourself. The goal is to have responsible moderators that pay attention to what the community has a whole wants. If a moderator doesn't like what they see and people are complaining to them then your toast.

I figure if a big chunk of you have moderator access this place would be more peaceful and you would all feel more comfortable.

I haven't talked about it but there are some changes coming to Oprano. Some things that will be useful to the entire adult industry not just the webmasters. Once the new features have been launched they will either become powerful tools very quickly with user support or they will become
powerful tools slowly because we end up doing all the work. It doesn't make any difference to me how it plays out because the site will always be here, growing slowly or quickly but always growing.

Ok I need opinions.. post here or contact me on icq - 33840775 and give me your thoughts. We may or may not do this.. I want everyones opinion right now. There would be some simple rules and moderators would be held to a higher standard but nothing major.

I can see what you mean and understand what you are going for. That said, onne of my big worries is that mod status would be abused and any little thing that gets under someone's skin get deleted or modified. One of the MMORPG terms for PvP play is a "carebear" environment where tough situations causes people to be overly sensitive. Trying to keep the line between still being able to offer the frank assessments and such that oprano is known for while still being able to attract new webamsters and a "carebear" environment where frank exchanges of ideas and such is taken away might be a hard dance to do with such a set-up. Just something to think on.

It isn't how much someone makes that matters.. it is how much someone makes me that matters. Everyone should have the same opinion. I'm not concerned with the financial status of the industry people who hang out here. It means nothing to my daily life.

If someone makes $30k a month good for them. Unless I make money off them it doesn't matter. I make money from a healthy community that the opinions of the masses are more important than the opinions of the few.

Valid point.. The moderators would be held to a higher standard. There would be two ways to get in trouble around here.. create an unfriendly environment and abuse admin power. Think of the moderator access as a very large gun. When the trigger has been pulled you had better have a good reason to have done it. Do I expect people to abuse it? Absolutely! Do I think they could make this place worse than what we see it from time to time? NO.

I would rather this place self regulate.

I don't think it woulkd be a good idea to have 20+ people moderating a board that only have 20 new threads a day

but I think the idea that regular responsible posters have mod status is a good idea, and that is the way most boards work. To be honest, I have only seen 1-2 threads (*cough* nick :P) in the past month that I would even consider deleting, and even then I would be hesitant just because I amo not a guy that likes to rock the boat anymore...LOL

I know a few mainstream/porn surfer boards around that have regular members with mod status, it is not an uncommon thing

People who are new to the industry are bad? People who are established money makers in this industry but not as big as you are bad? I don't think so. What some of the old timers think of as morons, and newbies, are making a living doing this type of work.

When you stopped to think about it even you said you would be hesitant. I don't think something like this would be abused as badly as we could imagine. I think those who could would give serious consideration on if they should. There might be some discussion on the topic. I don't for a moment assume that I am the best person to make a decission like that. I'm not as active as some others are. I'm simply one of the caretakers of a site that has a history worth remembering.

More members.. Oprano has been picking up alot of new users lately. It is growing very well.. better than many other sites that reach the same market right now. Ad revenue.. it is doing well enough to pay the bills. Do I have higher expectations? Absolutely.

Counter Productive.. maybe.. that is why I posted it to get opinions. I want to know what others think about the idea. I've not made my mind up on it at all.

Free Market.. there are limits in my opinion.

There will only ever be ONE GFY. It is unique and I wouldn't even consider trying to duplicate something like that.

Community radio.. it served its purpose. People like you are still talking about it. The goal of the radio was for people to say AEBN. It was a massive success. It lived the life it was suppose to lead and did its job.

Honestly I'm much more inclined to have the older crowd around only because I know them better. However there are some new faces that seem pretty responsible in REAL life.

The only reason I bring it up in this thread is to highlight another "community" type of enviroment you want to expand on that you haven't thought would entail manpower, money, and most of all profit wise.

I can only think of one radio show format that makes money, and they broadcast out of our office space.
