Interesting post on blog about Iraq and war on terrorism.

Please try to wrap your brains around this. I think JR will be able to handle it. But the liberals of Oprano might have their delicate sensibilities warped. |

Re: Interesting post on blog about Iraq and war on terrorism.
Life is easy when you start with a conclusion, however convoluted, and produce graphics to support it.
The Agnewian phrase "pseudointellectual" was the first thing that came to my mind when I looked at that malarky ... |
Re: Interesting post on blog about Iraq and war on terrorism.
PD, you don't get it because you have not
studied singular semialgebraic, subanalytic and complex analytic sets from a metric viewpont. Each connected set of these types can be considered as a metric space with different natural metrics. The most interesting metrics are induced (euclidian) metric and intrinsic metric. A set is called normally embedded if these two metrics are bi-Lipschitz equivalent. The main result of the talk is the following : Every closed semialgebraic set is intrinsically bi-Lipschitz equivalent to some normally embedded semialgebraic set. This result does not admit a complex analog. We present an example of a complex analytic set which is not intrinsically bi-Lipschitz equivalent to any normally embedded complex analytic set. Do you see how simple this chart really is??? |

Krystal may have or not said it, but I know this is one of the old man's sayings. Come on, who did we always burn for repeating other people's stories?! Who bought a prowler? Who do you idiolize?! :):):) |

Re: Interesting post on blog about Iraq and war on terrorism.
i would agree with his reasoning completely. peace is only (and always has been) nothing more than the downtime between wars. as long as their are kids who get raped or don't get a puppy for christmas or whatever, there will always be those who grow up to be cunning and charismatic sociopaths/psychopaths bent on causing as much pain, death and destruction as possible. or there will always be those "have nots" (either percieved or otherwise) who will lash out as well as a natural biological and genetic function of simple protecting our own DNA in fulfilling the primary mission of any living organism.
they will always find enemys and they will always rally others to their cause and there will always be a fight. its very strange to me that people, after witnessing thousands of years of war, refuse accept that as a fact of life. "There's some key assumptions going into this: 1. There isn't enough time to let the MidEast evolve into a democracy on its own before somebody cooks up a megadeath attack. 2. America doesn't have the willpower to maintain an empire. 3. Staying on the offensive will keep terrorists from launching a major attack against the US. 4. Islamofascism is powerful and agressive enough that we can't coexist with it. I favor "Gunpoint Democracy" as the option that gives us the best chance of getting the best outcome, and gets us as far as possible from the worst. Given that strategy we've got to start somewhere. Iraq (for many good reasons) was it." |
Re: Interesting post on blog about Iraq and war on terrorism.
It is difficult to take seriously anyone who is capable of making the statement "Staying on the offensive will keep terrorists from launching a major attack against the US."

The UK were actively on the offensive but suffered an attack....
So that bit is fundamentally and proven to be flawed. |

besides, i don't think many will agree that there are many parallels in what the US does domestically and abroad to combat terrorism and what Britain does. Britain did not overhaul their government as the US did, did not expand the poweres of government etc etc. how long did it take the Brits to kick captain hook out? how many people were actively preaching Jihad, recruiting and funding terrorism OPENLY in Londonistan long AFTER 9/11? |

good article
this is what i've always siad ""we've got to start somewhere. Iraq (for many good reasons) was it." the plagiarised my posts from this board |

huh? please explain to the class how YOU think this cohesion/organizational structure that existed pre 9/11 was all but completely demolished post 9/11. that is the point. my right wing, bobble head, misguided brain thought it was because the US led a full frontal assualt on terrorism world wide. maybe you think it was magic elves that brought these changes about ? maybe you think some other country was taking the lead in taking action? are you saying no terrorist attacks have been thwarted post 9/11 in the US? no cells broken up? that post 9/11 offensive tactics and a proactive stance are not working? hate to break it to you, but the fact of the matter is that no attacks have happened. thats a fact. thats not right wing propaganda to annoy liberals... its a fact. |
Re: Interesting post on blog about Iraq and war on terrorism.
I don't dispute the fact that no attacks have happened. As a result of 9/11 a lot of things happened, and a lot of the things that happened are part of the reasons that no subesquent attack has happened.
Where I think the bobbling of your head has damaged your brain is the attempt to tie the war in Iraq to the war on terror. |

Specifics? Afghanistan. Efforts on our behalf/at our behest by Pakistan, Indonesia, and a lot of other places. None of which has anything to do with Iraq, which has probably diverted resources that would have been better expended fighting the alQaidas of the world.
I have no doubt that some of the domestic efforts undertaken have also thwarted terrorism. I am admittedly skeptical about anything the Administration has attempted to claim credit for, because the press conference ballyhoos has generally turned out to be smoke and mirrors. I can only hope that a lot has gone on in the shadows, where it belongs. I do not believe - and I'm pretty sure you know this already - that the war in Iraq has done anything to make America safer. In fact, I think the long term effects will be the opposite. I think a whole lot of other folks agree with me, and they ain't all Cindy Sheehans. Awful lot of retired star-studded shoulders speaking out lately - and that should speak a lot louder than a million Sheehans, Moores, Striesands, et al. |
Re: Interesting post on blog about Iraq and war on terrorism.
Kids, its only been five years. That is nothing. You actually think this administration is protecting the US? Tick tick tick tick. Fuck all the rhetoric. The muslims are very patient.
I also hear the crowing of a lot of armchair generals who gladly send their neighbours kids off to fight and die so they can continue to drive their Escalades. It is viet nam all over again but much more dangerous. "Some folks inherit star spangled eyes, Ooh, they send you down to war. And when you ask them, "How much should we give?" They only answer "More! More! More!" |

Re: Interesting post on blog about Iraq and war on terrorism.
PD... try to focus. with me, you singled out a simple remark "Staying on the offensive [against terrorism] will keep terrorists from launching a major attack against the US". nothing more. thats it. thats all. thats what you and i were talking about. it had nothing to do with whether or not ms piggy and kermit will ever do another tv special. it was about an offensive stance on "terrorism" and "major attacks" against the USA. and I will say it again... post 9/11, the USA has adopted a VERY offensive stance on terrorism and post 9/11 there have been NO successful attacks against the USA.
there is just nothing to argue there... and thats all i have been saying. |

"the USA has adopted a VERY offensive stance on terrorism and post 9/11 there have been NO successful attacks against the USA."
The success of this strategy clearly depends on if there has been a serious attempt contemplated. It could very well still be in the planning stages. In which case, this aggressiveness could just be a drain on resources setting the stage for the big one. You remember rope a dope don't you? |

I do not think JR is a neo-con. Neo-con's think that people in the middle east can form some kind of civil, democratic society.
