gonzo 04-26-2005 06:34 PM

Seems someone got a little drunk and started forcing himself on the girls at a recent show. If he was representing your company would you fire his ass?

JoesHO 04-26-2005 06:36 PM

Looks like the old demon alchol has struck again...

Newton 04-26-2005 07:00 PM

If there was proof and complaints as to behaviour and drunken nature, then without a doubt.

Trev 04-26-2005 07:12 PM

Damn right I would!

Getting tanked is one thing but getting tanked and harassing women isn’t acceptable or good company PR.

TheEnforcer 04-26-2005 07:29 PM

Hahahah.. love the poll options!! Classic...

We've tried firing Gabe for getting drunk and feeling up all the guys, but he's a Mexican, in California.....need I say more?

RyanLanane 04-26-2005 07:59 PM

I think it would depend alot on other factors... Such as how drunk was he ... Was he being unprofessional... Did you tell him not to get drunk.... The list goes on. There would be alot of variable to take in prior to an automatic firing.

I haven't been to a show in oh like 6 years and it was the only one I went to but from what I hear these shows can get pretty crazy in some circumstances and to be honest - a Rep who knows hwo to party and liven up the party is an asset as long as he isn't pushing the lines...

*KK* 04-26-2005 08:01 PM

The kid didn't get fired, though, he went back home and then resigned.

People do stupid things at shows, we all have our moments... that was pretty bad, but I'm not entirely sure what I'd have done about it were I his boss.

Shoving tounge down throat... Pushing the limits?

I wasn't there, but that's the reports.

I like Rinaldo, I've never seen him drunk. I feel for everyone invloved, on a personal note I know firsthand how binges and addictions can affect one personally, and professionally.

Hopefully this is a wakeup call for him.

Nickatilynx 04-26-2005 08:16 PM

Dunno him...but I'm sure I've done worse.

Everyone fucks up.

To err is human , to forgive , divine :)

However as Ant says this is a wake up call , some listen to the alarm and turn there lives around.Others don't.

If it was my rep ( and I say this now that I'm clean and sober of course) I'd chat with him (ie coat him to within an inch of his life ) and offer options.

Option 1. Stop drinking continue employment , with every help an assistance.

Option 2. Continue being a drunken bum , leave the corp and hope he nevers serves me at Mickey D's.

However...

In 2001 I prolly would have appointed him to the board ;-))

Difference is , and I know this to be true....drunk and partying income = $0.00 if your lucky...its actually negative...

Clean and sober , frankly , you can OWN this industry.

:)

ThrobX 04-26-2005 08:23 PM

Personally, if I had a rep who did the above, I'd give him two options. They'd be:

1) You resign.

or

2) I fire you.

No excuse. Why is this industry any different than other industries? Sure, we have a hefty contingent of "webmasters" who belong to the Zoo Crew and aren't really in this as a business. That doesn't mean that the businesspeople amongst us don't have to conduct themselves as businesspeople.

Give me a fucking break. I've seen so many people at shows and show parties that I immediately made mental notes about, to the effect of "do not ever work with or hire that guy/girl."

<_<

so many circumstances

Vick 04-26-2005 09:10 PM

Am going to guess this was a kid

Good rule of thumb, if you're there as a rep for a company you don't own
Don't get DRUNK in public

Would I fire him?
Most likely but not for that reason

But I do also like the line of thinking, either go to AA or rehab or get fired

With all due respect, I prefer the line of thinking of "welcome to your first day at work, here are the rules, 1) doing anything that brings bad rep upon my business will get you fired." Stuff like that needs to be laid out upfront.

I guess working for me would be a real "buzz kill," as the kiddies say. :grrr:

In this business there are tons of very very talented people who , frankly, are fucking loopy as fuck. LOL

Its the nature of the business IMHO.

I can name loads of people who can add multiple zeros onto yr bottomline that you'd fire in the first day LOL

Exactly!!!

WTF do I people think Inever go to shows!!??

Stonecold clean and sober , I ain't the most quiet and staid person in the world..

LOL

Dravyk 04-26-2005 10:01 PM

My first knee-jerk reaction would be to fire him.

My second thought would be to find as much information about the incident as possible. Was it repeated many times during the show? Once? Was it over and over an entire night? Was it once for five minutes, then he passed out? Was in at 3am with a few people around? Was it at 10am on the show floor? ... There are degrees.

Again, I'd still be heavily wieghted towards the firing side of the equation, but I would first want to know "the degree" of the situation as to make the most informed choice.

You have a good point as usual, and I'm sure we all have somewhere at sometime

But if it's on my dime and my company I sure wouldn't be happy about it

Like I said, I'll probably find another reason to fire unless he was worth a good deal to the bottom line

Basically if he was the difference between a 1M a year company and a 10M a year company am sure I could look the other way for the overwhelming majority of things

Oh, well, hell, yeah, that's a horse of a different color. $9M could pay for plenty of liability insurance. :biglaugh:

What about if you paid him , 100k and he earned you 250k ?

:)

Basically what you are saying is you have the morals you can afford , and confirming you like the rest of us are a whore.

The only variable is the dollar amount ;-)))

dig420 04-26-2005 10:23 PM

ehh if that was the worst thing I ever did drunk I'd be a lot better off mentally than I am now lol

Depends how forceful he was getting. If he was just being a happy idiot I'd laugh at him for a week and bring him to the next show. If he was being a rapist I'd can him and maybe kick his ass too.

One of my employees got drunk at the last big show, hooked up with this black prostitute and she wouldn't let any of the guys sharing his room come in unless they were gonna pay for a blowjob too. When she left she took his wallet and his weed with her. I just mocked him for a while and let it go ;)

The road to excess leads to the palace of wisdom.

Been there, done that. I learned a valuable lesson.

Partying doesn't put money in my investments and my kid's futures.

Yes, I remember that well. I believe I saw one or two people with a "what the fuck" look on their face. If you can get people in a Greek restaurant to look that way, you know you're doing good!

I remember you enjoyed the bellydancer, as well. :groucho:

Billy 04-26-2005 11:19 PM

Heck I am glad I have never got that drunk !

NickPapageorgio 04-26-2005 11:20 PM

I learned my lesson at the show in Florida last year. I got pretty tanked at Circue De Noir and fucked up a conversation that could have been a real booster for me personally. I think drinking and shows really don't mix if you can't control what you're having. To my credit, I was partying with ToyBoy. And there is no middle speed with him. It's either stop or full throttle. ;)

sarettah 04-27-2005 12:11 AM

A lot of it depends on if he was on the clock or not. I realize that for many companies, during shows, all reps are considered "on the clock" and I would think that most reps would assume that during the show they are representing their company.

But there is grey area to be found there.

PornoDoggy 04-27-2005 12:18 AM

First tour in the Navy I went to a "hump" (half-way through a deployment) party and explained to the CO and XO how to better run the squadron. I didn't drink at official command functions after that.

First real job after I got out of the Navy I nearly missed my plane coming back from San Diego - fortunately for me, the people in whose driveway I'd parked my rental car before I passed out went to work early. I always wished I'd known where that was so I could have thanked them properly. I never drank at trade shows after that (but I always managed to take a couple days vacation after I got back).

I don't think there are nearly as many variables as others do. MAYBE if he's very young and it was his first show, blah-blah-blah, you can give him another chance. If it's somebody who's been around the block a few times, or it's somebody you know likes to party - it's either "no shows for you", or "hey, hit the highway."
