Fatpad, my point is that people without children always seem to know how to raise children perfectly.
That is, until they have children - then they realize the truth. There's nothing quite so humbling as having a child. |
Yeah KRL, lots of bad things out there that kids are exposed to nowdays. Even video games. Its up to the parents to regulate such things though, and I have no doubt its not an easy task. Much credit to parents nowdays dealing with such things. I myself am not even sure if I want to bring any kids into this world its such an ugly place.
Nick, yep, according to the doctor all my insides work fine. I'm very responsible when it comes to birth control. Its much easier to have safe sex than it is to give birth and raise a kid, or have an abortion even. Much cheaper too hahaha |

I raised my sister from about age 13-16, and it wasn't humbling it was a pain in the ass. Thank goodness she wasn't my kid, ball and chain is an understatement. What is this truth you speak of? |

I think it's better to be honest with a child, and punishing him about the realities of his family situation is NOT going to help matters. Perhaps taking the child aside and explainign to him that not everyone is COMFORTABLE with it or something, in terms he could understand, sure. But PUNISHING HIM? I think his "mothers" did something right telling him the reality. Lying to children for any reason is absolutely not the way to do things, especially about sensitive and integral family situations. I was raised my entire life without my father, and I think I'm a pretty well-rounded and good person. I don't see how the lack of a father in any way is going to change a situation if a child is well-loved and treated well. Apparently families that aren't perfect nuclear families according to society's standards just aren't acceptable? And how about all the fathers out there that are useless pieces of shit? I'd say some kids would be better OFF without their fathers.. the same can be said about EITHER sex of parent. I'm disappointed in you Fletch. For being someone who doesn't seem to conform to societal mores and expectations, you sure parroted the right crap this time around. |

well my post did what it was exactly supposed to do.
Youre disappointed in me? I am disappointed in YOU. Of all people, damn, i didnt expect you to bite. You love me more than you love this industry Lady Michief. Thought we were cool girl? I posted that to get a rise out of the females on the board, and oh lookie... it WORKED!!! :inlove: Last edited by Fletch XXX at Dec 3 2003, 10:28 AM |

I guess I'm just always kind of surprised how some people can be so closed minded on things... especially in this industry where we're so desensitized to almost everything sexual on the planet. However, some people on this board don't surprise me anymore, as they are just typically contrary to everything the "regulars" seem to comment on. It's the whole look-at-me mentality that makes me just skip over their posts now for the most part. I mean, it's not even entertaining stupidity anymore. Also - on the subject of age appropriateness... the Department of Education in California sent us two books with our homeschooling registration when my son hit 3rd grade a few years ago - that's for what, approximately ages 7-8? One was titled, "I Have Two Daddies" and the other was "I Have Two Mommies." It was *required reading* so that they could have a better understanding about "alternative lifestyle families" and to "encourage social understanding and acceptance of people who are different." So... apparently - in California anyway - it was acceptable for the school board to want to teach my children about what gay is. Maybe it's just Lousiana that's screwed up? <_< |

I couldn't say exactly, but 7 years old is really young. I have a brother who is 6 and I can't imagine him being aware of what gay means. He would be trying to kiss all the boys in his classroom if that was the case because he's just an innocent little kid. And not that there is even anything wrong with little kids having affection towards each other, but do we really want them to start playing gay that young? He doesn't even know Santa Claus isn't real, let alone what being gay means![/b][/quote] Grade 4 is when it starts here.. not sure about down there, but they start it earlier because there are SO many parents who ARE NOT talking about it with their kids, yet kids in general are introduced to it younger and younger all the time. Turn on tv sometime, it's not hard to see where they get it from. Even half the commercials scream sexuality or sexual situations. Kids aren't stupid, they pick things up. |
Here's a question for you parents.
Would you want this little 7 year old boy teaching your kids what gay is? Maybe asking all the girls in his class is they are gay too like mommy? |

I could never punish a child for telling me or anyone else the truth, even if I didn't like it. How can they hold this child accountable for explaining something he obviously didn't understand could be problematic or unacceptable? If they should talk to anyone, they should discuss it with his mothers, if it's that big of aproblem. |

It's hard NOT to want to shut it all out when you see some of the garbage out there and accessible to kids. But you're right, I think Louisiana is WAYYY behind on things.. .Gay partnerships are a part of life and society now, and it's certainly not going to change. The sooner everyone accepts that, the better, especially for kids who won't understand why they're in trouble for things like talking about their mothers being gay. |

The problem is there are so many liberal parents that make it hard for conservative parents to exercise their parenting restrictions properly on their children. I told my kid no, for months, til I finally just caved in cause he was going over to his friends so much to play it. |

Maybe even start your own society of perfect, know-it-all Scientologist mothers or something. |

However having parental involvement and education, knowing right from wrong, real from pretend, etc, can have a huge impact on how a child deals with that kind of thing... |

life in the US is like a bad episode of Jerry Springer sometimes. who cares what some teacher did? Jesus people. maybe he was wrong, maybe he wasn't. it has nothing to do with any of us and certainly should not be on national news.

It's true... the more I see the more I want to shield them. Fortunately being IN this business has helped me to be more educated on how to protect them. Funny you guys are mentioning GTA right now... we are currently having this argument in our house with our 14 year old. My brother (aren't uncles great??) sent him a copy. He's only been playing it 2 days and I'm ready to throw it in the fireplace. :grrr: :grrr: :grrr: |

Peaches, I didn't assume anything, I asked her a question and by her avoiding the answer in her post I then made the assumption.
She can tell me I am wrong if she pleases, I'm curious to know but she seems to not want to answer. Get it? knock knock anybody home? This is turning into textual mish mosh at this point. I hate having to explain things like this. Please try harder to keep up! Lady Mischief! I didn't say anything about all mother having kids unplanned! See Serge, THIS is why I don't bother much with this shit nowdays. Gee whiz. |
