Re: Create your own South Park Character
Geeze, I hate leaving you guys alone. You can't be unsupervised for a minute.
You are one handsome man, Timon. Your wife is absolutely beautiful. When I told my cousin I was getting married, and explained the last name, which is Czechosolvakian, she said "ah...an educated Polack." She wasn't kidding. I still made out better than my sister, who married a wonderful, wonderful guy from Israel and converted to Judaism. My youngest sister was on the lookout for a Buddhist from China for the longest time so that she could play, too. I think the South Park "version" created was limited by the skin colors availabe. I didn't get "Zulu warrior," the character's on skis. I doubt the climate of the Zulus allows much skiing. However, I learned a very long time ago that nice little white girls like me shouldn't run around telling other people whether or not they have the right to be offended. Only the individual himself gets to make that decision. Not knowing whether or not you're teasing the individuals involved makes a this difficult thing on which to comment. I would like to gently say that if you are indeed serious, you have just handed anyone reading this thread a weapon to use against you anytime they want. (And it certainly wouldn't be Dravyk to whom I'm referring. I've known him long enough to know that should he start firing the arrows in his intellectual quiver, none of them would be cheap and shabby. It simply isn't his style. He goes for a clean wound or none at all.) Thank you for listening. I'm going to go back to fantasizing about being the Swiss cheese in your sandwich now. :) |

I think THAT is racist and you owe the fucking Zulu tribes an apology. Seriously!!!!!! You're carrying your little act here too far, mate. If I had made the skin color of the guy white, then a) you wouldn't be calling him a Zulu and b) then you'd be calling racist for NOT making the cartoon black!!! For Christ sakes, if you're doing what I think you're doing, you're act has gone too far over the line. And IF you honestly were offended then I sincerely apologize for offending you. Sincerely. HOWEVER a) I will never say it was racist, because it fucking was NOT by anyone's definition and b) if you were actually offended, then you really gotta pull that white conservative stick out of your ass because you've lost any sense of humor. And finally, here. http://www.squidge.org/~novad/Galler...vaD/index.html There's an old girlfriend of mine; we've known each other since high school. Eventually she moved off to LA and married another white guy. But we remain friends and in touch. Do, please, ask her if I'm a racist. I totally insist you do. ... And then YOU, Timon, give ME an apology for calling me one. And I am not fooling. |
Re: Create your own South Park Character
Excellent!!!!!
I win $ 50 on the ..... Within 10 posts someone is gonna say: ""Some of my best friends are black"" "" My ex-girlfriend was black" ;-)))) |

I've chatted in icq with Timon over this at some length. I'd say he is rather sensitive to the race thing. But when you hear what he has had to put up with in his life , it is understandable. A WASP like me literally cannot even imagine it.... :( |

Funny thing, if he had not mentioned it recently, I would have forgotten he was black. And -- before I get in needless trouble for this -- it wouldn't have mattered. I do not try to "remember what color someone is", because really, it doesn't matter. I don't "see" color or "think" color. I "think and see" a person. Period. Now I'm only mentioning it because I would have made the little cartoon guy the color white or biege or yellow (by not remembering) and then I would STILL have put all that goofy shit on him. Identical!! :) Again, he made a silly, bad, foolish looking cartoon of me, and I was only getting Timon back. The color issue is what HE put onto it. No more, no less. Oh and .... I'm Black Irish. That should count for something, no? :p |
Re: Create your own South Park Character
I think it was the L&O:SVU about the Neo-Nazis that caused my sweet, gentle, totally clueless husband to shake his head and say "how on earth can you work up that much hate for an entire group of people based simply on the color of their skin?"
The "what planet are YOU from?" was out of my mouth before I could stop it. Not my finest hour, admittedly. But, he truly doesn't get it. The young man that shares his office and has become like a son to him is black. He used to work in hotels and country clubs and his "kitchen Spanish" is excellent because in California a lot of the kitchen workers all have the same social security number. He's one of those wonderful people who goes through life forming opinions on a person-to-person basis, one of the major reasons I married the guy. When we lived in Louisville, Kentucky, our car broke down and my husband had the hood up and was tinkering. I watched a young black man hesitate before offering to help. (His mother was right behind him and gave him a good poke in the ribs. One helped people in need, one didn't stand there and worry about getting shot for being the wrong color helper in her world.) But the look on this young man's face stayed with me. He offered help and soon he and my husband were having fun under the hood tinkering while I chatted with Mom. Louisville was an education in racisim, though. I got to see it in action. It was...horrifying is the only word that could come close to describing it. Racism is alive and well and still just as ugly. Just watch the news. A "male suspect" is white. Nobody ever says "a white male suspect." But the race is *always* mentioned if the person is of color, any color. That isn't to help in the spotting of the suspect, either. It's to inflame the audience. If they wanted to help in the spotting, they'd save it for that little "description" screen they always show on the local news. (What the hell does "dark skinned" mean in a country like America? Italians have dark skin as far as I'm concerned.) We're a "melting pot," we're a "stew," we're totally fucked. The freedoms afforded all of us allow some of us to have legally protected bigotry. Dravyk...please calm yourself. Like I said previously, we don't get to decide when when someone else has the right to be offended. The offended person gets to decide that. I've known you for a very long time and would have bet my last nickel that you aren't now, nor have you ever been, a racist. But, as Timon said - quite fairly - he *hasn't* known you since 1997. (I'm paraphrasing there.) He's really not either a racist or insensitive, Timon. What he is is a man who enjoys his sense of humor and playing with the South Park character maker. He made characters for a lot of people. Leaving you out would have been rude. He attempted to play off the running gag you have with voodooman by adding a dildo. (I didn't even know that was a dildo until you pointed it out, Drav.) The joke fell flat...just like a lot of mine have a regrettable tendency to do. I was recently on the receiving end of a one liner that caused the board to erupt. The poor individual who delivered the line had absolutely NO idea why everyone was upset...because he had intended it to be funny and gave it no further thought. Apology given, apology accepted, onward we all went back into the groove. (Note: an apology was given for hurt feelings accidentally caused because he is a gentleman, not because he "owed" me an apology. It is debatable whether or not apologies are "owed" for acts that are not deliberate. They're nice, though.) When you put up the photo of you and your wife, I was happy because I do like to see the people to whom I speak. I saw a damned fine looking man. Yes, I noticed the difference between you and your wife. I thought to myself "ah, yes...big man, smaller woman." (I've known a lot of big. gentle bears - as in "teddy" - that have much smaller wives. I notice because I've always been too damned big to be swept up in a man's arms and carried up the stairs ala "Gone With the Wind" and have a wistful admiration for women who can be.) You are all now returned to your previously scheduled programming.... :) |

Ashame, this is what happens with the Hatfields and the McCoys, the Arabs and the Israelis, etc and etc .... Until they fight so long they can't even remember who started it and what it was over -- and each side shoots back because the other side shot back last time. Well I apologized for unintentionaly offending. Let's see if that is returned in kind as easily as shots are. |

Re: Create your own South Park Character
Nick, for consistantly pouring gas on this fire instead of trying to extinguish it, shame on YOU!
And for knowing me as well as you do -- love how you mention you've known Timon for so long, but you've met me and known me for about the same amount of time -- yet despite that, your labeling me more than once as a racist in this thread, YOU owe me a public apology, Nick. |

All right, points to you on the first line, Dravyk. I do admit that being called a racist when one is not will offend. I don't want to get into assigning ranks as to "my hurt feelings are better than your hurt feelings." I think there's so much noise in this thread that your apology runs the chance of getting lost, though. |
