To some of us, this is more than a gig, or a joke. This is a business. Believe it not, there are people still around from the old days. A few of us are not one hit wonders who hang on.

Hard to walk away from a biz when the $ flows in, with minimal hours of work. Just a little brain power here and there.

I just wish I was like Gonzo though, and could give people shit, yet beg for work in this industry! Too bad I do not need a job from anyone.

I'm in san diego right now doing tap dances for quarters. While your bored and uncultured in paris.

ill stick to my po pan handlling and asking questions like meat and aga do about low preforming programs.

Live high and mighty off your vast empire built on gay websites.

Your not an old timer in my book.[/b][/quote]
That is an interesting remark. What do you think an "oldtimer" is? The net as a viable business proposition hasn't been around very long and oldtimer seems a little inapprpriate to me. In most business, you would barely be out of apprenticeship. The net has settled into a "rhythm" now of real business and it seems to me some of the so called old timers were never actually very good, just very lucky and the new wave of entrepreneurs have the skills. I try to react and not dwell on a past that is so immature to begin with. Just my observation.

BTW, I made my first nickel off of the internet in 1997

People should stop whining, and realize they are washed up and look offline. Wendy's is hiring.

Sorry to hear you think Porn is all you can do

The business should be the means to an end

What would you do if the bottom fell out of on line porn?
Got to keep that income level increasing or at the very least where it is now

Why is that Vick? Why should the business not be a career? It seems that it is as viable as any other. It is profitable, substantial, and has a pretty bright future. Its like any other business.

gilgy - while some may disagree and others won't admit it/don't like it the big easy money in on line porn is gone

and it's to everyone's best interest to have a few other things generating revenue (If I recall and I may be wrong you posted you got in around 1999 - if so you missed the gold rush and might not understand what I'm saying)

Also just from a personal view point - porn after 7 years has gotten boring

Always good to have new challenges and new success

I agree to a a point. But opportunities like the gold rush of a few years ago do not really come along too often in any field of endeavour (well maybe more often in real estate). The trick is to make a solid reliable business out of the opportunity. It shouldn't be boogie nights. I don't think its boring. I have made a shit pot of money doing this. What I find fascinating is "business" not the product. So it has not become boring but a new challenge almost monthly. Its an interesting game. The product is fun too. The internet is still brand new. In twenty years, these first few years will be of less significance and those that hang in will undoubtedly prosper from their wealth of experience. At that point, they will literally be old timers on the internet. I see it in the professionalism of everyone I deal with from financial people, to server providers. They are all more mature and businesslike. It is a great place to be and unless you have a burning desire to do something else, I see no reason to bail if you are successful and your business is growing. My year ends have always improved. The work load is a little heavier, but the bottom line still goes up. So I have no intention of leaving for something else. Just leaving someday like most people do in any occupation.

I agree with everything you have said.

I am not bored with the internet , it is still the easiest marketing tool available but frankly on mail traffic , sending to adult is no way as profitable as others.

Why?

A.) Oversaturation
B.) most affilate programs ,especially as they watch there margins shrink, have become so fucking crooked they make me look like a saint .

I believe taking the tricks learned in the gold rush days of adult into non-adult is where the futre is.

People who whine about over saturation and bottoms falling out are living in 1999. There are still a handful of wise ones making record amounts of $. Survival of the fittest, and do not put all your eggs in one basket.

When people stop looking at porn online I will retire.

The bottom never fell out. The market just corrected and the losers lost. The competition got greater. That is not a falling sky, it is an opportunity to build a solid business if you are better than the rest. Quality is more important than ever in all aspects of retail. The public is demanding it in everything from burgers to appliances. There does seem to be an attempt by those with resources to corner the market, but I think that will ultimately fail. They are all using the same tactics under different disguises. Usually webmaster "resources" and they are a nickel a dozen. Its a brave new world that is an opportunity for anyone with imagination to make a high end living without massive investment nor training. Where else to you get it offered to you on a plate like this?

But serge, a few well calculated real estate deals can do that for you today. I have seen way too many people who are set for life come and go. I was in a business in the 60's and seventies that had way more potential profit and I saw a lot of people make a lot of money and I wonder where they are today. Of course, it was not quite as legal an enterprise.
A few of the smart guys will be set for life but I would assume that they are not posting on the boards like you and I. Why would they? They are rich, we, I guess are not.

hmmmm.....rich do not post on the boards????

what gave you this idea????

I saw Sysco president, CEO and owner posting on RagingBull invetment chat board, and he is not exactly poor. Need more names of BILLIONAIRS for me to throw at you as an examples of posters?

I see Aga posting, Lensman posting,
and those guys are not exactly poor either.

Posting is fun and a good time killer bet ween the trades

as for "calculated real estate deals"
I saw Harry Grant losing his shirt and declaring bancrupcy on 250,000,000 project in Newark, NJ,
I saw Reichman brothers (Olympia York) going the same route in London project....

there is NO such a thing as a "safe real estate investment with no possibility to lose"

P.S. I used those names only because I know those people personally,
I'm sure there are LOTS of other stories when real estate deals went titty up

Yeah, I know who the Reichmans are. Local boys make good. Guess they should have quit while they were ahead. Don't know who aga or lensman are, but I haven't seen the Reichmans posting lately. Since you know the Reichmans personally, didn't they ever steer you into great real estate? But the point is a lot of people lose what they got because they never really earned it in the first place. They just made it. I am making an argument for quitting while you are on top. That's all.

I am not quite sure what your point is or why I should care. In every business there are those who do extremely well, those that do well, those that bump along and those who fail. In the film business, for instance, those numbers you quote are not huge, but at the low end they are massive. Then there are tons who do well, raise their families, drive two cars, belong to the country club and live well making their little docs and films.
I for instance choose to travel the world and live in a fine place with nice art on the walls. Drive a couple of cars. Am about to buy a couple more houses and eat at any restaurant I choose. I am not wealthy, but I am not poor. I have been known to drop a grand on dinner for two and on a whim fly to Europe. I will be in France, Spain and Tuscany this year and am about to take a month off...well not really...but travel for a month driving across the continent and do a minimum of work.
I am not making millions...but cumumtively have made more than most and will continue to do so. I am also old enough to have seen a lot of bullshit so those amounts really don't impress me. I don't mean any of this in an adversarial way, just telling you how I feel from one who does very well out of the internet and all it has to offer. Your friends lensman and aga I am sure made a shitpot and I say good luck to them. I wish most people the best unless they fuck with me and give me grief. That's all.

gilgy,
my point is:
it's EASY to enjoy your growth every year,
because you don't have the top to look at, the top which was made in 1999.

IF you made millions in 1999,
your today's "growth" would look very pigmeish to you. Therefore,
all your talk about "bottom hasn't fell",
"making upsacel living" is a bit funny to us who saw the "Everest" in 1999.

You have to understand something, Serge. I have been on Everest in my past career. I have no need to retrace my footsteps. If I kacked tomorrow, I would have achieved more than most and would die content. This is a good living with a good future. My goal is peace and contentment. I have lived a life that others could only dream of. The bottom never fell out for me because I was thrilled when I realized half a million dollars a year was an easy nut to crack. I never cared to go through the agro to make the big bucks. I am content, so the bottom has not fallen out of my market and I am sure there are thousands out there like me that normally fly below the radar and are content to do so. I also like the way you and your buddy Einstein think. I guess to be fair the bottom did fall out of their market. I see your point.

gilgy, and where we BOTH agree, and I bet we BOTH seen it:
one can be content AND HAPPY with $500,000,
while others are DISCONTENT AND NEVER BE HAPPY with 50 mils, 500 mils and even bils.

We ALL saw Wall Street big wigs going to jail,
and those poor souls had more than ALL of us combined.

You have a WISE attitude which comes with age and I wish all the youngsters out there to have 1/10th of your attitude and...just be content and happy.

I haven't read through all this thread, but I will... eventually when it dies down.

My reply will be interesting enough.. Please keep this thread going in the meantime. I find some of the answers such as "Invest in HDTV!" as pure brilliance that will lead you to a point in your life very few of you can imagine sitting where you are now :)

Fighting to get back to where you were, let me leave what I have to say at that... And yes I "was" on top of this world we call internet porn at one point of time.. More on top of it then 95% of you will ever be. But I made mistakes, alot of them. Those of you that think you are impervious of making the same mistakes, think twice... And stay focused.

Don't make the same mistakes I did, and that is all I can say.... I will find this a very interesting read once this thread dies down I am sure many of you... if you are WISE will have LEARNED something. Potentially what could have been THE most important lesson in your life!

"Never count on what is working in the present, ALWAYS plan for the future"

That's just my take on it all though, and 99.99% of you don't know me.

it will take you 10 life times, cretin, to make what players were making in 1999 alone

he's made enough money to buy a wife AND a new set of breasts!!!! :yowsa:

imagine if he hadn't spent the first few years slagging everyone for doing the things he now relies on, he might have been able to retire!

gilgy, and where we BOTH agree, and I bet we BOTH seen it:
one can be content AND HAPPY with $500,000,
while others are DISCONTENT AND NEVER BE HAPPY with 50 mils, 500 mils and even bils.

We ALL saw Wall Street big wigs going to jail,
and those poor souls had more than ALL of us combined.

You have a WISE attitude which comes with age and I wish all the youngsters out there to have 1/10th of your attitude and...just be content and happy.

I know I am
;-))))

and while that sounds like the most simple thing in the world, we raise our children in a way that achieves totally the opposite

child cries ... gets icecream
child hits another child ... gets a 'talk'
child smashes new toy ... gets another one
child demands mcdonalds ... child gets mcdonalds

I observe parents all the time, and I can't believe how often they give in to their children to save argument, or say things to them like 'stop crying and i'll get you a treat'. everything we teach them is to want more but to never be satisfied for long when they get it. school, college etc, all to work towards a goal that most people will never achieve and those that do feel disappointed with ... teaching us to desire & reach for more material posessions we live in a state of 'i will be happy when ........'

the absence of the things we desire is the cause of unhappiness ... so why do we have to spend the first 25 years of our life being pushed in the wrong direction because the voice of happiness speaks quieter than desire created by TV commercials?

I just spent the day with children :headwall:
BRING BACK SPANKING AND WOODEN SPOONS!!!!!!!!!

Ryan, your story sounds familiar ;-) Ya know what they say though, the only place to go from the bottom is up & the only place to go from the top is .................

Hols start June 26...Actually Alex might like to go with you that weekend. We have Jordie's bday party on the 25th and we're going to the Test on the 26th so she needs to sleep elsewhere both of those nights. She'll prolly go to her dad's one of them, but you can have her the other. :)

Why should the business not be a career? It seems that it is as viable as any other. It is profitable, substantial, and has a pretty bright future. Its like any other business.
that's the way i'm looking at it. slowly but surely i'm using my mainstream online income to finance my ventures in adult. there is no end to the opportunities i see.
