Re: MikeAI, don't go to NO

Just went to CNN. This below sounds like someone writing a Hollywood disaster flic and went ridculously overboard to the unbelievable! It's not though. This is real stuff, sadly. http://oprano.com/msgboard/images/smilies/sad.gif

Some 25 feet of standing water is expected in many parts of the city -- almost twice the height of the average home -- and computer models suggest that more than 80 percent of buildings would be badly damaged or destroyed, he said.

Floodwaters from the east will carry toxic waste from the "Industrial Canal" area, nicknamed after the chemical plants there. From the west, floodwaters would flow through the Norco Destrehan Industrial Complex, which includes refineries and chemical plants, said van Heerden, who has studied computer models about the impact of a strong hurricane for four years.

"These chemical plants are going to start flying apart, just as the other buildings do," he predicted. "So, we have the potential for release of benzene, hydrochloric acid, chlorine and so on."

In New Orleans, which lies below sea level, gas and diesel tanks are all located above ground for the same reason that bodies are buried above ground. In the event of a flood, "those tanks will start to float, shear their couplings, and we'll have the release of these rather volatile compounds," van Heerden added.

Because gasoline floats on water, "we could end up with some pretty severe and large -- area-wise -- fires."

"So, we're looking at a bowl full of highly contaminated water with contaminated air flowing around and, literally, very few places for anybody to go where they'll be safe."

He went further.

"So, imagine you're the poor person who decides not to evacuate: Your house will disintegrate around you. The best you'll be able to do is hang on to a light pole, and while you're hanging on, the fire ants from all the mounds -- of which there is two per yard on average -- will clamber up that same pole. And, eventually, the fire ants will win."

Have not heard from Billy.

I have no idea about any of our property/cars.

Entergy claims all power is out, and may take 30-45 days to get power back up.

Yeah, I was looking at what it did to Biloxi :( My son was there in tech school when Ivan went through and they thought there was going to be a direct hit until the last minute. Mother Nature can be quite surprising! Glad everyone's OK in NOLA.

First floor of the Beau Rivage is flooded. No idea how the casino barges faired, but they should've just broken loose and floated as needed.

The FFN's are sad at the thought of what probably happened to the buffet.

So what about all the hype & pics that Fox news is airing? Is this just a section of the city, or most of it? They are talking about it being inhabitable now that new water is flowing in. No business, food, or services, etc

Are you on higher ground that was spared & that continues to function? .

Yup the ole head in the ass is big in the southern states ( hence why they all voted for bush)

yes, I agree this is a tragedy, but 65 dead hardly compars to the tsunami death toll.

although before anybody gets their panties in a wad, i do not think any death is acceptable without it being considered a tradgedy .

It not a war...its just the equivelent of a hurricane ,a "Desert Storm" , if you will , happening every day ;-)

joesho, put your useless ass to bed. and put your useless partners who bare all expense to bed. you are tied, you are talkng old shit, and you have no idea of what it is like to go through a hurricane and flood. as far as this goes, you can go fcuk yourself. eat shit, do not use the catastrophe in the SE to promote your business.. this would make you the lowest of the low.. a hurricane of this magnatude hits panama and it is GONE GONE GONE. so shove it up your ass.. you should be praying for the people, not harking your chump ass shit in the face of it. be shamed!

Holy shit , I'm watching the extent of the damage on CNN for the first time today.

OMG!!

1 m homeless.

Vast areas of NO destroyed.

This really is tragic :(

My sincerest best wishes to those with friends and family there.

IO wonder how many decided to ride it out because of the media hype that has surrounded the last 20 storms?

The TV station that cried wolf?

Ok here we go.....

1 i have been through 5 huricanes
David Puerto Rico
Federico Puerto Rico
Hugo Puerto Rico
Andrew Miami
Georges Puerto Rico
And i can tell you this. blame it on poor consturction. houses in USA are not made for hurricanes and builders have fucked a lot of people up the ass just like what happened in miami. All hurricanes i went through in P.R. never hurt my dad's house (yes i was still not married and young) Andrew we were lucky we were facing south otherwise our appartment in Kendal would have died.

Storm serge there is no way to beat that. Just talking about winds

2. Panama can not get hit by hurricanes because of its position but yes if a hurrricane came through we would be fucked cause they build just as shitty as USA.

3. No we dont want to promote our biz don't know where you got that from. I was the one that commented that things are not what you see on TV (USA TV) they always portray anything outside USA as a jungle and trust me I was wrong when I got here. This is way beyond the fact. I feel sorry for NO and Missippi and Alabama I have been to all those states.

4. the comment is just because you see it on TV and have not visited doesn't mean the place is a shithole.

AGAIN my heart and best wishes goes to everyone. I know what a hurricane is and trust me a lot of the casualties are caused by missinformation and not believing it will come through.

anyone that went through andrew and saw this storm will tell you.
get the fuck out and stay safe then come back and look at damages.

anyways

cya

I am dissappointed in Joesho and Inabon.

Funny Oprano was down the other day and it is hosted in Panama.

Directnic has not gone down even through a national crisis.

Bottom feeders who are trying to get businss by scaring people about DirectNIC and ZIPA are nothing but scum!

We are not going anywhere - and I promise you we have long memories - for both those who worked against us, and for friends who SUPPORT us!
