Drum Roll.... and the last hour arrives.. (money shot moment)
#1 is $5,050 #2 is $80,200 If you genuinely want site #1.. take it now. it's off the market at the end, it's not worth me selling this cheaply, if it doesnt happen here and now. |
Thankyou linesmen, thankyou ballboys, game over!
I hope no one minded me talking to myself here all weekend ;-) I wanted to post a run down of what happened for people interested right now, but have my hands full, so will do it a little later.. I made 2 great contacts and learned a bunch of stuff at the very least.. will share soon. Please do any "Hijacking" you like now Gonzo :) PS... I made a small donation to Pattyecake as some compensation for the shameless exploitation of her name.. Pattyes Kids |

I started to piggy back Opti's experiment as well... seems that my brief post also started 2 biz conversations tonight as well. Who says Oprano is slow on Sunday night? |

Friday night, a good mate who has been talking about an industry exit for a few weeks sent a rough run down of the assets he wanted to move.. and said he wanted $80k and how would I go about selling it.
I couldn't see an easy way to get anyone I knew with that sort of cash to even read his list of stuff, let alone buy it, but I wanted to at least see if I could help him establish a value without getting cut to ribbons by posting asking for opinions on a message board... so I started penning a post and it just turned into a dutch auction.. and seemed like it would be far more interesting if there was also a cheaper site, so I added my linksite. As far as the goal of getting #2 looked at went, about 12 people saw the list, 2 people sounded like they will seriously look at Paul's proposition and 1 person said they would be fairly sure to pay $45k for it if he ever wanted to discuss that sort of price. So, as long as I didn't piss anyone off.. I enjoyed myself and got a far better result than expected for what I wanted to achieve at the start. It's probably easier to answer a few questions people asked rather than rave on. * Why not just tell us what the sites earn? I didn't want to get into proving anything this weekend, nor take a risk on guaranteeing anything. Those that spoke to me personally have a fairly accurate guess what #2 will earn next month. For the curious that cant deal with any other valuation method than multiplication of income.. #1 is 1-2k/mth and #2 is 5-15k/mth (thats a wide range as its not my business to be posting anything more exact) * Did you really expect anyone to spend 80k without research time? No. but after what I saw I think people will spend 80k if given the research time and more information * No one on Oprano could understand where the value was in these sites! That's why I kept trying to frame the deal toward an affiliate program owner, to make it relevant.. I think with more time and a little planning, I could do a far better job of that part. FYI I "think" every serious buyer was a freesite orientated webmaster, so some serious business people that don't own paysites seem to read the board already.. I for one wouldn't mind a bit more talk about dollars amongst the politics and the sort of people attracted to this sort of thread are just the type of webmasters I want to know. * You didn't think anyone would pay 10k for your site so you never expected to donate that money! The second time I posted the offer, that was exactly what I was angling for and genuinely thought someone was going to do it! By that stage I was thinking more about establishing a market price for next week than any personal profit this week. * Selling websites just screams "failure" Here is a good example of 2 deals that don't scream failure.. And that would be a major selling point for mine if I end up doing this again... You are buying something you can have more confidence in purchasing than usual... If we can find quality sites regularly, and build up a few happy buyers as references. * No One has any money right now Many people I have known long term are having the best year of their careers, GFY is aflood with people buying second hand sites and trying to resell them at profit, there seems to buyers everywhere to me. There is no forum or place to sell an actual operating business though. And none where you can buy from someone and feel like there is any guarantees.. it's just too hard to buy or sell a site like the ones above.. but I really think there is a market for it and value to be had. This is too long anyway now.. so i wont go on.. but there is a whole bunch of areas i see spin off potential in (as I tried to demonstrate to some extent) so, if someone wants to encourage me... I'll probably have a think about this one, do a little work and see if I can have a another go at this in 2 weeks time. Probably not just linksites next time, but once again, hard to sell/buy businesses. Drav, I'd like to talk about doing Free Porn List if you are up for it genuinely. I promise thats the last long post (I hate them myself) and thanks to all that supported or participated. |
Not totally sure what you have in mind, Opti, but hey, that's cool. Let's gab and see what's what, mate. I'm always open to any and all ideas on a wide range of areas: buying, selling, joint ventures, strategic partnerships ... :)

Good luck with the sale Brad. I know you have put alot of work into Sleeks
The right buyer could do wonders with the great base Brad has setup here. |

Hi Kev :awinky:
Thanks Erik! Why the fuck didnt you come and buy it then?? :D Dravyk.. email on way ... sooonish ;-) Quick update: Here is possibilities for the future so far.. 2 x E-Mail marketing systems. * 1 is a small operation that incudes hardware/software he uses to send around 100k messages per day and comes with the email list of about 700k names. I'm told it's 90% deliverable, can-spam compliant and generates almost no complaints. * 2 is hardware and software only. It's about $30k replacement value in hardware plus the owners custom software. * A small AVS system that has been very succesful, with provable income between 5-10k/mth, but has lost it's billing solution. * A whole bunch of paysites... a few that looked intersting in tight niches where the owners are sick of producing custom content for not enough income. * A well known TGP..... for really big dollars with plenty of documentation to back it up * 1 or 2 LL sites of better quality than Sleeks, that was for sale above. And possible a few cheaper ones. What do people think? What sort of information would I need to provide for an item above that might appeal to you? How much time do people need to research a deal if they know there is a monthly auction for example? 1 week prior? Is an unbiased opinion from someone who has had a chance to really look under the hood more valuable then straight income stats that may or may not be fudged? And what level/type of proof would satisfy most people? (like if I could concince Nick to assess the email systems and put his name to an opinion for example) ;-) |

- Traffic stats. If possible, both server-based and counter-based. (Server-based can be fudged, but if they are true they are most accurate. Counter stats are always short, but anyone experienced has a good idea of the percentage they are off by in order to verify the first.) - How much of existing traffic is dependant upon other existing sites and will likely be turned away after purchase. (A lot of "amateurs" forget this baby! hehe) - Current and historical monthly income of site. - If site has potential and has been neglected or not worked to it's fullest, an accurate as possible estimate of what it could make at it's full potential (and something on which to base that estimate upon). - Three days minimum to a week is enough time for someone to consider how a piece might fit into their own personal picture puzzle. |

Well pop up blockers must have caused some serious ill effects , then the Ibill fiasco must have been put a lot on life support.... Porn will always be around... BUT.... I think the days of having several paysite proggies pulling in 3500 joins a day , and a few top flight affilate being able to send 200 - 300 joins a day are gone for a long long while.... People leaving/dying ??? Absolutely , lots will. However it is still relatively easy to net 150k -300k a yr ,from adult (including gambling etc) with some effort and knowledge. And thats not a bad living , working yr own hours , from home...etc etc |

Microsoft has an investment to protect and the popups/spyware/spam is/was eroding their market share. Im sure Bill Gates figures hes the only one that should profit off of Windows exploits. I guess some people thought they would figure out a way around it when it was released. I see one weasel in Texas that crys about it each and every week. "Wahhhh... has anyone got around the pop up block yet?" I know of 2 ways that defeats it right now. Maybe one should pay more attention to technology and cash flow and less time on Louis Vitton. The days of marketing by getting together with your buddies to loudly exclaim how cool you are and hope everyone buys it are over. I dont think knowing all the good drug dealers and hookers in convention towns is going to be an intregal part of a anyones resume anymore either. |
