Opening 50 sites of th sme old, boring generic bullshit content with the same plguins is dead...having 3 sets of a black model and calling it an ebony site is dead....bullshitting surfers is dead...
Oddly enough, I'm seeing the biggest growth in an area that almost seems in conflict bwith what seems to be killing the business...non-nude sites...that's right, sites where the models aren't even naked..all about the tease. The scene used to be full of scumbags and douchebags, but the underage modeling guys are gone from the scene now. The traffic from the NN TGP's isn't bad and conversions are great and these are all teaser galleries that "normal" TGP sites wouldn't even look at. Maybe it's a reaction to all of the extre porn and people are finally ready for some good old fashioned, well lit tease and softcore. Maybe it's the Maxim effect? There also seems to be more of a trust factor where the the surfer actually trusts these sites and know they aren't going to get triple billed, buttfucked, ripped off and overall jacked. They also fall for these girls and stay longer. Single girl amateur sites have always retained well and this new generation of non-nude/softcore sites continue that tradition. Our best converting site, BustyAmatuerBoobs barely has any hardcore on it at all, yet, our conversions and retention is better than average, because we don't bullshit the surfer, we give them what we promise and oddly enough they love us for it and they even buy our upsells to other paysites because they TRUST us. We get emails every day from surfers who love what we're doing and like the fact we don't jack them around and give what we promise: amateurs with huge natural tits. They could give a shit about hardcore. |

says who? Plenty of companies still making a fortune off bullshitting surfers - and its not just in adult. Marketing is 10% bullshit 90% presentation of bullshit We all seem to think that because something doesn't work for us anymore it doesn't work for anyone else ... Look around, there will always be someone who makes money doing something different to you. Just because you can't figure it out, doesn't mean its dead. If that were the case, tgp's would have been long gone because I can't for the life of me figure them out ..... |
there's more people than ever spending money on pornography.

Yup, I remember those too then, they got together and cleaned it up. I've not seen an underage modeling site on any of the major non-nude sites since the housecleaning... I used to flinch at people giving away free hardcore, now I'm seeing a nice income from 18 year old girls who are actually smiling and most of them only go topless or don't get nude at all and their fanbase is just as rabid. |

sorry, not dead, but limping There's always going to be a fair amount of bullshit (it's part of the marketing concept), but the days of nothing but plugins for a back end (if that) will be dwinlding as well (and yes, I remember making money from those types of sites ;-)) Maybe I've had my eyes opened by seeing the results of our sites and some of the other sites coming out lately. Not just the reality sites, but sites where content is starting to matter. Where a surfer's trust is starting to matter. I'm sure your celebrity sites are seeing it as well. Dead may have been a strong word, but there are certainly signs of whimpering (the aggressive toolbars, etc. are proof the "old ways" aren't working the way they used to). While I'm sure Hooper's making a fortune jacking surfers, it screams of some parts ambition, other parts desperation.... |
Porn isn't dead - it is just a business model so diluted that it is hard to see profit. We all got drunk and stupid on 80 and 90% profit margins, and everyone and their cousin came to town to join in the sick little party. All those guests emptied out the bar and took the proft margin with them.
Too many choices for not enough new clients. Alex |

and your Priest doesn't count
The dozens of signups I get per day. The dollar seemed worth it to them, and with the internet advancements, there are more dipshit surfers every day. Granted, they were stupider years ago, but hey, you can complain, or you can do your best, no? I've learned blaming never gets anyone anywhere. It's the bottom line that counts, right? |
there is plenty of money in this business for anyone who wants to get it.
there's money enough for everyone, and plenty more besides. |
eatapeach, that all depends on your definition of 'plenty' ... I agree with you to an extent, but I've seen just *how much* was made during the gold rush ...
I think *less* money is being spent on porn these days, and there's 1000's (maybe tens of thousands?) more webmasters to share it with ... If you were around in the days of 'build it and they will come AND pay' then its hard to be satisfied with making 1/100th of the amount while doing more work - even if you or I say its 'plenty' ... Pushpills, as always, you miss the point. go straight to exit console and do not pass go. |

I wish I could find this pic I saw a while ago ... it was a tshirt and it said something like 'fries are done'!
I never got to work at mcdonalds Jim so I wouldn't know ... my parents refused to let me wash dishes in someone else's kitchen for $7 an hour when they couldn't get staff to do it for $20  |

i think it was maybe too easy before, in the sense that just by having a website you could make money. now you actually have to apply yourself and sell and provide value for the customers. the days of the average webmaster making money by pushing the generic porn sites with generic content are coming to a close. for the webmaster who takes the time to provide a special product and market it as such will find that there is an enormous number of people who will trade their money for your product. find ways to create income from things that previously were expenses. they want to give you their money so let them. it's hardly my place to preach to the oprano crowd, so i'll shut up now. take it easy, eatapeach |
So porn is not dead...its just RESTING , mate !!
Mr. Praline: 'Ello, I wish to register a complaint. (The owner does not respond.) Mr. Praline: 'Ello, Miss? Owner: What do you mean "miss"? Mr. Praline: I'm sorry, I have a cold. I wish to make a complaint! Owner: We're closin' for lunch. Mr. Praline: Never mind that, my lad. I wish to complain about this porn membershiop what I purchased not half an hour ago from this very site. Owner: Oh yes, the, uh, the cumguzzlingteenhos...What's,uh...What's wrong with it? Mr. Praline: I'll tell you what's wrong with it, my lad. 'pludin content, that's what's wrong with it! Owner: No, no, its uh,...original exclusive content mate. Mr. Praline: Look, matey, I know a bullshit site when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now. Owner: No no its not bullshit , its exclusive content ! Remarkable site, the cumguzzlingteenhos, idn'it, ay? Great content! Mr. Praline: The content don't enter into it. It's bullshit. Owner: Nononono, no, no! 'Its original! Look at what OxCash, LightSpeed, NastyDollars, SoulCash, etc. have done the last couple years. They barnstormed in and took over while everyone else was bellyaching about lower margins and no money left in the business. Of course, now everyone has a DVD-rip site they call a "reality site". This isn't an industry of leaders. There are several in it who are, but by and large, most are followers. Just because some actual work has to be applied, doesn't mean it's dead. It's just evolved like every industry before it and every industry afterwards. For years, I got lazy and let the "gold rush is over" mentality drag me down and ecome sort of a mental block to success. After seeing the effort some of these other young companies have put in, it rejuvenated me and gave me a kick in the ass. |

While they aren't exactly new, I see a lot of review sites popping up and we're loving the traffic from them. They will probably never grow to the size of TGP's, but these sub-1:100 ratios are nice to look at and the retention from them so far has been amazing. They don't spin the counters, but they fill the bank account just fine.

so it seems the board members are divided on many ways ....
Those that made millions in 98/99/00 are bored to tears by porn Those that made thousands are still kicking it Those that made millions are moving more towards nonadult Those that made thousands are still kicking it Those that made millions really don't care a fuck about the adult industry. Those that made thousands love it and in the main would be involveds anyway for free. ;-)))) Fuck it where can I get a toolbar? ;-))) |

maybe some of the richest among us have forgotten what it's like to get up every morning and go to a job you barely tolerate so you can pay the bills. i'm no longer in that position but i remember it quite vividly. my worst day as an adult webmaster is better than my best day in any other job. the best part is the days just keep getting better. i feel like i'm getting over on the world by being paid to have a fucking ball. and i'm not a mathematician, but you add enough thousands together and soon enough you have millions. |

Porn is not dead and will never be
But paid porn is in a coma for the moment. because there is too much free porn everywhere, lots of free tubes sites with shitload of content.... that's why we developed Debutantes.TV package : we provide porn because everyone wants to see porn, but we also provide non porn high quality content (videos, street fights, pc games, software, etc) just my 2 cents though :) click my sig to make money :yowsa: |

Re: PORN IS DEAD!
Business rises and falls with the ability of the general public to pay for it. In that respect, porn isn't any different from movies, travel, restaurants, bars, and about 1000 other things that are discretionary spending rather than manditory / required spending (basic rent / heat / food deals).
However, porn is also at an additional cross roads, where things like tubes, torrents, and other forms of P2P style distribution have taken much of the content and put it into the wild, free as the birds. Very few programs / content companies seem willing to take steps with Google and other search engines to block these sites out (even though Google will gladly remove links to stolen content). As a result, porn has also suffered greatly from current product going stale at a much faster rate. Finally, there is the use of porn as the "free" teaser to upsell people to dating sites, cam sites, and in many cases just to push viruses and rootkits onto end user's machines. The value of porn in the public eye I think is dropping pretty rapidly, and the guys laughing their way to the bank are guys like Legendary Liar and his group that basically profitted off of every possible method to abuse porn content to push their products. The upsides? A declining economy puts more girls (and guys) in the position to be willing to do porn for money. It will help to prime the pumps of new content, which hopefully should move things along again. H.264 or whatever it is flash video is fucking awesome, delivering what could be a full screen TV resolution for many end users... which leads to the potential of people using TV to view videos from websites. The PPV video model is truly still in it's infancy as far as I can see. As for Nick, honestly he wasn't psychic, just bored of what he was doing and trying to self justify getting out the door before it got slammed on his fingers. |

On thing you should have figured out by now is that there is no set formula for success in this biz. You simply have to put it out there. See what works for you. Repeat and build upon those that do, drop those that don't. If you're not comfortable with that, then don't give up your day job. |

Or, perhaps you weren't indicating all of "You fuckers?" It gets confusing with words like "You," that are printed the same in 1,2, and 3rd person usage. Your context isn't clear.
