I agree, that was a definite Pearl! :)
For me, I find happiness in each day. I try not to think about the past or worry about the future. Happiness comes from within, whether you drive a lambo or an old beater... If you aren't happy, all the money in the world won't change a thing. Eidt: I coulda been cool and said FIDDY! hahaha Last edited by VooMan at May 24 2004, 09:28 AM |

Dear Abby, Dear Abby ...
My feet are too long My hair's falling out and my rights are all wrong My friends they all tell me that I've no friends at all Won't you write me a letter, Won't you give me a call Signed Bewildered Chorus: Bewildered, Bewildered You have no complaint You are what your are and you ain't what you ain't So listen up Buster, and listen up good Stop wishing for bad luck and knocking on wood Dear Abby, Dear Abby... My fountain pen leaks My wife hollers at me and my kids are all freaks Every side I get up on is the wrong side of bed If it weren't so expensive I'd wish I were dead Signed Unhappy Unhappy, Unhappy You have no complaint You are what your are and you ain't what you ain't So listen up Buster, and listen up good Stop wishing for bad luck and knocking on wood Dear Abby, Dear Abby... You won't believe this But my stomach makes noises whenever I kiss My girlfriend tells me It's all in my head But my stomach tells me to write you instead Signed Noise-maker Noise-maker, Noise-maker You have no complaint You are what your are and you ain't what you ain't So listen up Buster, and listen up good Stop wishing for bad luck and knocking on wood Dear Abby, Dear Abby... Well I never thought That me and my girlfriend would ever get caught We were sitting in the back seat just shooting the breeze With her hair up in curlers and her pants to her knees Signed Just Married Just Married, Just Married... You have no complaint You are what your are and you ain't what you ain't So listen up Buster, and listen up good Stop wishing for bad luck and knocking on wood |
Glad to see I wasn't the only one the Dear Abby song came to mind

The only thing that can make you more popular and content than a 96' Camaro is two 96' Camaros.

"The man who dies rich dies disgraced." -- Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919) |
Wow Voo!!!! It took me months to read it the first time LOL I would pause for days at every pause mark!!!
It was a truly life changing book for me ... perfect for anyone who has problems with brain noise! (ie, unnecessary thinking - constantly!) Glad you are enjoying it ;-) |

And no HellPuppy, it ain't Mad magazine. hahaha I can absolutely see how it would take months (or years) to read. I'm on total information overload right now... I'll finish the first go this week, and then I'll take my time with it on the second try. That ought to keep me busy until January Internext or so... :awinky: So far it is an excellent book. Right on the money as far as I am concerned... :) Last edited by VooMan at May 25 2004, 08:38 AM |
I think people that want to make money to make themselves happy are going to end up being disappointed. Some of the happiest people i know are barely able to pay the rent each week. On the other end of the spectrum, i know quite a few rich people who couldn't be happier, either. But i know a lot more wealthy people who are constantly stressed out and generally unhappy with their lives.
To me, making money isn't about happieness. It's about security and freedom. And being happy based on whether someone you don't know thinks your car is cool or not? You'll never be happy until you deal with your serious self esteem issues, man. |

I forgot to mention that there are obviously plenty more people who are barely able to pay the rent that are just as stressed as their rich counterparts. The point basically being that if you look at people, you'll find happy and unhappy people at every economic level. Money has nothing to do with happiness. The sooner some people realise, the better off their lives will be.

i think my self esteem is fine, looking cool to people i've never met is something I like. some people like kitty cats and the smell of roses. I don't. |

Anyone who is impressed by a 90's Camero generally isn't worth impressing Where I live Camero's are viewed as redneck cars unless it's a vintage Camero that has been lovingly/painstakingly restored Think about it, why would you want to impress or even know anyone who's impressed by a $20,000 car? :( |

Redneck camaros = any camaro that isn't mine. I'll get a six figure car eventually, but not for a couple years. why do we always end up talking about my camaro. http://www.smartestsearch.com/art/thecamaro2.jpg |

Ah Steve Grasshopper - you just don't get it ... yet
What might be slightly impressive (to me) is that you were able to buy the car yourself at 20something or 19 as far as being an impressive vehicle, see my above statements. It really isn't or anyone impressed by that car isn't worth impressing Youth is wasted on the young |

Steve, here are some past "pearls" on this topic:
Money never made a man happy yet, nor will it. There is nothing in its nature to produce happiness. The more a man has, the more he wants. Instead of filling a vacuum, it makes one. --Benjamin Franklin By all means marry. If you get a good wife you will become happy, and if you get a bad one you will become a philosopher. --Socrates (470-399 B.C.) Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be. --Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865) They say a person needs just three things to be truly happy in this world. Someone to love, something to do, and something to hope for. --Tom Bodett Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy. --H. L. Mencken The best way for a person to have happy thoughts is to count his blessings and not his cash There is no goal better than this one: to know as you lie on your deathbed that you lived your true life, and you did whatever made you happy. --Steve Chandler 100 Ways to Motivate Yourself And finally........................................... ................... Did you ever see an unhappy horse? Did you ever see a bird that has the blues? One reason why birds and horses are not unhappy is because they are not trying to impress other birds and horses. --Dale Carnegie     |
