Different answers depending on my mood.

No one in my family can understand why I've got Vanilla Sky on DVD and none of 'em will watch it with me again.
It's a total mindfuck, that's why I like it :)
Also under the "total mindfuck" category I think you could put 12 Monkeys and Jacob's Ladder.
Aw crap, I forgot to put Tim Robbins in my list... and Jeff Goldblum (purrr)

Miss Eve I loved her hair!! And her voice - god I wanted to talk like her so much when that movie came out, hehe. And that's the movie where I developed a never-ending lust for James Spader that still thrives to this day :P

Has anyone seen "Honey"? I'm really wanting to rent that one. Kinda looks like an ebony version of Flashdance. I love dance movies; one of the first dates Hubby and I went on we went to see Striptease. They didn't show on the commercials just how racy that movie was truly going to be - I thought it would just be a lot of dancing and pretty outfits! I was SOOO embarrassed sitting in the theatre I wanted to leave; I'm thinking "Oh my god I take this guy out to a movie where there's nekkid women practically fucking each other right on the screen, he's probably sitting there thinking I'm some kind of a pervert!!" lolol

We could do a "List of Movies You Couldn't Pay Me To Watch" thread... I've got a bunch of those :)

Shit add these to my favorites, Colin had to go and mention a Western...
Tombstone
Quigley Down Under
The Magnificent Seven
Unforgiven
Young Guns
The Quick and the Dead (okay the cinematography style was cheesy but it was a good story)

Winetalk.com 04-30-2004 08:09 AM

Vanilla Sky is a great mindfuck movie...

I also would include
12 Angry Man with Fonda,
if Vick asked for best 6 and not 5
;-))))

You could not be more wrong.

The story sucked BAD but Sam Raimi's unique visual style is the only thing that made it worth watching.

Winetalk.com 04-30-2004 08:35 AM

Joe, what was your beef with Forrest Gump?

This says it better than I could... particularly at this time of night!

But the real question is, what did you like about it?

It's shit.

review is very skewed and onesided,
total lack of balance or understanding of the movie and what it was all about.

as for replying me with question to my question,
you are NOT Jewish,
please stick to goim's format and just give me a plain answer
;-)))

Vick 04-30-2004 09:09 AM

What's the difference between a Catholic wife and a Jewish wife?

The Catholic wife tells her husband to buy Viagra.
The Jewish wife tells her husband to buy Pfizer.

Haven't completely but my usage is down to a few times a year. Just the same as anyone who enjoys certain things less as they get older.

Jesse_DD 04-30-2004 09:28 AM

Ah yes, Vanilla Sky is one of my top 10 movies on my top 5 list. The problem with questions like this is that I have 20 top 5 movies.

PornoDoggy 04-30-2004 11:39 AM

With you on The Wrath of Kahn, TE ...

Forest Gump was a good movie, but probably wouldn't make one of my "top" lists. Saving Private Ryan is in the same category.

Others I'd probably list, given the day:

I know - I totally suck at making decisions, lol! :P Heck, if they had said 50, I'd probably come up with 75 :headwall:

Bishop 04-30-2004 01:30 PM

Vick 04-30-2004 02:15 PM

Sort of surprised how many have listed Shawshank Redemption

It's a great movie but didn't think it would make so many top 5 lists

I read the story years ago

It's in Different Seasons from Stephen King by the name of "Rita Hayward and the Shawshank Redemption"

The movie is pretty true to the novella

I could expand beyoind my initial five as well :)

would add
12 Monkeys
Memento
A Boy And His Dog
A Christmas Story
Dogma
Evil Dead (unlike most horror movie fans, I prefer the first ED to the sequel)
Suspiria (all bow to the directing god that is Dario Argento)
Friday The 13th
A Nightmare On Elm Street
To The Devil A Daughter (Christopher Lee sleepwalks through his role, but a damn good movie overall)
The Mummy (my favorite of the Universal classics)
Freddy Got Fingered
American Splendor
RSVP
My Bloody Valentine
The Eye (if you liked The Ring, check out this badboy)
Ringu
Audition
Darkwater
Ju-On (being remade with Sarah Michelle Gellar as "The Grudge")
Stir Of Echos (much much better than "The Sixth Sense" which it's unfairly compared to)
Frenzy (my favorie Hitchcock film)
The African Queen
Plan 9 From Outer Space
Dead Alive aka Braindead
BasketCase
Frankenhooker
Tormeo And Juliet
Eye Of The Needle
Raiders of The Lost Ark
Russian Ark
Crumb

I could go on and on :)

Vick 04-30-2004 03:16 PM

Sykk - How did you leave out "The Maltese Falcon"?

DrGuile 04-30-2004 03:16 PM

I wont repeat what others said,

but

Casino and Die Hard I are both classics in very different genres ;)

Vick 04-30-2004 03:20 PM

Do I see no John Wayne flicks either?

Rooster Cogburn - great interplay between Wayne and Kathrine Hepburn

MissEve 04-30-2004 03:30 PM

I can't believe you guys like Vanilla Sky so much. I think its one of the worst movies Ive ever seen :( Maybe I'm missing something.

That's a great movie - watched it recently on one of the classic movie stations. Not a big Wayne fan myself ... I acutally liked him more in a whole series of B-flick seafarer movies than I did in most of the big-budget films he made later.

Sykk ... please tell me you are talking about the original Mummy, not the one made in the 90s.

Nope, I think the same of some of the above movies - even some of the "classics". Just personal taste.

Almighty Colin 04-30-2004 03:52 PM

Another of my faves no one mentioned ... "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"

Agreed. I felt I had wasted 2+ hours watching it. :(

And Colin, CTHD was also awesome! :okthumb:

Almighty Colin 04-30-2004 04:04 PM

Another MIA ... "Boiler Room".

MissEve 04-30-2004 04:09 PM
