Then you pop back off with some crap about 100% of the "imported" oil, which had nothing to do with anything, other than I think you saw the 100% and got all happy without paying much attention to what you were even talking about. Just go back to sleep. Last edited by [Labret] at Dec 7 2003, 07:37 PM |
"Oil FLOWING INTO THE COUNTRY" was the key to the question as I saw it... You didn't say 100% of their oil supply....
You can try to make it mean whatever you want it to mean, but it reads as "imports" to me.... :yowsa: |
And I was not tryting to fool you with the 100%...
I was pointing out that we imported at that point 1.2 million barrels a day and during the embargo that was reduced to 19,000 barrels a day.... lets see 19,000 by 1.2 million means that imports were reduced to 1.5% of thier pre embargo levels meaning 98.5% of imported oil was cut off.... That is pretty damn close to 100% of the imports.... |
And where do you think Japan was getting all of its oil? From those massive Japanese oil fields? Nearly 100% of its oil was imported.
Faced with losing it all, they moved onto the Dutch East Indies to fuel their war machine. And we all know what happens next. The Zipperheads were not faced with an Opec style embargo. I have a paper to do. Back later, I promise. |

First of all, I never "fought", as such ... spend some time in antisubmarine warfare, which was as "close to the edge" as things got between 74-78, but we were still recovering from Vietnam and not in a hurry to go kill a bunch of small brown people at the time (unless you count Reagan's Lybian hissyfit or the Grenadian excursion).
Am I an American? Well, I'm liberal, so MikeAI doesn't think so sometimes. Nevertheless, I am the descendent of good German Bürgers, some of whom defended a St. Louis armory from the traitors and kept Missouri in the Union; and of your typical escaped indentured servants of Scottish and Irish origin who came to Missouri with Daniel Boone when Ohio got too croweded (but departed his company after a "dispute" over the ownership of some horses). Had a great uncle on my mother's side who was a member of the IWW, and a (whatever the hell my father's 2nd cousin would be) who was deported back to Germany for membership in the Bund. I spent a great deal of my teen years in VERY active opposition to the Vietnam war, then dropped out of college and joined the U.S. Navy in December, 1973. BTW, anyone who thinks there is the least bit of inconsistency there is a fucking moron. While I was in boot camp the oil embargo hit, and my Company Commander assured us daily that we would soon be going to war with the "A-rabs"; the price of gas had more than doubled during my 9 weeks in training. My mother's father was a doughboy. My father joined the U.S. Coast Guard in mid-1940, and was very disappointed when he found out his plan to defend the Mississipi River had a small hole in it - when Pearl Harbor came, he was looking for German submarines in the North Atlantic. My mother's brother lied and joined the USMC at 16. Am I an American? I think I qualify. Quote:
But in spite of your bigotry, there are all kinds of intelligent people in the military services who are there because that's what they want to be doing. I know plenty of high-school-dropout enlisted guys who have no more education than that available from a library card who could rip you into tiny little shreds in a debate on just about any subject imaginable. And it doesn't take a lot of intelligence to recognize that only a fucking fool WANTS to go die in a sand pit or a jungle - but somebody has to protect the cowards who avoid reality in academia, and are WILLING to go die if necessary. |

In fact, many RETIRED military, who already have careers, training, education, etc. signed back up. Since my son is attempting to enlist, I can tell you it is NOT easy. He has genius IQ (hope he's not reading this....), took AP classes in HS (including AP calculus - he obviously got his math skills from his GA Tech father and NOT from me) and he very well may not get in because he broke his arm 5 years ago and has a metal plate in it. The lines are so long at the recruiting offices that they can and do cherry pick who goes into the military. In addition, I read a popular military message board almost every day. It's an anonymous board, so there would be no retribution, and I bet out of 500+ posts a day, I've seen 10 posters in the last 6 months who were being deployed to Iraq have any hint of misgivings for signing up OR going to combat. Again, you're so out of touch with the caliber of men and women currently serving in the military that I wonder where you get your information from. Surely you're not making statements without some frame of reference. Seriously, it does amaze me how out of touch with ACTUAL human behavior and society you are for someone who has spent so many years studying it. Do you not have a wide circle of friends and family you can discuss things with or must everything come from a text book or lecture? :( |
We're dealing with alot of young folx who just do not understand words like "honor" and "duty". They're used to everything being given to them and not having to work for anything.
The difference between them and the WWII generation is frightening. And that generation is very rapidly dying off, hopefully their values are not lost forever. |
ok, all done, time to play.
Illegal? Listen up peckerwood, beast porn is not illegal. Find me that law that says it is and I will shave your back for you. We have obscenity laws. Obscene is defined at the local and state level. ANYONE making content in the good ol USA runs the risk. Quote:
Give me a damn break. Now you got eveyone in the military painted as a damn flag waiving genius. Cut the shit, I saw Jessica Lynch make her speech, AND I grew up very close to an Army base and a Navy base, I was in touch with those geniuses on a daily basis. You are fooling nobody. Most of my younger male cousins enlisted, oh how I wish you could meet them, true geniuses in a backwoods "gonna kill me some sand niggers" sorta way. I am well aware there are some bright minds in the military, we have a large ROTC program on my campus and I have quite a few of them in my classes. Imagine that, leaders of people wanting to learn more about people. Are they the exception or the rule? Last edited by [Labret] at Dec 7 2003, 09:00 PM |

Enlisted folks are the grunts - the factory workers of the military organization. They are probably no worse educated than workers at that level in ANY organization - and I'd suspect a little better, but have no contemporary facts to prove it. Jessica Lynch is no more, nor any less, articulate than a supply clerk at Boeing, IBM, Jenny Craig or Freddy's Auto Parts - and there is no need for her to be. And I suspect that the officers you come into contact with are typical. Most of them have narrow, bigoted minds like yours that can absorb facts and spit them out, and make the judgements expected of them in whatever specialty they have (academic or military). They sneer condescendingly (in probably the same tone you take) about eggheads like you. |
Labret, are you trying to make me laugh at your posts or is it unintentional on your part? :)
A few of your dumb cousins enlisted, so "Most people now join the military for college money or vo-tech skills." yet you then go on to talk about the " large ROTC program on [your] campus" and admit that many are even taking the same classes you are. B) So....which one do you think is the exception? My reading 500+ posts for 6 months on a military board says it's your dumb cousins. :awinky: And you make comments on "people now join[ing] the military" and basing your opinion on those you knew growing up - I'm guessing at least 10 years ago??! :P BTW, Jessica Lynch was a supply clerk. Go chat with one of the supply clerks at your illustrious college and tell us how smart THEY are. It's fun to read your posts, but I'm headed to bed. G'night! :inlove: |
Alaska was bombed and invaded by the Japanese. Why dont people remember that? What about those who defended Alaska? What about those who were also bombed while sitting in their living rooms in Dutch Harbor?
Strange how history has forgotten that. |
You are a very angry "liberal".
Quote:
This is a common thread on the board thus far from you highschool grads, that those of us in college are just mindless spitters of facts, nothing else required of us. Lemme tell you all how it works. During the course of a 3 and half month semester, I am given a ton of theory with various facts and figures to deal with in whatever the topic of the class is. Each professor is different in their testing style, but you will find when you reach upper division (I hate to say that as you think I will just be placing myself on a pedestal, but it really is called "upper division") level courses, the professors tend to expect a little more from you. Therefore they tend to test you on your ability to bring everything you learned together. This is not how you made it through highschool, memorization is not enough. Testing is not simple "Describe such and such theory", it is more like "use theory a in light of findings of theory b to describe whatever damn scenario". Every test I take these days revolves around my ability to bring everything I have learned together. If I successfully defend myself, I pass. If I do not, I do not pass. What a warped warped view you people have of higher education. |
Didn't that happen substantially later than Pearl Harbor?

You think its bad there? Its horrific in academia. All these bastards do is sit around all day and bash each other. Except they do it from on high. You want to meet some serious annoying bastards, phd candidates who are like academic celebs. There are rockstars of the academic and ideological worlds you know that right? Man, hate those fucking guys. But what are ya gonna do... argue with them? ahahah riiiiight. But then again, I see the same thing just on Fox itself. Just look at the people who have jumped onto the neocon scene to become the leaders, people like Ann Coulter and Bill OReilly or Hannity, god I love that shit. You know old schooler right leaners must hate these cocksuckers. Although I must admit, I read Coulters last one, Treason. That is one evil smart bitch. I hate her, but I love her. She is such a vitriolic nutcase angry smart bitch, you cant help but want to grunge fuck her. I hate people, but I love people. Live with that pain every day. I found some beer, not good. |
I know a little about academia ... my first father in law (PhD in chemistry from Michigan) ended up working for Monsanto because he had the silly idea that football players were subject to the same academic standards as normal everyday students. My second father in law also had a PhD, although his was in English. I also have several friends who teach advanced level courses in a different disciplines at both Washington and St. Louis Universities in St. Louis.
As far as officers go, just like with surgeons, lawyers, and pilots, if you are going to lead a bunch of people "into the face of death" you want them confident. They can be insufferable - but they need to be that way. What I've found is that it doesn't make a difference if you are the "rising star" upper level associate/junior partner at the law firm, the "fair-haired boy" (or girl) of the department chair, the hotshot MBA in finance, or the "top gun" pilot in a military squadron. Most of them burn out - some of them spectacularly, others slowly and gradually. Some of them get beaten down, as often by people with more political skills as by people with more talent. And of the ones who survive, a great many don't live up to the hype. And to quote my favorite Navy Chief Petty Officer ... "in 20 years 3 billion red fucking Chinese will not give a shit." funny stuff sometimes. 'According to Victor Ostrovsky, a Mossad defector now living in Canada, Ronald Reagan was tricked into bombing Libya by means of a radio transmitter smuggled into Tripoli by the Mossad, which broadcast messages designed to fool the United States into thinking Libya was about to launch a massive terror attack on the west. On the basis of this fake evidence, the US bombed Libya, killing Khadaffi's daughter.' http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/lavon.html Last edited by Fletch XXX at Dec 8 2003, 10:45 AM |

who did who to whom, when, why and who is to blame is just semantics and there is no right answer. "right" or "wrong" depends merely on ones perspective and which side of the fence you are/were on.
Japan was lashing out in every direction for quite some time. without looking i know they invaded almost every neighbor at one time including Korea, China, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan etc etc etc. I am not going to go back and look up dates and arguments to justify or defend anyones behavior and lay blame for Pearl Harbor, but i will say that it was a different time adn that CONGRESS and the President agreed to do what they feel was the best move. I think its a little crazy to say "japan killled 200,000 people in China" etc etc etc and the US did nothing... then when the US does something, criticise that as well, by characterizing it as provacative behavior. |
I stopped reading about 2/3rds of the way down the first page. Just had to comment that I find it hilarious that Labret doesn't know what "imports" means, and his efforts to backtrack and cover that ignorance just got him dug in deeper. :okthumb: :okthumb:

another game of watch me dig up bizarre info from sites no ones ever heard of before as if it matters. this is not GFY. amazing how 6 billion people are so easily misled by a few people and the only ones who can uncover it are conspiracy theorists no one has ever heard of and the only place these "facts" turn up is in some bizarre corner of the web. <life hint> people post bullshit on the web all the time. more so than main stream journalists print, publish or televise. its easy to do and goes unchallenged because people recognize it for the bullshit that it is. </ life hint> |

You know Serge and others here are also Jewish. Isn't it time for some new material? You remind me of a guy who has been buying beer for kids for the last few years while trying to party with and impress them misguided wit and insight into the "real truths" of life... who suddenly tries to grow up and leave that teenage house party and try to hang with the adults. At least when you were talking about literature, you were sounding like less of an idiot. Don't ruin that image for us. For a while, you were almost normal. |
