The subject: NCAA Football

The question: Who has the better record in the Ohio State - Michigan
rivalry?

The answer: Neither. They are tied. The NCAA was formed in 1905. Since
1905, the Ohio State - Michigan series stands at 44-44-5.

In the category of NCAA football, the teams are also tied in National
Championships at seven each, since Fielding Yost's four titles (all shared)
came in 1901-1904. Before 1905 the field was 110 yds long and striped in a
checkerboard pattern, touchdowns were worth 5 points and field goals 4. A
team, after scoring a touchdown, retook possession of the ball on the
ensuing kickoff. So did the team that missed its attempt at a drop kick,
which was still a common play at the time. These rules made it considerably
easier for a team to keep possession of the ball away from their opponents,
running up the score and shutting out the opposition as Michigan did during
their '01-'04 run.

Use these facts to remind the Wolverines in your life, the next time they
boast of their dominance in the rivalry, that they truly are living in the
past.

GO BUCKS!! BEAT MICHIGAN!!

HAHAHAHA, poor, poor, little buckeye. I bet it took you all day to figure out which year to start at to come up with a 44-44-5 record! And how convenient that you are able to just wipe out the other games.

It doesn't really matter since apparently they don't require you to know how to count to attend OSU.

Since 1905 (let me help you little buckeye, we will use your logic and start with the game played on 10-20-06 and exclude the game that MICHIGAN won in 1905):

The record stands at: 50 wins for Michigan. 37 wins for OSU and 5 ties.

So very very very sad. And to think people are actually paying money to attend OSU.

JMM 11-21-2003 01:17 PM

And, since you want to talk dominance:

Since 1905, MICHIGAN has outscored osu 1382-1182

There have been 30 shutouts since 1905, guess which way that one leans: MICHIGAN has shutout osu 20 times.

We don't need to talk about dominance, the facts speak for themselves.

Grimm, let me know if you are having a hard time understanding any of this and I will use smaller words.

grimm 11-21-2003 01:42 PM

JMM

9-2 buddy.

anyway, dont talk to me about numbers, anyone who knows me knows i know more stats and obscure college football facts than any reasonable person should;)

and the nNCAA was formed in 1905....

and your claim of numbers is just wrong, look it up, it is one of the most closely contested rivalries in hostory.

and what the hell are you doing in sunny california, you should be here in ann arbor, knocking back a few and talking football.. mike told me you are from detroit rock city, so why wont your ass be freezing off next to mine,
buddy:)

id be wil;ling to be, osu broings 50k fans to the big house aqnd they are louder than michigan fans, michigan fans have to be the quietest in the nation. buckeyes are loud, not as loud as badgers, that jump around crap is downright thrilling, feels like camp randall is going to collapse.

so come on, hop a flight out, i have coaches tickets, you can sit up close and we can keep each other warm mr wolverine fan:)

grimm 11-21-2003 01:45 PM

and it doesnt take me forever to come up with facts, ive been on planes trains and automobiles to get to ann arbor, on an aol dialup, and this board takes freaking forever to load, so i gotta budget my oprano time. plus i gotta fix my fat finger errors, this is cutting into my drinking time. as a matter of fact JMM, im missing important refills:)

by the way, beware 9i9 banannas, tastes good, perfect liquor to smuggle into a game, but you may miss the second half.

goes good with coffee tho:)

JMM 11-21-2003 01:46 PM

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have coaches tickets and you didn't tell me this yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

Anyway, my numbers are CORRECT.

The record since 1905 is as I stated 50-37-5 in favor of MICHIGAN.

Your numbers are 100% WRONG.

I'm considering hopping that flight. IF I do, you promise you won't hold it against me that I called you gay in another thread????????

grimm 11-21-2003 01:48 PM

History is a friend who has nothign current to boast about.

the bengals used to be good too:)

grimm 11-21-2003 01:51 PM

hey i damn near had to blow a gate attendant to get here:)

and i havecoaches tic,ets to every OSU game, including the fiesta bowl;)

networking!

and i have no problem with the gay thing, as long as you amit you converted me.

one more ticket may be hard to get:)

grimm 11-21-2003 01:54 PM

doesnt add up 50-37 and 5..this is the 100th meeting....

missing 8 ganes, and dont tell me scUM rattled off 8 straight in the first 8 meetings. ill give you a coupld off because of tghe wars, but thoise were still played, as far as i know.

Stop making this so easy!!!!

50-37-5 adds up to 92

This is the 100th meeting which means 99 games have been played prior to tomorrows game.

If we start with the game played in 1906, that eliminates the games played in 1905, 1904, 1903, 1902, 1901, 1900, and 1897 (6 of which MICHIGAN won, the 7th was a tie).

If you add those up, it equals 7.

99 minus 7 equals 92.

I'll come to an OSU game in the shoe next year. I have to watch this game tomorrow with my son. We have a 15 year tradition of watching the game together. I even gave up field passes when they played for the national championship because my son wasn't old enough to be on the field!

Have fun, and try not to get hurt.

grimm 11-21-2003 02:18 PM

so where are the missing 8 years? wars?

There are only 7 games missing.

The first two that are missing are 1898 and 1899. War wasn't the problem. MICHIGAN beat osu in 1897 36-0 and it took some time before osu stopped sobbing.

The next games that are missing are 1913-1917, war.

Grimm, can we at least agree on one thing? The SEC and ACC can suck our BIG TEN dicks? Can we agree on that?

Note, if reading aloud, add the word 'inch' after the word 'TEN' when the term "BIG TEN dicks' is preceeded by 'JMM' (adjust plural as needed, i.e. The SEC and ACC can suck JMM's BIG TEN INCH dick) Not necessary when discussing Grimm.

my numbers were not that off, i foprgot the 12-0-2 start, anmd the wars accounted for more. but then again, which one of us was alive back then

anyuway im going to have a blst, win or lose. and the coaches tickets mean i get to stand with buckeyes and i might not end up in jail:)

grimm 11-21-2003 02:37 PM

Grimm, go have more drinks, I have this one covered.

Buff, Buff, Buff...

There was only one SEC vs. Big Ten game this year, Kentucky beat Indiana. Congrats, but I wouldn't go hanging your hat on that one.

Let's go back to last years bowl games, shall we?

There were only 3 SEC victories. The first was Mississippi beating Nebraska. The second was Auburn beating Penn State.

The third was because two SEC teams were playing EACH OTHER. Georgia beat Florida State.

So let's review the SEC's bowl game outcomes of 2002, shall we?

Florida - LOST
Florida State - LOST
Georgia - Beat Florida State (another SEC team)
Tennesee - LOST
South Carolina - No bowl game
Kentucky - No bowl game
Vanderbilt - No bowl game
Mississippi - BEAT NEBRASKA
LSU - LOST
Auburn- Beat Penn State
Arkansas - LOST
Alabama - No bowl game
Mississippi State - No bowl game

Now let's look at the Big 10:

Michigan BEAT Florida
Ohio State BEAT Miami (not really, but this post I will let it slide)
Purdue BEAT Washington
Minnesota BEAT Arkansas
Iowa LOST to USC
Michigan State No bowl game
Wisconsin BEAT Colorado
Northwestern No bowl game
Indiana No bowl game
Penn State LOSt to Auburn
Illinois No bowl game.

Yup Buff...I suppose in the fantasy world you live in each day, that SEC is quite a conference!!!

Florida State is ACC not SEC. They should be SEC, and so should Miami, but neither is, unfortunately.
