I don't know either.. but I reckon it's prolly a question best left unanswered if my intuition is anything to go by ;-)) Last edited by Opti at Sep 18 2003, 06:47 AM |
Opti,Bex,
Sorry about that, I guess I have a twisted mind. ;-))) I was just reading it as follows: "swapping databases" = very immoral. "gambling" = is considered by many very immoral and a vice. So I thought it sounded a bit like... "Remember when we were planning to rob that bank and over heard those scumbags talking about about whacking those guys" or "When I hacked that guys web site and found his emails planning rthat robbery" ahhhhh fuck it....never mind...I guess its just me. I'm easily amused. I'm a crossbill away from becoming fully Kremened beyond all belief. ;-))) |
Oh, my intuition was wrong :( yeah that's Ironic..
Should have left it to the imagination Like I suggested! What I had in mind was a much more interesting scenario! >:)) (sorry Toolz :P ) |
Ok...

No shit!! I was on the next table playing blackjack, talking about exchanging databases!! (Happier now?) ;-)))) |
Nah.. I feel a let down.... the reality just couldn't cut it with the fantasy... but I'm almost over it now. ;-))

Nick,
The way Bex and I gamble can be more akin to "Helping pay for the toliets in the hotel" Though the Venetian may seem like a big heartless corporation if we didn't stop in and donate money to them there'd be no where to expell all the free booze they give you, it's a vicious circle. |

I consider it tipping on a grand scale. ;-)) Now back to your original thread....and not wishing to be the pot calling out the kettle, but I reckon its gotta be Seth. but Mike is right...there are so many. |

I would guess that not one of the really big ones has been mentioned, aside from Crescent and Taves.

Will be interesting to see in three years time what names will be added to the list, as well as who will still be around to add them. |
Drav,
I'm sure we'll all still have PC's in three years time, what we're doing with them.... that'll be another story. |
Biggest scammers in the biz over the past IMHO include CE, Aussies (including about everyone Cj has ever worked for), Crescent, Babenet, and many more.
Surpised several of these have not been mentioned yet. |

Let us not forget Xpics...
IMO they, along with Crescent, are probably two of the companies whose actions are most responsible for the billing climate we're in today. During the Xpics hay day newbies were flooding the net, and it was like shooting fish in a barrel to get them to cough up a credit card number for "free" access to porn. Xpics had slick ads, slick tours and once they had that credit card number they'd slam that bad boy every month until you cancelled the card itself in most cases. I doubt they were the first to shave, but they definitely popularized it! What did they top out at? 20 cents per click? I dont know what their real formula was, but I do know that at the time there was no other banner or ad that you could put in their place that could make more money consistently. This despite the shave. The checks were large and they showed up every week. And there-in pretty much the entire industry's human nature is exposed. Virtually everyone sent traffic to Xpics in those days, most continued to do so even after it was obvious what was going on. Human nature makes it tough to cut your own income by say 50% to pull their ads and replace them with someone more honest. It was easy to rationalize. It wasn't like spam or beastiality or anything like that because the webmaster drew no heat. All they had to do was keep cashing those checks that showed up every week like clockwork. Easy to tell yourself, hey, i'm just selling them traffic, none of my business what they do with it! |

being more successful than you doesn't make someone a scammer - especially considering the things you do these days are the same as the things the aussies did years ago ... there's plenty of things for you to attack *me* with brad, no need to bring other people into it that you know nothing about!! :okthumb: |

But I have no proof or any first hand knowledge... but i heard someone else say it once... and also he was too small time to bother mentioning in this thread I thought... What did this guy do... take you for $7.50 Brad? maybe apply for a job writing advice columns for Ynot when you grow up.. (Did I see people posting somewhere that Brad wasn't going to be challenging for the resident fool anymore??) |
