So you add that up
around 2500 people make $500k+ a year

If 2500 people made at least $500,000 then everyone in the top 2500 would average more than $500,000. Spread over 2500 people the average would have to be in the millions. $2 million x 250,000 is $5 billion which is more than the annual number given by Timon above.

But realistically, the #1 on an income list will have to be MUCH higher than 4x higher than the 2500th. Just look at the Forbes 400. The top person makes about 20x more than just the 100th person.

I bet you're high by a factor of 10.

*KK* 07-09-2003 12:10 PM

How much will the average guy be grossing come Oct 1?

my brain is not working. i was using my brain all weekend trying to think of
the perfect nickname to best communicate my success in life... but
"mrbling" is now taken.

all you have left me with
is "pimpbling", "blingplaya", "$blingpimp", "pimp$playerbling",
"bigcockplayerpimp" and "pootis".

:(

Hooper 07-09-2003 12:12 PM

It's all about da bling bling cha ching.

mrbling, what you just described by it's very definition is a shrinking margin for freesite owners :)

conversions take a shit, you still have exactly the same fixed costs per click. thus, margins have shrunk. that is unless your sponsors have increased your pay per signup to counteract that conversion drop.

JR 07-09-2003 12:13 PM

but Colin, wouldn't you agree that a safe bet is that 80% of the revenue is controlled by 20% of the people/companies? if we knew the value of the business, it would be probably the safest guess to just use Paretos law as a general guide.

Almighty Colin 07-09-2003 12:14 PM

There's no way there are 200 TGP owners making $35,000 /month. The 200th TGP is at 30k visitors/day which is nowhere near enough TGP traffic to make $35,000 in a month. Probably not even enough to make $3500 in a month.

Robbie posted this himself on the maxcash board within the last 6-12 months so I guess it isnt telling tales out of school to say that AL4A was doing just under 50k/pm at that time.. (if you read the thread you would have believed he was being straight imo)

there may be 10 around his size.. and to best of my knowledge it drops off very fast from there..

dont be scared Optibling.

the demand for porn is not likely to drop anytime soon. a lot of the "pimps" and "playas" of today will probably be found in the pimp graveyard by new years and they will be replaced by normal professional business people. i think that is something to look forward to.

Opti and I were discussing that above.

If true, you know the .80 number but nothing at all about the distribution.

If you know that online porn revenue is $2.5 billion/year and also know there are x companies, then you would know that
$2 billion is made by x/5 companies. Doesn't really give us more information than we started with other than an average. We don't know x anyway and even if we did it wouldn't help much.

there should be a difference
between a player and a whaler

player - millionaire
whaler - 20+ millionaires

This needs to be added into the Oxford dictionary.

Indeed :)

Nickatilynx 07-09-2003 12:52 PM

It is easy to gross a million a mth.......get paid in Lira ;-=)))

Seriously though the "net" is the number to be interested in.

I reckon there are maybe 10 playas netting 5m a yr
Another 30 netting 1m plus.
Maybe 200 netting 500k.

With regd to major tgp/link list operators...they ,like everyone else, have ventured into other areas.I bet "so and so's Bookmarks" represents a minority of so and so's income now.

ie In 1997 I was purely a freesite operator doing the AVS trick and blinding the living shit out surfers
By 1998 se's were rocking
1999 added some freehosts in order to add some water to Serge's soup ;-))
Built some paysites.
2000 brokered traffic.

I think the day of being just a paysite owner or freesite owner has gone.

Now we have to be Jacks of all trades.

Regds,

$50,000 for 2.8 million visitors. Let's see, For the 200th guy on Sex Tracker with 30,000 visitors/day, that means he's making ...let's see. blah blah blah, carry the 2, blah blah blah $17.86! ;-)

Nick had the main point here - it is Net vs. Gross. The original post was "gross revenue" and not "what people make" = Net.

I would think there are quite a few people Grossing $1 mill.

BradShaw 07-09-2003 01:28 PM

I think this thread should be closed to anyone without atleast 7 figures in the bank.

Shit, if I was as rich as my gross, I could almost post more!

I would be happy to discuss profit margins with friends in private anytime. Who knows, one of us may learn something.

can I count those figures before I pay the bills and purchase my bling bling :P

BradShaw 07-09-2003 01:48 PM

Dan start counting;-)

I am always open to business advise, especially from people who I know are as successful, or more successful than I am. (I always read everything marc de posts about business and finances).

But, I do not care for people posting on business chat boards/threads who can not balance a check book, get a car loan/mortgage, or have any business sense at all to make money. Not calling anyone out, there are a several people who value their online lives and persona more than reality, money in the bank.

*KK* 07-09-2003 02:15 PM

I wonder how many people in this business would want the IRS to see emails where they not only admit to, but encourage others, to willfully defraud the IRS?

BradShaw 07-09-2003 02:39 PM

Nick, good point about being a jack of all trades. I am fortunate that my income comes from many sources, just not paysites. Also glad I do not depend too much on still content, as the floor dropped out of the market. All about many eggs in many baskets that has enabled me to turn a small profit for several years.

No doubt the market is getting tougher and tougher, and we are starting to see more people either leave the business, or crack under the pressure. People became accustomed to easy $, and like every business, it does not last long.

Just glad I put in those 18 hour days for 3 years straight to lay a strong foundation that will survive as long as I want it to.

Nick, still market will come back around, thats why we have not dropped prices at fresh photos, to keep our stuff exclusive. Day will come again where people will pay $500 ($1 a photo) for quality stuff that is not everywhere.

Brad, I think so also, you should have to "pay" for the exclusive quality pics, but the cheap(filler) stuff will be around also. Hell everyone has a 200/300 buck digital camera but me, and seems like it's no prob getting talent either.

But it'll wash out here shortly
