I'm blessed. I use nothing but mac. It turns itself off when i'm not using it. turns itself back on as soon as i sit down at it and move the mouse (takes about 2 seconds to come out of sleep)

My pc's had that sleep feature... but about 90% of the time it didnt work, didnt come back up, crashed going down, and when it did work it took 2-3 minutes to really get up and down anyways.

I can relate to that. (Not the Mac part, never used one in my life :P
The Windows sleep mode I can relate to. A total disaster waiting to happen. Every other time one of my systems would go into sleep mode... crash city. Finally gave up and disabled it on all systems.

Good concept though. If Microsoft ever gets a sleep mode that works good, I'd use it.

Using power saver settings to power down the monitor is worthwhile. But sleep mode is just plain and simply broken even in XP.

Wow, cool.

Did everyone start doing this themselves or see someone else doing it first? I had a friend in college that had a computer before I did. He never turned his computer off and I just picked up the habit.

Its an old habit from running a BBS.
Pervs are pervs...and they get pissed off if they cant get a carrier or busy signal after theyve paid $20 a year to download porn.

It somewhat works for me but for some reason the Wi-Fi doesn't come back up when it comes out of sleep mode making me to have to reboot, which kind of defeats the purpose of leaving it on in the first place...

Vulnerable to what? A guy who is willing to spend 2 weeks figuring out to break into your PC to find there's nothing but a bunch of stale porn and lame video games?
They're after that file on your hard drive called passwords.doc :-P

(I can imagine that comment will start a round of renamed files) ;-)

Just the opposite here. If I shut'r down at night, in the morning it acts all stupid on startup.

But I've always left the puter on anyways. Like someone else said, all you get is time wasted in the morning downloading 900 spams. I like my system on, it doesn't cost all that much extra to have it on and it saves me a lot of time.

And since my tv doesn't recieve emails or ICQ's, I shut it the hell off when I leave the house.

i started it on my own after i moved from Win 98 to Win 2000

win2k is so stable i leave it on for weeks at a time without a need to reboot, but i do turn my monitor off at night or when i leave

SykkBoy 06-16-2003 02:42 AM

I'm still using good old Win98 and I had a hard drive that was loud as hell, so just always turned it off and now it's a habit, I always turn the computer off when I go to bed unless I'm defragging. If I leave it on, when I get up for my late night piss, I might actually site down and start "woring" again or start wasting time at slingo.com or pogo.com when I really should be getting more sleep.
