Post a question on the board asking if other Affiliates have recieved their checks.
Andrew, what are you reffering to?

hibbidiji 05-29-2003 08:42 PM

I assumed your question was referring to affiliate program not board sponsor.

Andrew,
my question ARTE about board sponsor,
Oprano is running the board, not affiliate proggy...

Quick question for you Serge...

What is the nature of the dirt? IE- is it the "dirt" personal in nature or business in nature? Money now is better than money in the future and risking money now for some dirt that is just personal in nature is different than risking that money now for dirt that has to do with business.

the nature of the dirt:
sponsor doubled crossed XYZ (Mr Woods, for example, whom we all know and love) on the business deal.
That's business and that's worthy of a post because that business could effect yours. Now if you had said he was caught with a tranny hooker, for example, well then I'd keep my mouth shut because you can't invest back in Oprano with that lost money because you talked about something someone did with a hooker.

hibbidiji 05-29-2003 08:48 PM

Noted, sorry about the mistake. I was assuming the question carried over from the dirt on the Advertiser.

Winetalk.com 05-29-2003 08:48 PM

Andrew,
you never answered question #2 but I have

Situation number 3....

situation..
3 months passed since you started working for Oprano and the Gross went down 7%..

Board buisness has LOTS of shades of gray

hibbidiji 05-29-2003 08:52 PM

I'd light whatever fire was necessary to get more posters and more sponsers coming on board. Or if all else fails schedule meeting with Serge and Mike Ai to discuss raising advertising consts 10% with a net gain of 3%! Whens my next raise?

hibbidiji 05-29-2003 08:55 PM

My answer to board sponsor late on payment would be Call them and if the phone was out of service of I could not locate the number even though whois or antything then what Sykk said.

OK.
If I'M running the board and managing things then I will be keeping good track of which money is coming from where so I'd know the answers to theses questions:

Is this a loss of sponsership money?
Is this a technical issue - server / bw etc?
Is this a case of too much being spent on promotions / contests?
or is it none of these?

That's an easy one - sic John on them. :awinky:

And if gross went down 7% after you came on board, volunteer to take a 10% cut in pay until you got it back up the 7%, plus an addition 3%. :agrin:

Sponsor, schmonsor,

We all know the 7% drop is due to Serge's loss on the market this week, only way to make up for it is begin stealing trash from offices of S&P 500 firms and give Gecko, I mean Serge a good stock tip.

Skills? I've been to your dinners, requirements should include getting Billy in the kitchen to cook up some real seafood, these Vegas restaurants don't have anything on his supposed clam bakes, sounds like a front to smoke the illegal tobacco to me.

How do you get people to read the board? Send the 80% of the population who didn't pass 8th grade English back to class to pass high school equivalency tests.

See you don't need Mutt, all your answers are right in front of you.

sarettah 05-29-2003 10:23 PM

Hell... If I knew you were interviewing, I woulda worn a frigging tie....

Bell 05-29-2003 10:58 PM

it's a REAL situation, correct ??

who OWES you ??

have they toatly disappeared - or just making themselves
unavailable to you ??

you did get a copy of their DL or similar doc faxed prior to ad placement,
correct ??

you did postal mail something that required a verifcation of delivery
signature way back in week one of board ad placement, correct ??

you did check with their local post office for a mail forwarding
tick, didn't you ??

you did require a copy of a current utility bill in their name
way back in week one, correct ??

you did call the deadbeats neighbors to see if they know where their
neighbor might have moved to, correct ??

you did call the phone company to see if there is a new listing
for them elsewhere (perhaps they moved and have new service)...

you did call their local newspaper to confirm delivery is ongoing,
correct ??

there's tons of othr things you could do if the time and effort is
worth the potential collection $$ - sometimes the time and effort
is better spent elsewhere (Board growth and NEW business -
as opposed to tracing deadbeats... that always seem to resurface
at some point...)

in any event... good luck...

you're doing good - hibbidiji. . .

but I personally think that anyone that has "the DV" offering to
help them in their business and doesn't JUMP on that - - - just might
not realllllly be hiring... :D

You just answered your own questions ... the background checks you suggested above are a rediculous waste of resources. The customers banners could have been removed and a new sponsor found to replace them in 1/10 of the time it would take you to do all that background checking.

Especially seeing oprano plus doesn't charge much for advertising ... you just spent 3 times the cost of a month of advertising on checking up on the person ...
I'll take a loss of 1 month advertising revenue over all that extra headache anyday.

I've yet to see an applicant volunteer information on how they would bring in traffic and advertisers ... anyone?

situation..

your thoughts:

Thats certainly a real world question these days with the oversaturation of resources.

Id answer with ...determine what changed and then react.

Changes in this industry come from outside a resource as much as from the inside.
External conditions exist that each resource must react/adapt to in order to survive.

You cant fix a problem unless you know the nature of it.

Newbie advice boards always did the trick for traffic, looks like Dokk is starting a new one =)

Why not combine Oprano with Voltar's newbie board and bring him on as webmaster. There you go :bjump:

this is a bold claim...

do you mind be interviewed right here?

here is the situation...

The board you are running is slow,
you got the dirt on one of your sponsors.

would you post it and stir shit, risking to lose his business, or not?
There are always other solutions, and when all else fails, go right to the top. If they are a longtime sponsor and friend, (or not), they at least deserve to discuss the matter. If they are still causing problems, quietly drop them, but inform them in email as to why they've been dropped and explain your feelings in the situation. Honesty isn't always the easy way, but it's the BESt way, and who's to say that person isn't going to wake up and smell the coffee later? Don't burn bridges in business.

Well, lessee...

I would probably go over to GFY and make up a new poisonality... and I would go in and chum up with the GFY regs for a day or so...

Then I would publicly call Serge out on GFY......

Then, of course, being a proud member of Oprano I would have to come back here under my own identity and post a thread to the GFY thread, pointing it out to Serge (in 5 words or less)....

Then I would go back to GFY and wait for serge... boasting all kinds of shit... Getting the natives restless.... While waiting for the mad russian to show up, I would post links to the thread or drop it in discussion on as many boards as possible.... Once Serge showed up, I would fight for a bit on GFY and crosspost onto Oprano as both myself and as my GFY personality..... Thereby getting the Oprano natives stirred up.....
I would slowly move the discussion more and more onto Oprano's home court then once things were stirred enough to have traffic flowing, my GFY personality would find an excuse to disappear for a bit.....

Whenever the board slows down... repeat formula across different boards using different variations... Intellectual flame wars with various Oprano members... Knock down drag out wars with various Oprano members... Whatever , you couldn't let them know what you were doiing though .lololol.. :)

Or just have a lot of contests :)

Or a webmaster affiliate program where we pay the webmasters in Oprano stock, 50,000 shares for each new member they refer :)

cj 05-30-2003 03:32 AM

sarettah, i feel you are not taking this situation seriously ... you are making a mockery of a serious webmaster position with a professional, conservative company. What you are suggesting would require opranauts to lower themselves to the standard of GFY webmasters, and as we all know, we are so much more mature than them. This industry has nothing to do with board games & childish teasing, we are professional business people who handle business situations with class & maturity. I think you should go to your room & think about your behaviour for the evening.

:nyanya:

Ironhorse 05-30-2003 04:20 AM

Bottom line is Oprano could benefit from adding value to the board. You need to ask only one question:

Why would new people come to this board? Getting side-winded by diehard right wing battallions only goes so far for entertainment value. Any veterans in this business know Serge or MikeAi so if they haven't made it to the board yet, chances are they will not any time soon. Although you can work to improve on that too!

That leaves new blood, and there is little on this board for newbies. So if that's the audience you're after, resources is the best bet. You can always do something new and fun. Offer freebies, templates, helpfiles, tshirts, stickers, prizes, all those cheesy little gimmicks that work. Alot more folks are joining the porn game because it's the best game in town. All the diggers want new pots, pans, blue jeans, they want them now, cheap, free as always.

Also boardwhores as separate enities/employees help tremendously. There are quite a few in this thread alone. The agents, the minions, the armies of Opranoids are waiting to hatch. The budget allows for 1 ubermaster or 2, stretch at 3, (performance bonuses not included) fresh Opranoids to bring the flock back home.

Listen to the pulse. Oh! And I'm a great cook too!

yeah, but all this shlock has no traffic to sell...so why bother with them?

el pres 05-30-2003 06:18 AM

Although there are a lot of resources/industry news sites around, they all work the same way.
They wait for someone to contact them and give them the info that they post, but by going out and actively seeking links, you can quickly become the best source of industry information.

Maybe consider allowing webmaster interaction on the resources links,
if people have got something to say about a certain program listed in your resources,
be it good, bad or indifferent, give them the means of doing so.

Try to become the place that people check before they use a certain service,
or sign up with an affiliate program.

This should bring in all types of webmaster traffic, from newbies right through to the veterans,
once you have the traffic, you can then approach new advertisers with the facts in hand.

all true,
