traffic.

You gotta thank MikeAI for it,

Happy Thanksgiving all, just got back from dinner, yummy :)

Greenguy, welcome to Oprano, good to see old timers come around here:)

KK, I haven't even said Hello to you lately:( Welcome to the gumbo!!

Cleo, it's all good. I like alot of boards, just never seem to get the time to say hi on all of them. Kat, Tdavid, Dokk, and many others run a great system at adultnetsurprise.

peace

It's nice to hang out with webmasters who seem to understand traffic and seem to have lots of it.

So thats why you came back? ;)

Sounds a bit like a challenge...... ;)

Remember the Netpond Traffic Challenges?................ ;)

Instead of sending raw traffic why don't we see the most joins.

Get different webmasters from differing boards to send traffic to one (independent) affilliate for one day.

Then see who sends the most joins :)

The money due for that traffic could then be sent to a charity.

.....just a thought.

:)

But be careful Nick... you might be surprised just how many motivated middle sized, really well established free site webmasters hang out on GG's board at netsurprise... they will try... most people here won't bother

But I'll play :bdance:

You are right Opti.... It is going to take a lot more to get me motivated to redirect my traffic. It would not be worth my time to make a point. I guess I am getting older.... :P

Plus I really do not have a clue, and in many ways that is very true. in 1996 I did everything. I would recruit girls, take photos, go get them developed, I build HTML, did my own graphics, answered e-mails as girls, if there were issues with the server - I would get on it ( I had read UNIX for Dummies back then) through telnet and try to figure things out. I would trade traffic, submit to SEs, try to harass PK for links, etc... etc...

Now my days as a Webmaster are over, I have not built an HTML page for commercial purposes in years. I do not have passwords to any of my servers, nor to any of my sites. The day to day operation of HiRise is no longer in my hands.

My life has become one of management.... even that I generally just point in a general direction, and then Stan the Man handles the rest. In a way I miss the old days, working 15 hour days, always battling, the excitement, the competition, the comradery, the new and interesting ideas and programs that would come out. The new business angles, the new models, new sites.... but that is ancient history. At least for me. So I guess in many respects I do not have a clue.

So it is only fitting that on Thanksgiving, that I give thanks to my wonderful staff.... at HiRise - Stan the Man running the whole show, Tim as King of the Mailers, Luke the Production Manager, All Day Edd - the man who can fix, build, run, operate ANYTHING at ANYTIME, Billy the problem solver and king of PR, EricP the new kid on the block, a real up and comer.... not to mention Sandy ( mom) who juggles the books of all 12 companies like a champ, and then all the other webmaster/scanner guys at the office. There would be NO HiRise without these fine outstanding, dedicated people. THEY ARE INDEED THE REASON WHY I DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE A CLUE!! B)

Of course there is another tiny company I have no clue about as well, DirectNIC... I am indeed thankful for Sig for making sure all 60 or so employees are churning along....

If it were not for these fine people, I would actually have to work.... and then of course to get a clue.... I :inlove: them all!!

PS - this is my sentimental post for thanksgiving, don't get used to it. Oh and I am sober.... :hic: Seriously!

Nickatilynx 11-29-2002 01:18 AM

Brilliant!!!!

The correct answer :)

Happy Thanksgiving :)

Now that you mention 112 hits - 6 signups, that adds useful traffic info and "qualifies" the signup ratio a bit. The chances of that happening if your average ratio would be 1:500 are rather small. (Colin will now exactly how small! :-)

Art - Less than 1 in 7 million.

Chart
--------
1 in 500 normal.

On 112 hits.

Signups Likelihood
----------- -------------
0 79.9%
1 17.9%
2 1.9%
3 1 in 668
4 1 in 9532
5 1 in 266314
6 1 in 7.2 million

Using Poisson Distribution.

Thanks for the props, Mike - and thanks for having my back all this time! :rokk:

greenguy 11-29-2002 11:44 AM

Nick - Charity? That doesn't sound like my old evil master

Colin - 1:7,000,000 - sweet :)

Mike AI - how much you want for http://www.annes-cam.com ?

Mike AI 11-29-2002 11:47 AM

Green-Guy. e-mail me michael at oprano.com I am sure we can work something out.

:gbounce: :gbounce:

Nickatilynx 11-29-2002 02:39 PM

Ok.....

I would have done what I always did, Greenie. You know gun traffic for about the first 15 mins wait for you Tommy at Steve @ pornqueens to start in on me by icq , phone etc. Then watch you guys ramp up traffic, and at that point quietly turn off my traffic. ;)
:biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh: :biglaugh:

The last time we had a NP Challenge Serge was on the phone asking me : "Are you insane,I pay you 5 cents for each hit!!".

BTW I would have asked the sponsor to send the cheque to me for my onward transmission to the selected charity, namely ,"Community Association of Safe Houses " , as a result of my close association with their numerous good works.

I would ask the selected sponsor to make the cheque payable to the letters of the association being C.A.S.H. :)

I do the best I can people. :)

Vick 11-29-2002 02:50 PM

Ahhhh now I feel much better about that Nick, should have known :awinky:

:hic: to you :hic: to me

Using Poisson Distribution.

Amazing how many things can be manipulated with Poisson...

However, Colin -- your basic premise of 1/500 being normal does not apply to GG traffic -- based on his methods of targeting and what his surfers expect.

lil posion anyone?

GreenGuy is good people without a doubt!
