Ask an American ( my personal fav's are the ones that claim Irish heritage , do the worse accent and have never been near the place and if the were to go would probably be found lying in a pool of there own blood on the floor like labret was) to point to Ireland on a map.....no fucking chance.
but then they cover there lack of intelligence with a big mouth... (the same ones that won't see the set up here...) ;-))) |

He was actually out there HIMSELF taking care of the people in New Orleans that he could personally take care of... Trying to get them to safety. I've listened to him bitching because there were "too many Generals trying to call the shots" and screwing things up... I've listened to parish presidents and a Northshore senator CRYING and pleading for help over the radio... Venting their frustrations that no one was listening, that no one was sending help. One parish president said that his own son called him, begging for food and gas and he couldn't even provide it to his own son, let alone all of the people under his parish... This whole thing has really been unbelievably horrific in so many angles.... I think that Nagin has done a very good job considering all of the things he's had to deal with. And, he cut the bullshit too. People are very appreciative for that... There were all of these officials trying to spin damage control all over the place, and he pushed politics aside and got real with everyone. There was actually a radio guy that did an excellent job of not allowing damage control to be spun on his station... He would interview all of these officials on the radio and the minute they would stop being honest and start trying to spin damage control, he fought with them, yes FOUGHT with them over the radio... It was like nothing I had ever heard in my life... But, back to the point... I think he's trying to slowly start populating the city to try to start giving some people a sense of normalcy and the feel that things are starting to get better, that they are starting to progress. He's not letting everyone back... Right now, he's just letting the people that work in the city go back into the city to do so, and, not even all of them... Just some of them. (That's the last thing I heard on the local news...) I don't think Nagin will take the water pollution lightly at all. I'm sure he'll make sure the people know that the water is contaminated and not useable... They'll just have to find other ways to have water for the things they'll need for now. That's what we were all doing before... And, as for the hurricane coming... I definitely don't think Nagin will take that lightly either. I'm sure he'll be watching the storm very closely and if it looks like it is going to hit us again, I'm sure he'll make sure that those people are out of there before it hits. On that note though... If another one hits us right now and especially if they think it's going to hit as a cat 4 like I heard, we will definitely be SERIOUSLY screwed... Even 40NW, like I am right now... There are still too many trees down... Too much debris laying around... So, I really hope it doesn't hit us because I just don't know what I'd do if we had to deal with another one so soon... |

Re: Is Nagin an idiot ? Or just stupid ?
Nagin is an idiot. This is not hearsay, this has been my impression of him on the numerous occassions I have spent time with him.
I have family who are his peers and some on his staff, who were with him during the whole storm. He is in over his head. There is a leadership vacumn in the City and the State. The area needs to be Federalized - Bush needs to appoint Colin Powell or someone like this to take over the whole area, and the rebuilding. |

It was not long after this widespread embracing of the potato that some genius decided to drop slices of it into a pot of boiling fat. The identity of this individual is unknown; the French claim it was one of their countrymen, while the Belgians fiercely hold that it was one of their own who first frenched a fry. Expert opinion on this matter is divided as well. Whatever the case, by the 1830's deep fried potatoes had become a popular taste sensation in both France and Belgium. It took another hundred years for them to become a fast-food staple in the United States. Although Thomas Jefferson is rumored to have served them in Monticello as early as 1802—a daring thing to do at the time, since tubers were still believed to lead to death unless the poisons were boiled out of them—it was American soldiers, having been stationed in France (or Belgium, depending on who you ask) during World War I who brought back a hunger for the fried potatoes they had eaten while overseas. Although today fries are commonly eaten in many other countries, they are only associated with the Gallic culture here in the U.S. The origin of Chop Suey The orgin of Chop Suey was well documented in the 《新大陆游记》 "Travel to the New Continent" written in 1903 by famous Chinese reformer, professor of literature of Tsing Hua Universty, Liang Qichao, who was also the author of the book "Biography of Li Hongzhang", hence Liang's account is authentic. Liang Qichao toured America in 1903, he wrote that the Choy Suey started when Li Hongzhang visited New York and dined in several Chinese restaurants in NY city. Before that time, no American visited China town in NY, after Li's visit, many Americans enquired about the dish Li ate in China town, the restaurant owner answered with "Chop Suey", which was the cantonese prounciation of "杂碎", meaning "a mixture of pieces". After that, "Li Hongzhang Chop Suey" restaruants sprung up all across America, there were three to four hundred Chop Suey restaurants alone in New York city, and there were three thousand people in America made a living by Chop suey, with business totaling several million dollars, "quite a remarkable industry". Liang noted that this was the single greatest contribution of Li Hongzhang to Cantonese cuisine. Liang also remarked that Chop Suey was really not Chinese cuisine, "no Chinese in America ever went to Chop Suey restaurant". Chop Suey still is the Cantonesee pronunciation of "杂碎", clearly indicates its American Cantonese origin. Chop suey in China The phrase "杂碎" did not exist in China at the end of 19th century when Li Hongzhang viisted New York City, as a matter of fact, this phrase was not even in 1989 edition of Cihai(辞海). Only in the last fifteen years, the phrase 杂碎 appeared in Chinese language, however it means entirely different thing from Chop Suey. |
Re: Is Nagin an idiot ? Or just stupid ?
is Nagin an idiot? uhmmm... does it matter? if people choose to risk thier lives trying go home, thats their problem. Since when did a mayor become the city babysitter? Its not like no one is aware that its a fucked up and risky situation and they are going to be totally blindsided by the fact that a hurricane hit the city.
Funny when the same people constantly crying and whining about the powers that be and Bush, government and its increasing powers and so on - can't wait to bitch that government is not doing all it can to protect them and intervene in their lives and tell them when to jump. I dont need the government to protect me. I dont live in Sweden or Denmark. All i need is information and I can make my own decisions from there... thank you very much! |

http://www.ku.edu/heritage/graphics/.../naismith.html Dr. James Naismith is known world-wide as the inventor of basketball. He was born in 1861 in Ramsay township, near Almonte, Ontario, Canada. The concept of basketball was born from Naismith's school days in the area where he played a simple child's game known as duck-on-a-rock outside his one-room schoolhouse. The game involved attempting to knock a "duck" off the top of a large rock by tossing another rock at it. Naismith went on to attend McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. |
