You've had this kid around for 12 years and still don't know how to translate
what she says into english? It's impossible for a 12 year old to say of any
music mom or dad is listening to "hey, that's cool, who is it?"
The key phrase she said was "who is that?"
When you're 12, if you (very secretly) like whatever your parents are
listening to and want to know who it is, you can't admit that out loud.
You saying something like who "so who's that lame geezer?".
Then when you are sure no one is around you download the song and listen to it.
You fuckers ARE old when you forget how to translate teenageese.

She can date in her 40s. :)
My dad used to make my dates do work for him before we were allowed to even leave the house.

He actually renovated his entire house one summer with slave labor of my boyfriends!!!

I think he had more fun with my dates than I did.

LOL.

Here's a great idea for punishment. Play your music non stop on the drive in the RV on your trip you have planned this summer. My dad also did that to me on our family vactaion from hell when I was 13. But then I upped the stakes and sulked the entire trip and refused to speak to him the whole time.

Actually I think some of them had more fun with him as well.

He is an auto mechanic and would help them fix their cars too.

One boy came to my house one day after we had broken up. I said "What the fuck are you doing here, I do not want to talk to you anymore"

He said "Great, I dont want to talk to you either, I just came here to see your Dad".

"Daddy!!! You are not allowed to talk to this boy anymore!!!"

LOL.

I went road trips of country music hell. To this day country music makes me have motion sickness.

These days I mostly listen to trance, dance, and house.

For oldies I'll do Nina Hagen, The Plasmatics, Grace Jones, Marianne Faithful, never really cared for rock and roll.

Yeah just let me know when you can dance (or fuck) to any song on Sargent Peppers

Try getting an erection with Lucy in the Sky playing in the background, well at least if you're hetero. The only thing that song is good for is illicit drug usage

and therein lies the demise of Rock-n-Roll in the 60's - See Don McClean's "American Pie" for a more detailed version

Only to be resurrected by the Ramones and then a bunch of fun loving hair bands (who no one including themselves took seriously)

Edited to add- yes I realize the Beatles were extremely talented and made huge contributions to the world of music - just none I could enjoy
With the notable exception of being the first band I ever heard use distortion ono purpose (Back in the U.S.S.R.)

Rock and roll is folk music.

Folks play it.

Some folks like it. Others don't. Some like dis and don't like dat.

The reason I seldom read "literature" about rock is because the authors take the subject (and, usually, themselves) way too damned seriously.

I really wan't that impressed with much of anything the Beatles did after Rubber Soul. About the same time of Sgt. Pepper I discovered the Mothers, the Doors, the Dead, Airplane, Zepplin, Fleetwood Mac before they let the girls in, and the blues. Have always been as much a folk fan as a rock fan, so the so-called country rock was a natural for me, and got interested in bluegrass on account of the Dirt Band.

In order to piss off my father all I had to do is grow hair. In a lame (and failed) attempt to piss me off, my oldest daughter and her boyfriend cut off half her hair and dyed the rest of it purple. Tried to freak me out with punk rock, I hit her with Velvet Underground. Tried to get to me with rap, I hit her with The Last Poets.

Like the man said,

Hot funk, cool punk, even if it's old junk
It's the next phase, new wave, dance craze, anyways
Everybody's talkin' 'bout the new sound
Funny, but it's still rock and roll to me.

Oh ... and by the way. At the time of Sgt. Peppers I could fuck to it. I could also fuck to Elvis (before the Army, at least), Frank and Deano, Motown, a dripping faucet, the sound of windshield wipers (vacuum powered, of course), the first Sesame Street album (only once, while she was babysitting her sister), or the sounds of silence - either literal, or the song.

That’s just funny, at least your dad was cool with your boyfriends. :)

The only car help I see Nick giving little Miss Ilynx's boyfriends, ends up with flames and wreckage

I have another funny Dad/Daughter story...

When I was in grade 12 I was visiting my Aunt and their cat had had kittens and they were ready to find homes for them. They were so cute so I called home and said I was bringing one home with me.

Dad said "No way are you bringing that cat home... you probably going to move out at the end of this year and your going to leave that damn cat here and Im going to be stuck with the damn thing".

I said "No, if I move out I will take the cat with me for sure". He said "No way in hell".

I brought the cat home.

He said "Take that damn cat back where it came from"

I said "Hmmmm... now that I think about it... having a baby would be even better... they are even way MORE cute than cats".

The cat stayed.

Then at the end of the year I moved away to the city with my friends.

The cat stayed.

I gave him to my little brother.

A few years later my brother moved away.

The cat stayed.

A few years after that my mom and him divorced and she moved out.

The cat stayed.

It was just him and the cat.

6 months ago at age 15... the cat died.

Dad was absolutely devastated. He LOVED that cat!!!
