It's a total mindfuck, that's why I like it :) Also under the "total mindfuck" category I think you could put 12 Monkeys and Jacob's Ladder. Aw crap, I forgot to put Tim Robbins in my list... and Jeff Goldblum (purrr) Miss Eve I loved her hair!! And her voice - god I wanted to talk like her so much when that movie came out, hehe. And that's the movie where I developed a never-ending lust for James Spader that still thrives to this day :P Has anyone seen "Honey"? I'm really wanting to rent that one. Kinda looks like an ebony version of Flashdance. I love dance movies; one of the first dates Hubby and I went on we went to see Striptease. They didn't show on the commercials just how racy that movie was truly going to be - I thought it would just be a lot of dancing and pretty outfits! I was SOOO embarrassed sitting in the theatre I wanted to leave; I'm thinking "Oh my god I take this guy out to a movie where there's nekkid women practically fucking each other right on the screen, he's probably sitting there thinking I'm some kind of a pervert!!" lolol We could do a "List of Movies You Couldn't Pay Me To Watch" thread... I've got a bunch of those :) Shit add these to my favorites, Colin had to go and mention a Western... Tombstone Quigley Down Under The Magnificent Seven Unforgiven Young Guns The Quick and the Dead (okay the cinematography style was cheesy but it was a good story) |
Vanilla Sky is a great mindfuck movie...
I also would include 12 Angry Man with Fonda, if Vick asked for best 6 and not 5 ;-)))) |

The story sucked BAD but Sam Raimi's unique visual style is the only thing that made it worth watching. |
Joe, what was your beef with Forrest Gump?

But the real question is, what did you like about it? It's shit. Last edited by Joe Sixpack at Apr 30 2004, 04:50 AM |

But the real question is, what did you like about it? It's shit.[/b][/quote] review is very skewed and onesided, total lack of balance or understanding of the movie and what it was all about. as for replying me with question to my question, you are NOT Jewish, please stick to goim's format and just give me a plain answer ;-))) |
What's the difference between a Catholic wife and a Jewish wife?
The Catholic wife tells her husband to buy Viagra. The Jewish wife tells her husband to buy Pfizer. |

Some more pre-80's favorites of mine.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid The original Planet of the Apes. Logan's Run (dated now but still cool). This movie would be great for a re-make. |
Schindler's List
Braveheart Dances with Wolves Forest Gump Saving Private Ryan 6th Sense Gladiator Titanic Quills Memento Last edited by Jesse_DD at Apr 30 2004, 05:37 AM |

Ah yes, Vanilla Sky is one of my top 10 movies on my top 5 list. The problem with questions like this is that I have 20 top 5 movies.
;) I do believe that Schindler's List is the BEST movies every though. surprised no one has this on their list |
Screw all of you - Forest Gump is on my list :) A few more:
Shawshank Redemption An Affair to Remember Gone with the Wind Casablanca Princess Bride Dogma Brother Where Art Thou Both Toy Stories The End of the Affair The Piano A Mighty Wind/Best in Show Oceans Eleven The Others Identity In the Bedroom Minority Report Road to Perdition Barber Shop Far From Heaven (loved the filming of this) Gangs of NY American Splendor Blue, Red, White trilogy Probably even more - I love movies :) |
This is tough.. today's answer is:
The Godfather The Breakfast Club Scarface The Devil's Advocate The Quick & The Dead --------- Most recent movies I've purchased... Wallstreet (Greed is good.. ) Lord Of The Rings #1 Lord Of The Rings #2 --------- Most recent movie rented.... Matrix #3 - hated it. --------- Tuff Turf - hahaha.. I have an original copy on VHS. Rudy (all time favorite)
Shawshank Redemption Dances with Wolves The Gladiator Forest Gump Rounding out the top 10 Secondhand Lions ( excellent storyline) Grumpy Old Men Grease O Brother Where Art Thou Officer and a Gentleman |
These three would be the top three without a doubt
The Shawshank Redemption Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan Mr. Hollands Opus After those three there are a whole myriad of films I could put in there depending on my mood at the time. Raiders of the Lost Ark Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back O' Brother Where Art Thou Star Trek: First Contact Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country Star Wars trilogy LOTR trilogy The Devil's Advocate Heat Se7en Groundhog Day Dogma The Blues Brothers Chicago Blown Away The Patriot Forrest Gump Good Will Hunting Primal Fear Phenomenon The Fugitive |
lots of good movies listed here:
i must have been high when i left shawshank redemption off my favorites list. i'd also like to add to my honorable mentions: the warriors "warriors, come out to play-ay!" groundhog day the hudsucker proxy |
With you on The Wrath of Kahn, TE ...
Forest Gump was a good movie, but probably wouldn't make one of my "top" lists. Saving Private Ryan is in the same category. Others I'd probably list, given the day: Brazil Freaks A Few Good Men The Longest Day |

Sort of surprised how many have listed Shawshank Redemption
It's a great movie but didn't think it would make so many top 5 lists I read the story years ago It's in Different Seasons from Stephen King by the name of "Rita Hayward and the Shawshank Redemption" The movie is pretty true to the novella |

Anyways. hmm. I don't think i could name 5 favourites. The Shawshank Redemption and Good Will Hunting are probably my two favourite movies. Oh, and Amelie. So there's 3. |

I could expand beyoind my initial five as well :)
would add 12 Monkeys Memento A Boy And His Dog A Christmas Story Dogma Evil Dead (unlike most horror movie fans, I prefer the first ED to the sequel) Suspiria (all bow to the directing god that is Dario Argento) Friday The 13th A Nightmare On Elm Street To The Devil A Daughter (Christopher Lee sleepwalks through his role, but a damn good movie overall) The Mummy (my favorite of the Universal classics) Freddy Got Fingered American Splendor RSVP My Bloody Valentine The Eye (if you liked The Ring, check out this badboy) Ringu Audition Darkwater Ju-On (being remade with Sarah Michelle Gellar as "The Grudge") Stir Of Echos (much much better than "The Sixth Sense" which it's unfairly compared to) Frenzy (my favorie Hitchcock film) The African Queen Plan 9 From Outer Space Dead Alive aka Braindead BasketCase Frankenhooker Tormeo And Juliet Eye Of The Needle Raiders of The Lost Ark Russian Ark Crumb I could go on and on :) |
Sykk - How did you leave out "The Maltese Falcon"?
|
I wont repeat what others said,
but Casino and Die Hard I are both classics in very different genres ;) |
Do I see no John Wayne flicks either?
Rooster Cogburn - great interplay between Wayne and Kathrine Hepburn |
I can't believe you guys like Vanilla Sky so much. I think its one of the worst movies Ive ever seen :( Maybe I'm missing something.

Sykk ... please tell me you are talking about the original Mummy, not the one made in the 90s. |
