What's the matter with sociology per se? I despise the "behavioral sciences" because of what I believe are innate theoretical/methodological flaws...but, the discipline "as a whole", is not necessarily flawed beyond the hippie mental masturbation being spewed by holistic fuckwits that consider the sexual behavior of homeless transvestite homosexuals a viable topic for doctoral readings...

there's a key to grad school...especially when it comes to liberal arts/bevavioral sciences (pre-professional programs are obviously expempt)...the lecture hall has little if any relevance to the real world.

I come from a background in philosophy and religious studies...trying to debate that at an academic level with anyone not familiar with the form/structure and jargon of the disciplines is absolutely pointless...people scream about ayn rand and nietzche...pop philosophy - there's no need to waste the energy trying to point out the flaws with colluded egoism and nihilism logically because they don't understand what logic is, as it's defined within the discipline they're commenting on....so if I didn't want to waste the time debating these disciplines...I could be called clueless.

I know the feeling. My emphasis was physical anthro and archaeology, but any time I had to take some cultural anthro courses it was nothing but feminists and hippies.

Soc is much the same way, I essentially have my bs in Marxism. I do not mean that as a pejorative either, its just the field tends to attract the hardcore left. I can think of a few people in my classes I would like to take a screwdriver to.

If I meet someone who is a pilot and was in the AF flying planes for several years, and now is flying commercially or even privately for their own enjoyment, I would expect them to know something about airplanes. Whilst we may not be able to discuss the finer points of said airplanes, I could observe his actions and realize he did, in fact, know about airplanes.

My brother just stopped working on his post-doctorate in genetics at Duke, and I can attest to the fact that except for my Mom, who has a Masters in Midwifery and Nursing, rarely did any of us understand what the heck he was talking about when he explained what he was doing. However, we all recognized he was learning something useful outside the classroom instead of "learning" rote for his professors. :)

Ergo, if someone has studied human behavior, I would expect them to at least at SOME point act as if they actually understand human behavior. I've not seen Labret exhibit such knowledge and I commented on it. :awinky:
