I personally think we would all be better off without handguns at all. I am not trying to take the rifles and shotguns from hunters nor disarm the police. But I don't know anyone that owns a handgun and most people here don't own handguns and the country seems to function pretty well. |

I've seen the police dogs in action a few times and while there will always be someone who can keep calm and handle the dog, most people cannot especially when they're trying to sneak around in the dark. At least from what I've seen. But having a gun for yourself never hurt either. ;) And if you have a yippy poodle it's better than nothing since it'll wake ya up and let you get your gun before it's too late.
Dogs are merely a deterant in most cases. Sure, they can bite the guy, but in most cases the average robber casing a joint knows about the dog(s) and is ready to handle that situation by either killing the animal quickly right off the bat or avoiding them all together by gaining entry somewhere the dog has no access to. Your typical robbers and burglars usually steer clear of a house with watch dogs in favor of ones without them, only because it makes their job easier. But if someone targets your home and is intent on robbing you, they've done their homework and your dog isn't going to stop them, but they can't plan for you having a bullet waiting for them. As for making legislation that makes it harder to attain a firearm, thinking it will keep it out of the hands of the bad guys, I think it could do just the opposite. It could make it harder for the good guys to get protection from the bad guys. Just look at some of the "bad" things they outlawed or tried to regulate throughout history... Booze, drugs, gambling and even porn (not now, but years ago)... all of these things either have been or still are controlled primarily by criminals, and passing legislation to outlaw them only strengthened that resolve. What we need isn't less guns or new legislation... what we need are more responsible citizens with an ounce of common sense. :matey: |
mmmm.. love me some guns :)
Handguns and shotguns turn my crank. My brother in law likes old guns and rifles but that bores me.. I like tactical, modern stuff. I also love the fact that if ANY bad guy enters my home and attempts to cause my family harm I can turn them to paste in a millisecond :cdance: On the other hand.. I can't STAND the NRA. Bunch of spamming (KINGS of junk mail) good ole boys who are no better than their mob mentality. Organized ANYTHING is a bad friggen idea.. when it includes guns it's an ever worse idea. :shooter: :okthumb: |

Our last shep mix was put down just a couple of months ago (my Dad's dog), she was 13 or so. She was a deep caramel color with brindle boxer striping and head shape, chow-chow tongue (spotted) and ears, labrador chest/barrel and shepherd legs and hips. The hips are finally what got her. I'd love to get a big brindle boxer or a lady rottweiler - something very patient, and sturdy enough to handle the boy's most fervent attentions, lol. Until we get a larger place though the most I can hope for is a pug (tank tank tank). I really miss our pug. :) :)
hehe we've got a miniature pinscher... small dog = small turds and less maintenance than a big dog. He is a really spoiled house dog, not for protection but mostly as an alert. I always need a little badass dog around in case of prowlers. He does a great job, almost too good cause sometimes the barking is more than I can take. Actually he does this thing where he will stop barking but lie down and growl for a good five minutes, drives me fucking nuts. But I often remind myself that is why I got the damn dog in the first place... he's like this sick dog child thing, its almost pathetic. :) |

Yo GonZo -- we gotta make sure we stay behind the women in case she wakes up grumpy.... |
All true southern men are raised with guns...
GonZo and I were bullshitting and talking about this just the other day. Think about how different some movies would be if they were shot in the south. Signs -- We wouldn't be hiding in the basement. We'd be figuring out how to fry the critters after we shot 'em. Panic Room -- If she were southern, when Jodie Foster ran into that little Panic Room, you'd wanna get the hell out of Dodge before she came back out because she'd come out strapped like Sigourney Weaver at the end of Aliens. As for myself I was taught to respect guns from the time I was a toddler. And was shooting them from the time I was old enough to safely handle them. My dad was old old school, so I had to learn the hard way. First thing I learned to shoot was a muzzle loader. Had to work my way up to the modern stuff. Thru my teens I went shooting almost every week when the weather was warm, and hunting when the weather was cold. I still like the shooting part. I'm not so much into the hunting. I'd rather go to the butcher or a good steakhouse than sit in a tree freezing my ass off. |

Yo GonZo -- we gotta make sure we stay behind the women in case she wakes up grumpy....
Ya know, all you have to do is let me KNOW you're coming over (preferably from Atlanta so I can at least get the 4 day old dirty dishes hidden and the cobwebs off the chairs) and you'll escape being fired on. :D Ask Wig - I always know when his bigassed truck is going to be coming down the hill (needless to say, if his brakes ever go, I'm toast) and I've never aimed at him. You both grew up in the south and you know your mothers and grandmothers wouldn't like you coming over to a woman's house unannounced. :nyanya: |
Check out the Talon Rifle
Actual Talon Rifle this should make some of you guys happy. thinking about getting one for my friend for xmas if i can get a relative to ship to my area. only the size and price of the toys change....ho hum |
If I ever felt like I needed a gun to protect myself, I'd say it's time to move.
Luckily, in Australia we have virtually no gun violence. I have an axe handle above the front door but I've never had to use it. |

My snail mail has tripled since joining the ACLU and having them sell my address to every liberal cause in the nation. Just since Monday: -National Geographic Society -ACLU "It's time to call the question - time to reclaim the freedoms we lost in a climate of fear and insecurity" -American Friends Service Commitee "...a more dangerous time for peace and justice than even the McCarthy era..." -Americans United "Are you tired of the Religious Right's influence over the Bush Administration?" -Sierra Club Ugh. The really funny ones are the ones with quotes from Clinton on them or some huge red font screaming that "they're trying to take away our RIGHT to abortion". |

I really like guns..
Hubby is an avid Hunter and I am soon to join the ranks of hunting women in my state. We own 6 guns at the present. Have yet to get another hand gun..but I am sure its in the plan down the road. TGF, I can't imaginge you in the military.. :matey: |
An armed society is a polite society. - Thomas Jefferson
You surly wouldn't want to walk up to someone and assault them if you thought you could also be killed in the proccess. Then there is always the signs you can put on your lawn. My favorite one... "This home protected by shotgun four nights a week. You guess which four!" |

That way there will be only one story (yours), and the criminal won't be able to come back and sue you for injuries he received while trying to rob/harm you. |

When I lived in Pennsylvania we had a nice beware of dog sign on our mailbox. It had a picture of an English Mastiff and is said: We can make it to the gate in three seconds. Can You? :awinky: |
when everybody has a gun i think crimes like assault, rape, carjacking, etc. will be relegated to the history books.
criminals are big pussies and they prey on the weak. guns are a great force equalizer. |
